Youth With A Mission Ministry

January 8th, 2010

If you’ve ever wondered what there is to get involved with to make your faith based in something big, here is an answer. YWAM is a Christian organization that focuses on discipling people to be able to profess who they are in Christ in their every day actions and attitudes as a testimony to the true changes of Christ.

There are over 166 bases like this one all over the world, this is one of MANY. This base is located in Lindale just off of HWY 16. It is split among two locations. One in Lindale and one more directly in Tyler Texas. There are about 400 people working with this ministry currently and many many students.

There are many opportunities to get involved with this ministry, they organize several functions you can be a part of if you would like. Take Action is an event for Youth that takes place every year, the production is done here, then travels to Houston and Chicago. This is a whole day event that focuses on bringing real issues to light in a teens life and offers support and discipleship to begin a new work in their lives. It’s a production of music, dancing, acting and media. Such a sight to see and is well worth the investment to go to or send your kids to.

The location in Lindale also dedicates part of its time to facilitating Dwell nights. A Dwell night is a night were people gather, from YWAM and friends in town, to dwell/soak in the presence of God. The gym is cleared of chairs and tables, rugs and pillows laid about, lights dimmed and stations placed around the edges of the room that highlight prayer needs or art inspiration. There is a time of worship together and waiting on the Lord, sometimes there are speakers but its mostly worship.

These times have proven to be so rich and full of Jesus. A time of being ministered to and ministering to others. Anyone is welcome to come, they usually happen about once a month. The YWAM web page will have dates of these particular events.

Something else you might be interested in getting involved with are SST’s. These are camps held in the summer for teens. Hard core spiritual time with God, adventure challenges and outreach to Mexico (depending on which week you go, other options are available). Its basically three weeks of awesomeness. If you are looking for an intense and real Christian experience near Tyler, TX this summer then this is what you need to look into.

SST stands for Summer of Service and Training. Hundreds flow in every summer and hundreds flow out and most of them leave with a flame still burning with the desire to know God more and to make him know. There are stories after stories of teens leaving and coming back, going into missions, transforming their schools and transforming their families. This is something real! Anyone is welcome to apply and come… you are invited!

Any of these events listed are listed on the YWAM Tyler website with tons more information and videos to watch and testimonies to read. Please go check it out.

School Of The Bible YWAM Tyler Texas

January 8th, 2010

School of the Bible is a one year course that is available for you through YWAM. YWAM stands for the Ministry of Youth with a Mission and is located in Tyler, Texas near the airport. The course will go in depth into studying the Bible and learning Greek so you can better understand what the Bible is saying. You will learn about apologetics and thermanectics.

I know these are new words for some, but the school teaches you about all these things and more. It gives you a new perspective on how to read and better understand and apply the Bible to your everyday life. The Bible course is accredited through Eclesia which is located in Arkansas. You will earn 35 credits when you are finished with the course.

Basically it is like going to any college that you choose, only here you get to skip the two years that you have to take Math, English, etc and allows you to get straight to the point of studying the exact thing you want without wasting any time having to take courses that you are not interested in.

I am not saying in any way that there is anything wrong with going through a regular college and taking all the extra classes if that is what you are required to get your degree. I am just merely stating that if you are looking to get closer to God and better understand how to read and understand what the Bible has to say to you personally or about history, the world or any other area of your life than YWAM may your fit.

I took the course and I loved it, because I just wanted to get to know God better and be able to enjoy reading the Bible coming from a right perspective. The staff is excellent and fun, and loving and always ready to help in any area that you may need.

If you choose to go ahead and do the school your tuition will include room and board and yes three meals per day. And if all that is not enough to convince you to join, you get to meet lots of new people just like you who are there to learn about God or work towards getting a degree.

While making friends you are also getting to study and learn more about God’s nature and God’s character. For some it is also a break from real life. Not that this is not considered real life.

To me, doing something like this is like taking a vacation because I will be learning about things that I am passionate about, so it makes it way easier to get up every morning and face the day. So the next time you are wondering what is the next step for you in life, you should consider School of the Bible at the Tyler Texas YWAM base on Christian Heritage campus…it may be exactly what you are looking for.

