Like everyone else I’ve seen the television ads for the Dyson fan and wondered how the thing works without fan blades. My cousin and I were recently discussing this very thing when we decided to do a little research on the topic.
After visiting a few customer reviews we discovered that there are in fact blades contained in the fan’s base. The air is simply channeled up through the round “air foil.” A couple of days later I examined a display model at my local Home Depot. The commercials have often described the noise generated by a conventional fan as unsettling. “The blades buffet the air creating a pulse, but the Dyson fan creates a constant stream of air…” or something along those lines. Sorry to say the noise level (if that bothers you), is about the same as a conventional, less sexy, general market fan. The air put out by the Dyson fan is not too bad, also about the same as her more average cousins. The Dyson fan is not a scam. For the most part it does what the manufacturer says it does. But nor is it, in my opinion, as cool as they imply either. There’s really no new method of moving air, as the design would seem to suggest. So what’s the draw? Well obviously its aesthetics. The Dyson fan looks like something you’d see sitting on Captain Picard’s desk, particularly the mat grey model with the blue air foil. But good looks are costly. The price on most models has come down to around three hundred dollars… yes down. So you’re looking at paying more than ten times the price of a more plain Jane Wal-Mart fan.
At the end of the day the Dyson fan is a cool product, however how much is your average consumer willing to pay for cool? As for me I’ll stick to my old school oscillating fan that I paid about twenty dollars for, even if it is unsettling.
Here in the last few years, the Tyler Texas market has seen somewhat of a change regarding Halloween. More adults are now starting to get involved again with the tradition. Until just recently, Halloween was thought of as more of a kid’s tradition that focused solely on children’s costumes.
Things have now started to change and adults are starting to have a little more fun than they use to. The market has actually seen a thirty percent increase in adult costumes over the last couple of years. This is because adults are starting to have a better time dressing up and enjoying the holiday.
Maybe we have seen this increase because there is more stress in the workplace, so people want to take the chance to relax. The celebration of Halloween is different with adults than children. Adult costumes do not focus so much on movies and superheroes. Adult costumes have become increasingly more showy and sexy. I for one will dress up like a sexy ape this Halloween for maybe 5 minutes and that is about as sexy as I am going to get.
I dress as an ape because for once a year I like many adults want to relax and really show my sexy ape side of me and my awesome costume and have a good time. This new tradition is starting to make Halloween more fun for all age groups again. Adults are starting to get together more as a group to celebrate the tradition.
Believe it or not, sexy types of outfits have been the leading costumes for adults over the past couple of years for Tyler Texas Halloween costume shoppers. So there is proof in the pudding that we as adults are starting to enjoy the holidays a little more than we used to.
At the same time there are a lot of awkward moments as you see a teenage daughter of a friend from church in a catholic school girl outfit way to small for their body and they aren’t even catholic.
Well, allow me to be the first to say that it appears I was wrong in my assessment of whether Governor Perry would run for president. Back in May I said that I doubted that the Texas Governor would seek the Republican nomination, but how things have changed since then! With the national economy on the decline, and the GOP looking for a top tier candidate to lead the Presidential ticket, our executive is more and more in demand. Now I’ve had my issues with the governor from time to time, and to be honest he hasn’t been my first choice, but in the absence of any other recognizable candidates, Perry is looking more and more like the most viable choice. He’s a stalwart defender of the second and the tenth amendments, business friendly and for the most part, fiscally conservative. And I must confess to a certain cynical pleasure in the idea of the country choosing another Texas Governor after being told that surely no Texan would ever be elected after Mr. Bush.
At the end of the day our state has the healthiest economy of any other state in the union, and that’s no accident! It is in fact a credit to a capitalist friendly, pro- business, low tax, right to work, state and local government. Like him or not, at some point the governor deserves at least a share in the credit for our state’s fiscal health. It is largely on this basis that republicans all over the nation are clamoring for him to run for the nomination. And according to a number of sources I’ve read, Mr. Perry is expected to declare that he’s jumping into the race this weekend. The announcement would come just a week after the governor’s day of prayer which was held in Houston this past weekend. While it may or may not be what he intended, the event certainly helped to raise his visibility and certify his conservative Christian credentials. While we sometimes disagree with him, Mr. Perry has earned his stripes here. If he’ll take the same economic course nationally, that he’s taken here in Texas, in my opinion, he’s worth supporting.
As in most of the country we are in what the weather men are calling the heat dome. This dome of heat has kept temperatures above 100 degrees going on over 30 days now. At this time many peoples air conditioning bills are doubling in price.
The Texas ERCOT electric grid is experiencing record breaking demand which means if you are not locked into a fixed electric rate you will likely get a pretty nasty looking bill.
When it comes down to it it doesn’t matter a whole lot what your electric rate is if your home is not energy efficient. Regardless of your electric rate you will likely see your bill double in price as you use twice as much electricity usage.
The main way your home uses this additional energy is by the energy your air conditioning system uses. In East Texas we spend most of our money on the electricity bill on air conditioning charges.
In places like Seattle Washington they go year round without ever turning on an AC unit. Since we do not have the luxury of that it is important that you insulate your attic and look into upgrading to a high efficiency air conditioner.
A high efficiency unit can reduce our electricity bill by about 1/3rd. You may spend a couple thousand more on a high efficiency unit but the money comes back to you right away which makes it a very smart low cost money saving option.
Of course insulating your attic is one of the cheapest ways but upgrading your AC unit is right behind that. Aire Serv of Smith County can help you with looking at high efficiency air conditioner options. They offer financing as well so you don’t have to pay for all of the cost right away.
Now is a good time to look into the small cost involved in significantly reducing your electric bill in Tyler Texas.

Ok admittedly this is not a terribly new story, but I’m only just now getting to writing on it, so readers will have to please bear with me as it’s an important story for our area. Representatives from Tyler and Lindale met in June and hammered out an agreement between the two cities which defined their Extra Territorial Jurisdictions (ETJ). The ETJ is the surrounding area outside the city limits into which the city anticipates it will grow. Tyler’s ETJ is obviously larger (about five miles) than that of its sister city (about one mile) due to its size. The primary reason for the agreement is that both communities anticipate good growth along highway 69 and interstate 20. The continued expansion of loop 49 is also expected to help spur growth. The “treaty” will allow both towns to grow in such away, that they can reap the maximum benefit from their proximity to the important freeways. As they grow into their ETJs the border (Tyler’s northern and Lindale’s southern), will be defined more or less permanently.
