In the museum there is a short film you can sit down and watch about the history of the Brookshires grocery store and more. Roland, an employee of the Brookshires Museum, told us a lot of the history of the stores. Brookshires started back during the depression with one small store 25 feet by 100 feet by Wood and Louise Brookshire.
If you walk near the restrooms you will find a framed letter of an interview with Wood Brookshire written by Jim Powell. There you can read how the couple moved to Tyler in 1928 and started the grocery store in the midst of the depression. The museum has an old timey store which will make you feel like you went back in time. There’s some fake old candy, food and gifts that resemble what would have been in an old timey grocery store like the Brookshires grocery store back in the day.
