I saw about two movies in the theater this year, maybe three at the most. One of those three was the Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.
When I walked into the movie, I had no idea they had split the movie into three films. I read the book as a kid so it had been a while, but I was obviously thrown off when I realized they weren’t going to wrap in time to finish the story. In my opinion, they could’ve done it all in two movies easily and quite possibly even two.
Nonetheless, the second installment, The Desolation of Smaug is set to be released December 13. The story picks up from the first film as Bilbo Baggins travels with the dwarves as they travel through places like Mirkwood, Esgaroth and Dale to go up in a fierce battle with Smaug the dragon.
Like the in the first film, Bilbo Baggins is played by Martin Freeman. Ian McKellen stars as Gandalf the Grey, who recruits Bilbo to help lead the dwarves through their many adventures.
The three films are directed by Peter Jackson who also directed the Lord of the Rings trilogy movies.
If you have no idea what the movie is about, then perhaps you should read the book, then see the first movie. Otherwise, there’s no need to give any further explanation. Enjoy.
