The Lego Movie

February 1st, 2014

Many of us played with Legos as kids and many of us have passed down that tradition to our kids. Many hours that we and/or our kids have spent playing with Legos, we have created different story lines in our heads that may or may not have been too different from the story that’s hitting the big screen.

Next week, Friday, Feb. 7 the Lego movie will be released into theaters nation wide and it has an all-star cast. Will Arnett plays the voice of Batman, Elizabeth Banks plays Wyldstyle, Craig Berry plays Blake, Alison Brie plays Unikitty. Anthony Daniels, the voice of C-3PO in Star Wars also does the famous gold droid’s voice in this movie.

Charlie Day does the voice of Han Solo, Will Forte does the voice of Abraham Lincoln. Dave Franco voices Wally. Will Ferrell does the voice of the Lord Business and others. Jonah Hill’s voice is the voice of the Green Lantern.

This list doesn’t stop there. Liam Neeson plays a cop. Shaquille O’Neal plays himself. Billy Dee Williams plays Lando and Melissa Sturm plays Gail / Ma Cop.

With all the big names and random characters, this movie is almost guaranteed to be entertaining for the whole family.

Son of God

January 31st, 2014

Feb. 28 is the release date of the film, “Son of God.” This was part of the History Channel’s mini-series, “The Bible” which aired in 2013, and has been cut down and edited into a three-hour edition for the big screen. Those who watch it in the theaters will also see footage that wasn’t originally aired in the miniseries.

The movie is about the entire life of Jesus Christ, how he was born of virgin Mary and includes His ministry as well as His death and resurrection

Diogo Margado plays the part of Jesus. Mother Mary is played by Roma Downey, Mary Magdalen is played by Ambe Rose Revah and Peter is played by Darwin Shaw.

It portrays many of Jesus’ teachings and miracles, including him raising his friend Lazarus. It also includes stories like the time when Jesus multiplied fish and bread to feed crowds of 5,000 people.

The hope is that the movie will serve as more than just a movie but a ministry to help reach more lives for Christ.

The film is rated PG-13 for the intense violence depicted in during the crucifixion. It is the first film about the life of Christ to be released into the theater since, “The Passion of the Christ” was released in 2004.

Super Bowl Grub

January 31st, 2014

The time around Super Bowl Sunday is kind of a bitter sweet feeling. Like everybody else, I obviously love the game and seeing who finishes the year on top of the world. On the other hand however, it’s kind of a sad deal because it means football season is coming to an end.

However, there are many ways to squeeze out ever last bit of enjoyment as we possibly can out of the Super Bowl, and as always, there are places all throughout Tyler that make this easier.

I’m a strong believer that the best Super Bowl Party is with a small group of friends who want to watch the game and not necessarily the commercials, and of course a lot of food.

It’s a scientific fact that you can’t go wrong with wings, so why not stop by Wing Stop or other places in Tyler, or go pick up some from Brookshires or one of the many other grocery stores.

If you go the wings route, you can stop by Buffalo Wild Wings because you know they’ll be hosting a great Super Party there. If you prefer the comfort of your own home though, that’s more than understandable.

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest pizza selling day of the year and there are no shortages of pizza locations. Maybe you want to consider Pappa Johns, after all, one of its spokesman will be lining up under center in the Super Bowl.

Keep Johnny Football in Texas

January 27th, 2014

Apparently there are a lot Johnny Manziel fans who want the Houston Texas to draft the young quarterback. Manziel was born in Tyler but grew up in Kerville and attended Texas A&M.

Now the Texans have the first overall and the quarterback position is one of their biggest needs. The fact that they lost 14 straight to finish the season with a record of 2-14 is evidence that they have more needs than just quarterback, but the signal caller is a good place to start, and many fans are hopeful the team will get that start with the former Aggie and Heisman Trophy winner.

Some fans are so hopefull in fact, that they started a website (www.draftjohnnymanziel.com) and made a billboard advertising that website.

The Texans will start from scratch next season. They have a new head coach in Bill O’Brien who was most recently head coach at Penn State University where he replaced Joe Paterno. Before that he was an assistant coach for Bill Belichick.

Who knows? It’s not impossible that O’Brien will draft Manziel and there would be a mixture of reaction if that were to happen. However, don’t expect it to be the case. Regardless of where he ends up, it’ll be interesting to see how his career unfolds.

The Legend of Hercules

December 31st, 2013

When I was looking at a list of what movies are coming out in January of 2014, I saw “The Legend of Hercules” listed and thought it was a children’s animated series. Before I watched the trailer, I wasn’t expecting an action packed movie which looks similar to Gladiator.

The film is an Amercian action film and was directed by Renny Harlin and co-written by Daniel Giat, Sean Hood and Giulio Steve. Starring in the film are Kellan Lutz as Hercules, Gaia Weiss as Hebe, Scott Adkins as King Amphitryon, Roxanne McKee as Queen Alcmene, Liam Garrigan as Iphicles, Liam McIntyre as Sotiris, Jonathon Schaech as Tarak and many others.

It’s based on the original story of Hercules who was betrayed by the King, his stepfather and sold into slavery because of forbidden love. Hercules then uses his strength and powers to fight his way back to his rightful kingdom and become a Greek hero. Through many endless battles and death matches in a gladiator-arena, he embarks on an epic tale and a legendary adventures to overthrow his stepdad as king to restore the peace among his people.

The movie is scheduled to be released into theaters nation-wide Friday, Jan. 1o.
