Find or Refer a Contractor in Tyler

The Shed At Edom

January 12th, 2010

There is a restaurant in Edom TX about 18 minutes outside of Tyler called The Shed. It is a small town place with a flavor of mama’s kitchen. They have a varied menu that includes things like…roast beef, meatloaf, chicken fried steak and chicken tenders. The servings are large with a modest price on the pocketbook. They have some of the yummiest pies and cobblers if you want dessert. You won’t go away hungry if you decide to eat there. The waiters and waitresses are very attentive to what your needs are while you are eating.

The interesting thing is if you visit them on Tuesday evening they have a dozen or so musicians that play and sing country music and bluegrass. The musicians play guitars, fiddles, mandolin’s, and accordions while you eat your meal and you are welcome to sing with them or just listen. This is a place that you can take young children to and they will enjoy the entertainment and the food.

During the summer they occasionally have a car show in Edom and when we ate there we were lucky to be there while the car show was going on. After eating we walked around and looked at the cars, and walked off some of our eating.

After eating at The Shed you can walk through the hallway to their country store. There at the country store you can buy something for yourself or purchase a nice gift for someone. This is not a fancy place, but a very comfortable place to eat, enjoy music without hurting the pocket book.

Joes Italian Grill

January 8th, 2010

Tyler has so many options for a great Italian dine in experience. One of my favorite places to eat is a little Italian Restaurant known as Joe’s Italian Grill. Joe’s is a quant little restaurant with walls stained with the smell of garlic and pesto that brings a true Italian culture to East Texas. Joe’s great pasta masterpieces cooked with his rich signature sauce will leave your stomachs and your wallets full. Joe has a great variety that is not found anywhere else.

Joe’s Italian Grill offers a quiet, romantic atmosphere and each of the tables has individual curtains to maintain the privacy of your dinner party. It is a great place to have a great date and a delightful peaceful meal. Not only is the food great but the prices are unbeatable. Lunch menus start at $6. And the rest of the menu is prices between six to fourteen dollars. Have a glass of wine of your choice with your meal.

Not sure what will go with your meal? Just ask your waiter and they will give you their suggestions. They have all different wines, both white and red. If you just want to enjoy a drink feel welcomed at their small bar. At this locally family owned restaurant the waiters and waitresses are very attentive and professional, expect great service. The small italian restaurant on a small shopping center, is a great place to enjoy the Italian culture here in Tyler. So come on in and let your taste buds travel around the world.

The Egg and I

January 4th, 2010

Egg and I breakfast in Tyler TX
I walked into the Egg and I Tyler TX Restaurant and was very impressed. The small restaurant only serves breakfast, brunch and lunch. The restaurant is scented with sweet smell hazelnut coffee and maple syrup. The waitresses greeted you with a friendly “hello” and they were extremely helpful when ordering.

We looked over the menu and we pleasantly surprised with the prices, and the wonderful selection of breakfast and lunch entrees. I looked through the large omelet selection. The menu had every type of omelet that you could imagine. Mushrooms, cheddar or Swiss cheese, beef ham or bacon, they all sounded so great. I ordered a cordon blue casserole. I was amazed in the great flavoring of the potatoes, chicken and ham mixed together toped with Swiss cheese and cheese sauce and finally topped off with their famous egg cooked to my liking.

If you are not an egg lover don’t fret, egg items are not the only things on the menu. If you are a sweet tooth and want something to ease that chocolate craving, you are in luck! Order the filling and truly homemade tasting chocolate chip pancake. Dig into the thick fluffy chocolate chip stuffed pancake topped off with chocolate sauce and served with maple syrup on the side.

Choose from their delicious coffees, or choose a juice or fountain drink.

The service was amazing. The waitresses and waiters were polite and were constanly refilling drinks and asking if there was anything else that we wanted. After we ordered our food, it took lease than ten minutes for our food to come out to our table.

They have another room that you can reserve for a party or meeting. It is very private and closed off from the rest off the restaurant. So call and reserve the private room today.

Enjoy great company, a quiet atmosphere, and great food at a wonderful price. Come to the Egg & I for a meeting, party or date.

Chili’s in Tyler Texas

November 5th, 2009

One of the many restaurant chains that stretches through the U.S. and reaches into our little city is the Chili’s restaurant. No one forgets the “Baby back ribs”; but I am not sure if it is because of the taste or because of the obnoxious little song that stays in your head for months at a time.

You can always find any food that you are craving on the long listed Chili’s menu. You will always be able to find great barbecue, ribs, steak, and chicken. Try one of their great barbecue sauces. Great pasta, Mexican, or burger, have your favorite food here.

But Chili’s is much more to me than the prices, decent foods, or annoying songs. My most fond memories happened at this restaurant. When I walk into the restaurant, memories flood my mind of my first date, or when we ate there right after my husband proposed. My family ate there right before my brother was sent over seas with the military. I was even eating at Chili’s when I went into labor with my oldest child. I used to go to Chili’s every week to hang out with a big group of friends. Most of my most happy and fond memories have something to do with Chili’s.

