The arsonists were arrested late last night and this morning in San Antonio and Grand Saline. KLTV will be covering it live at 4:00 pm today. According to Crowley with the ATF, he said, “various techniques led members of a special task force to the men, including DNA evidence and phone tips.”

My questions revolve around if they turned out to be young highschoolers that are either satanists or think they are vampires. One news station said their last names are Jason Borque and Daniel Mcalister. Jason was a student at UT Tyler. Jason Borque Church Arsonist MugshotIf you know these guys feel free to comment below and fill us in. Is he a twilight fan, does he regularly where black trench coats, and other typical ridiculousness.

The ATF has reported that the other arsonists last name is Borque and was arrested in Northern Smith County. They said the sketches are unrelated to the men that were arrested. The sketches were men of interest at the time that could have some kind of link.

These are considered 1st degree felonies and could also be considered aggravated robberies. The ATF said that among some of the evidence they have is DNA evidence.

They may ask the judge to stack sentences. There is only one arrest warrant at this time which is the Dover Baptist Church warrant. They are confident that they will be arrested on other fires. They don’t believe the fire in Temple is related to the East Texas church fires.

According to NBC news one is from Lindale and the other guy is from Van Texas but after more news it appears more like Ben Wheeler Texas. So these guys were right in my backyard the whole time. I kind of suspected they might be from here considering how they were spreading the fires out around this location. They couldn’t resist to go after a couple of the churches in their own towns. If they were trying to throw police off I think it served more as an easy to find trail to their hideout.

It has to be said by someone – Chick-Fil-A is the best place to eat fast food in Tyler.

Here are four reasons:
Rapid efficient service
Customer care
Delicious child-friendly food and drinks
Good value

On a recent trip to Tyler with 3 children and a baby we went to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. I was not a reluctant customer having tasted their peanut oil-fried chicken on several occasions before. It is good! My children were ecstatic – they love the food too and enjoy the indoor play area.

It was busy but all the registers were open and my order was taken rapidly and with a smile. As the kids had already left to play I had 2 trays of food to carry but immediately someone came to my side and helped me to the table with the food. She brought me a highchair and plastic table mat and some iced water. I was impressed! Later she came back with mints for the children and offered to refill our beverages.

The place was spotless, the pride they take in their establishment is plain to see.

We started eating – Mmm-Mmm! How nice NOT to have salty fries for the kids but waffle potatoes (real potatoes that is!) and proper chicken breast that hasn’t been reconstituted from some mystery meat. I enjoyed the honey mustard dressing on my Southern salad – it was really good. Without the plastic packaging, that sort of salad could be served at an upscale restaurant for double the price. It even had honey roasted sunflower seeds and croutons on top. The kid’s meals were superb too. They could choose milk or apple juice as an alternative to soda and had the option of a fruit cup instead of waffle fries. And the chicken nuggets were so delicious – we had to go back and order another little box of them.

I was also impressed with the toys that come with the kid’s meals. On this visit, they had Bernstein bear books – yes, real books! The time before, it was science kits complete with ideas for home experiments. No plastic chuck-away Disney trash here, you actually want to keep the freebie.

Whilst we were eating a bell rang and everyone applauded. At Chick-Fil-A the 100th customer of the day eats free. What a fun company policy. I hope one day it’s me.

On our way out I stopped to buy a take-out milkshake. They looked so good and we felt we just had to try one. It was a bit sweet for me but the children loved it.

Chick-Fil-A is a great business. I hope they will soon open one near where we live in Lindale so we can enjoy it more often!

University of Texas at Tyler

December 24th, 2009

Just off the Southeast corner of Loop 323 in Tyler, tucked away in a wooded area is the beautiful, peaceful campus of the University of Texas at Tyler. I used to work at TJC and UT Tyler, and I always noticed the difference just passing through the entrance to UT Tyler. I could almost smell the sense of academic purposefulness that hung in the air. Everyone was going somewhere, moving forward, studying intently. The vast majority of students I came into contact with seemed to be serious about getting their education and succeeding in their chosen field. Maybe this has something to do with UT’s starting point as a higher education center serving Juniors, Seniors, and Masters students. In 1997 they expanded to include general courses for Freshmen and Sophomore students. Perhaps the mature student body in UT’s early beginnings helped draw successive students who were also striving for academic excellence.

UT’s small class sizes are a huge plus. Even though UT is continuing to expand its programs and grow its student body (about 6,000), they still maintain a 1:16 staff to student ratio, which gives UT a private-school feel at a public school price.

UT boasts four professional colleges and one traditional college of arts and sciences that together offer over 90 academic degrees. They are accredited to award bachelors, master’s and doctoral degrees. Many courses are also offered on-line. UT Tyler makes its courses available to students living near its two remote campuses in Palestine and Longview. On-site professors, ITV (Interactive Television), and internet courses make getting a degree much more cost effective and convenient for students in those areas.[ad#large-blog-block]

Among the professors and courses I experienced (education, psychology, business, biology, literature, counseling), across the board, every one displayed a high level of professionalism and enthusiasm for their area of expertise, but no tolerance for anything they viewed as academic laziness. So UT is not the place to come if you are hoping to just squeak through to get a degree. The sense I got from UT’s professors is that they have a willingness to answer questions and an open door policy, but you had better keep up.

Up until a few years ago, UT didn’t provide much of a place for student life or extracurricular programs, which maybe helped their academic atmosphere, but was probably hurting their growth. The expansion of their NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletic program in the past five years has drawn more students and stirred up a sense of school spirit within their student body as well as within the community.

The new Herrington Patriot Center, the largest building on campus, at 127,312 square ft, serves a dual purpose as an athletic and academic building. The HPC is the university’s answer to the lack of student life activities, providing fitness classes, recreation and therapy pool, backetball/vollyball courts, and a student lounge. Student life seems to be getting more attention at UT.

Many Tylerites have attended one or more musical or stage performances at UT’s Cowan Fine and Performing Arts Center, a classy cultural center for the fine arts in Tyler. The Cowan Center also frequently hosts well-known speakers, such as former President Bush, drawing the public onto campus, and putting UT Tyler on the map.

UT continues to reach for the far horizon and make valuable contributions to society, as it intensifies its focus on its research program. Federal, state, and private funding for this research helps cover the latest scientific equipment, pays for more faculty, and makes UT more appealing to first-rate graduate students.

If you are looking for an excellent, affordable education with a private-school feel, check out UT Tyler.
