Grudge Match

December 30th, 2013

Christmas Day was the release date for the movie Grudge Match starring Robert De Niro and Sylvester Stallone. The two play as aged and retired boxers who return for the ring for one last fight. Both actors played in famous boxing roles before as Stallone is probably most know for his work in the Rocky series and De Niro played a boxer in Raging Bull.

In the film, De Nior plays Billy “The Kid” McDonnen and Stallone plays Henry “Razor” Sharp. Despite the fact they’re both old, retired and their rivalry seems like a thing of hte past, it’s still full of history and unsettled issues.

Neither one of the former boxers has any plans of returning to the ring, but when they get in a fist fight, it’s caught on video which goes viral on the internet. That then stirs everyone’s desire to see the two go at it one last time, and they eventually make that turn reluctantly.

According to Rotten Tomatoes, the film has been referred to as average and 65 percent of the audience liked it.

The film, which is directed by Peter Segal, was originally slated to be released Jan. 10, 2014 but was released Christmas. The movie is 113 minutes long and is in theaters now.

A&E takes away Duck Dynasty suspension

December 30th, 2013

Let me first start off by saying I’ve never seen an episode of Duck Dynasty. I’ve maybe seen three minutes of it in passing at my family’s house but it was more like background noise. I have nothing against the show necessarily but when I watch TV, I’m watching something else, usually sports. There’s not a single current TV show that I keep up with.

Furthermore, I have not read the interview by Phil Robertson but I know people were up in arms about whatever he said.

The show is one of the most popular in a long time. You can’t go into Walmart without seeing t-shirts and DVDs on it. It’s so popular that A&E eventually caved and took away the suspension.

A&E needs the show way more than the show needs A&E. The Robertsons were already succesful millionairs before the show was aired.
Seeing as Tyler is mack dab in the middle of the Bible Belt, many local residents tend to be conservative Christians and probably agree with Robertson’s comments. Plus, they’ve had speaking engagements in the Rose Capital, wich makes me think more and more people are excited to know they’ll still be able to watch the show and not have to see without the star of the show.

Walking with Dinosaurs

November 30th, 2013

How would you like to see what the earth was like back in the day of dinaaurs? That’s the exact experience the new movie Walking with Dinaosaurs 3D tries to give.

The film is directed by Barry Cook and Neil Nightingale. It’s written by John Collee and it stars John Leguizamo, Justin Long, Tiya Sircar and more.

The movies page on www.imdb.com says, “For the first time in movie history, audiences will truly see and feel what it was like when dinosaurs ruled the Earth. ‘Walking with Dinosaurs’ is the ultimate immersive experience, utilizing state of the art 3D to put audiences in the middle of a thrilling and epic prehistoric world, where an underdog dino triumphs to become a hero for the ages.”

The film seems like it would be fun for the whole family. It has great special effects and a great story line. I don’t see many movies in the theater any more but even as an adult, I may make an exception for this movie. Heck, by the looks of it, it should put all the other dinosaur movies to shame. It is set to be released into theaters Friday, Dec. 20 and will be available to Tyler theaters.

Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas

November 30th, 2013

There have been some classic Christmas movies over the years but there have also been a ton of stinkers. There are movies that we have made a tradition to watch every year but I don’t have to see Tyler Perry’s A Madea Christmas to know it’s going to suck, real bad. Heck, I don’t even have to watch the trailer. Pretty much any movie starring Perry is a must-not see.

Madea allows herself to get talked into helping her friend surprise her daughter by visiting her over the weekend for Christmas. The town they visit is a small rural town which is preparing for its annual Christmas Carnival and new secrets are brought to the surface as old relationships are test. Madea gives everyone a taster of her own idea of Christmas spirit.

Larry the Cable Guy also makes an appearance in the film, but that doesn’t matter. There’s nobody that can savage the movie and make it worth watching.

So as the holidays approach and you get the family together to watch holiday classics, don’t give Tyler Perry a second thought. It’s not worth it. You’ll regret it for your whole life. The movie is set to be released Friday, Dec. 13, just FYI, so you know when not to watch.
