The movie has mixed reviews. With the all star cast and several likeable characters, some people seem to think the movie is too cluttered while others like the cast and say the characters have good chemistry and are able to feed off each other well. Perhaps the only way to come to a conclusion is to see the movie.

Ted Cruz for President

April 30th, 2015

Ted Cruz has East Texans excited after his recent announcement. While speaking to a crowd at Liberty University, the world’s largest Christian University, the junior senator from Texas made it public that he’s going to run for President of the United States.

Cruz was the first to throw his name in the hat as a candidate for the 45th President and nearly 40 percent of Republicans said they would consider voting for the Texas senator for the GOP presidential nomination.

Former governor of Florida, Jeb Bush is expected to join Cruz as a candidate for the position. He has strong support from Tea Party which could go a long way in making him our next Commander-in-chief. His Christian faith and conservative convictions make him a favorite among East Texans and the fact he attended Princeton and Harvard Law School is evidence of his intelligence as well as a legal background. Not to mention, his Hispanic background will likely help him earn votes from the Hispanic communities.

In his speech to the crowd at Liberty, he spoke of his vision of securing the borders and doing away with the IRS. Some may argue Cruz threw his hat in the ring too early but one thing is for sure; we’ll be hearing his name a lot and he definitely gives Republicans and East Texans a solid option for Obama’s replacement.

Pump Jacks coming to Tyler

April 28th, 2015

Minor League baseball is returning to the Tyler as the East Texas Pump Jacks move from Kilgore to the Rose City. The Pump Jacks will play their Ehome games at Irwin Field on the Campus of UT Tyler.

Although the team has only made an agreement to playing in Tyler for the 2015 season, the Pump Jacks’ general manager Mike Lieberman said he hopes it’s a more permanent move.

“This is an exciting announcement for the Pump Jacks,” Lieberman said. “We’re looking forward to calling Tyler home for years to come.”

In their seven seasons of playing at Driller Park in Kilgore, the team won more than 200 games and won the Texas Collegiate League Championship in 2012, never failing to make the playoffs.

The Pump Jacks first game of the regular season is slated for May 28 when they travel to McKinney to take on the Marshals. Their first home game is slated for Thursday, June 4, when they play host to the Acadiana Can Cutters.

The Pump Jacks recently named Ernie May as the team’s new skipper. He comes to the Rose Capital with over 20 years of college coaching experience.

Abortion Clinic Seeks Spa Like Experience

March 31st, 2015

Am I allowed to dislike anyone? I mean anyone. Because well… I‘m confused. Sometimes it seems like its ok to dislike some people and not others. For instance, it’s ok to dislike Rush Limbaugh because some people feel like he says hurtful things. And I guess its ok to disagree with offensive speech. But I want to dislike some people because of some of the things they actually do. I mean saying things is not really a crime. We can say all sorts of crazy things right? But what if someone does something I find offensive? Can I think less of them? I’m not talking about restricting their actions, I’m just talking about merely disliking them. Because here’s the thing, it seems like I can’t.

I read an article in the Washington Post about a company called “Carafem,” whose goal it is to remove the stigma of having an abortion, by making their clinic more like a health spa experience. The company is pushing for a total acceptance of the procedure through open story telling by those who have experienced the process. The article likens the tactic to those used by the gay-rights movement. But wait a minute… isn’t abortion already legal? Weren’t we told decades ago that it had to remain “safe and legal?” And it has in fact remained legal, and it’s somewhat safe I guess… At least for half of those going in for the appointment.

But as it turns out safe and legal aren’t enough. My tacit consent to the law, by not harassing clinic patrons, or not standing out on street corners or generally not making a menace of myself, is not enough anymore. It turns out the abortion rights crowd really needs my love and support too. Well sorry but I reserve the right to my opinions. I oppose abortion. And I oppose it, not so much on the admittedly clique arguments about when life begins or when a baby is viable… whatever, science is quickly rendering those arguments moot anyway. I’m against abortion because it’s demonstrably cruel and inhumane, and no amount of shampoo, mani-pedis and soft slippers is going to make me feel better about the procedure, or those that profit by it. So su… uh, take that Carafem! I can’t legally stop you from doing what you’re doing, but you’ll never make me approve of it!

Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

March 30th, 2015

Several years ago, I went with several friends and family members to the boardwalk on Shreveport, and a security guard rolled up in a scooter and told me to turn my hat around to where the bill was on the front. I was wearing it backwards and thinking he was joking, I “politely” laughed and kept it the way it was. Then he insisted and told me it was a policy of theirs. I was dumbfounded. The point of me mentioning this is it reminded me of Kevin James in “Mall Cop.” The point of me mentioning that is because there’s apparently a sequel coming out.

Kevin James returns as Paul Blart, the mall cop as he heads to Las Vegas with his daughter before she starts college. It’s there that he must use his set of skills he learned on that job when his vacation turns sour.

This sequel is the second installment to original 2009 film and it costars others such as Raini Rodriguez, Eduardo Verastegui, Daniella Alonso, Neal McDonough and several others.

The film was directed by Andy Fickman and produced by Adam Sandler, James and Todd Garner and written by James and Nick Bakay. The running time is 94 minutes and is slated to hit theaters April 17.