I have had the best service here, but also I have had the worst service, and not to mention the most odd. It seems like when I am in a smaller group for some reason the service is so much worse than if I am with a bunch of people. One time I went to Chili’s for my dad’s birthday with just a few people. There was probably five of us that day. I remember the restaurant was not very crowded and there seemed to be a lot of people working, you would think that the service would be really great. But of course, we are blessed with the most obnoxious person as a waiter in the city of Tyler. When I told him that we were the celebrating my dad’s birthday, he laughed and walked away shaking his head. I just wanted to embarrass my dad and have to annoying waiters and waitresses yell their own version of “Happy Birthday” through the whole restaurant out of key. I don’t really understand why he wouldn’t believe me or why he made it such a big deal.

If this was the only strange issue I would not have any issues. I would have been happy with the service if my food was how I ordered it or if it came out with in the forty five minutes of ordering. I probably would not be writing about this situation if this was the only time Chili’s slow services disappointed me. But sadly this has happened a few times and I have left upset, but it was nothing compared to the times I have left confused by the extremely strange waiters that I have had.

One time I was eating dinner their with my husband and we had the weirdest person that I have ever met as our waiter. He would repeat our orders so loud you could hear him throughout the restaurant and all through out the parking lot. He would try to make us laugh with corny jokes. He did come to our table a lot but I really did not want him to. That was extremely frustrating and did I mention annoying?

Though I have had very different experiences each time I go there I do really like Chili’s for the food and the prices. You can relax and have a drink in the bar and watch the game. You can not find prices like these anywhere else. So come on by Chili’s and be sure to have an experience, even though it might not be the greatest experience.

Sonic: Tyler’s Drive-In, Too

October 1st, 2009

Like a John Wayne western, Sonic Drive In restaurants somehow manage to make us feel nostalgic for things we never actually experienced. Granted, many people do remember the 1950’s, where car-hopping waitresses wore roller skates and Franky Avalon crashed every beach party. But for the generation that thinks a “Drive In” is only a place where teenagers make out and tornadoes strike, Sonic reintroduces the good-old days in tantalizing Technicolor.

Tyler Sonics have four locations. As the name implies, they won’t have lobbies. You will drive into a spot, roll down your window read the big colorful menu, and give your order over the intercom. You can pay by credit card at that time, or wait for the “car-hop.” In a few minutes, she will walk out with your food (sorry, but rollerskates are rare nowadays), offer condiments from an impressive cargo belt, and take your money, leaving you to eat inside your car and have semi-witty conversations for 30 seconds.

“So,” you might ask, “if there is no lobby, why would I go? Why would I pay to sit in a parking lot and eat in my car?” There is a simple answer: the food is flat-out impressive, and the drinks are unbelievable. How else could Sonic become America’s Drive-In restaurant?

Sonic’s burgers are hot and delicious. They are light years ahead of Big Macs an barely shy of Whataburgers. Their fries are equally tasty, as are their chicken sandwiches. But these items are just Sonic’s obligatory staple foods. Most people come to Sonic because of all the unique things they offer, like Coney and Tots. Officially, that’s a hot dog and small potatoes. Sonic offers these without a shred of embarrassment, again claiming Nostalgic Rights. Who doesn’t have great memories of eating hot dogs on a Saturday afternoon? And I can promise you that Sonics are better than your memories.

Keep moving down the menu and you’ll find the glorious Toaster fleet. That’s a big burger, club, or breakfast sandwich between two golden pieces of Texas Toast. And speaking of Toast, you can get breakfast food all day, which is always appealing to people like me. The sides are fantastic, too, with onion rings, mozzarella sticks, chili cheese tots, and my favorite: jalapeno poppers.

But it’s Sonics specialty drinks that will keep you coming back. Don’t settle for a Coke or a Sprite. You can get those anywhere. Go for something big, like a Signature Limeade. Cherry, strawberry, lime, apple, cranberry… so many choices. Can’t pick one? Pick them all. Sonic’s Limeades are legendary because they actually put fruit into the drink. My favorite is the STRAWBERRY LIMEADE, a drink whose name demands capitalization. There aren’t just bits of strawberry mixed in, there are chunks, so that after you finish the drink itself, you’ll have a healthy desert mixed right in with your ice. It’s a beautiful thing.

All of Sonic’s drinks are fully customizable. There are thousands of possible combinations that have never even been though of before. Be creative. And do the same when desert time comes. Sonic’s Frozen Favorites menu is as unique and appealing as the drinks menu. I recommend going beyond the obvious sundaes and milk shakes and opt for a Sonic Blast, a Cream Slush Treat, or a Java Chiller. You can’t go wrong. Just don’t skip it.

I seriously doubt that the 1950’s ever tasted this good, but when you are holding a Toaster Sandwich and a Mocha Chip Java Chiller, it really doesn’t matter. If you really want to feel like a 50’s beach party-goer, head over to Sonic on 64 & the NW Loop or on South Broadway Tyler Texas. There are outdoor tables, a fine playground for the kids and a beach volleyball court for you. But if you go there, I can’t guarantee Franky Avalon won’t show up to mooch a Mozzarella stick or two. You’ve been warned.