Caring Help For Those In Crisis

January 8th, 2010

Living Alternatives is an area ministry which comes under the auspices of Youth With A Mission. Living Alternatives was founded in 1982 by Beverly Kline, as a ministry to young women experiencing an unplanned pregnancy. The ministry is of course a prolife institution whose aim is to provide happy, humane alternatives to abortion. Initially it offered merely a free pregnancy test and some one on one counseling. As the ministry and staff grew, other related needs revealed themselves. Today there are essentially four component parts which make up the Living Alternatives ministry.

The Pregnancy Resource Center

Located across from T.J.C. the Resource Center offers free pregnancy tests, sonograms, and counseling to expectant young mothers. The dedicated volunteer staff can also offer referrals for numerous sexual health concerns. The office is full of literature which helps give direction to those who find themselves in crisis.

Fatherheart

Frequently, when a young woman finds that she is un-expectantly pregnant she also finds that for whatever reason, she is without a place to live during her pregnancy. Fatherheart is a home for unwed mothers, who have made the decision to carry their children to term, but are in the process of deciding whether to raise their children alone, or place them for adoption. Located in Garden Valley Texas, the facility has twelve bedrooms, seven bathrooms, and a live in staff. The Tyler Texas Ministry offers counseling and morning devotions, as well as educational opportunities for girls who have yet to finish high school.

Loving Alternatives

Founded in 1987 the Loving Alternatives adoption agency provides counseling to both the mother considering the option, as well as the adoptive parents and their family. It is located at 430 S. Vine in Tyler, well away from the associated mother’s home. Wisely, the separation allows the expectant mothers to make their own decisions in regards to the placing of their children. Loving Alternatives is state licensed and places children in Christian homes.

Building Blocks

Building Blocks offers assistance to young single mothers who desire a new start in life. Counseling is available to help with parenting, and forming healthy new relationships. Tangible help with diapers, clothes and even basic foods is also available.

After nearly thirty years of service to the community, Living Alternatives continues to grow and assist the Tyler area. For services call (903) 882-0182 or 1-800-447-2891.

New Covenant Church

August 31st, 2009

For those who are new to Tyler and are in the process of searching out a new Church that leans toward the charismatic non- denominational side, New Covenant Church of Tyler is an excellent option. Pastor Sam Fisher and his wife Yvette have led the church since its founding nearly ten years ago.

The church is a Bible based church, which places a strong emphasis on both worship and teaching. Since N.C.C. is a more charismatic church, worship definitely takes center stage. The environment is free and open to individual expressions of praise, but not (as the church’s literature states) fanatical. Each congregant is careful not to distract those around them from their private prayers.

New Covenant has a very strong missions focus. The congregation is a really strong group of wonderful people who place a premium on both global and community outreach.  N.C.C.’s motto is “preaching the good news of Christ, around the world or across the street,” and this church is doing both. The global side of that creed has taken parishioners to Central America, the Holy Land and Eastern Europe. The church also partners with missions groups like Youth With A Mission by supporting staff members financially, and encouraging church members to attend outreaches and ministry events held by the mission. On the local side, N.C.C. partners with Zoe Prison Ministries, supports KVNE Christian radio and participates in the he annual “Arts With A Mission” camps which take place on campus at the Y.W.A.M. center in Lindale. The church also holds the “Mega Sports Camps” as an outreach to area children.

But the church does more than just reach out, it also ministers within. There are Sunday school classes for just about every age ranging from children’s church, to Jr. High and High school students. There is an active youth program consisting of teens and high schoolers, as well as a college and career classes for young adults seeking a place to connect with others at the same stage of life. Lastly there are home groups were families can meet to study the scriptures and share experiences.

Tyler has just about every conceivable shade and flavor of church, but for those looking for a new one, New Covenant Church has a lot to offer. If you prefer a family oriented church with a lot of activities for the average person, consider this one. With plenty of places to plug in and areas to become involved you’ll never be bored unless you want to be. For those wanting more information N.C.C. has a great website. Just go to www.ncctyler.org or call (903)534-9555.
