How politics have changed in this country the last few years! Last week the State of Texas was denied federal assistance by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA). The wildfires in the west have damaged over 2.2 million acres, more than the states of Rhode Island and Delaware combined. There have been more than 9000 fires reported since November and more than 400 homes have been destroyed. Yet FEMA denied the Governor’s request for aid on the basis that the state has already been given twenty “targeted grants” specifically to deal with wildfire threats. The governor’s office responded by stating that the federal money was already specified for particular incidents not for larger more general damages. Governor Perry said “I am dismayed that this administration has denied Texans the much needed assistance they deserve. It is not only the obligation of the federal government, but its responsibility under law to help its citizens in times of emergency. Our state has become a model for the nation in disaster preparedness and response, but Texas is reaching its capacity to respond to these emergencies.” I must confess to having mixed emotions on this issue. On one hand, as a Texan I take great pride in the fact that when disasters come, natural or otherwise, (and we’ve experienced both in my family in recent months and years), we don’t sit on our front porch and wait for the FEMA trucks to arrive! We get out and help our neighbors and ourselves pick up the pieces and put our lives back in order. On the other hand I simply can’t believe that this current administration in Washington has suddenly become so fiscally conservative that they simply can’t find the money to assist those who have lost homes in West Texas wildfires.
This administration has funded every pork barrel, boondoggle project it could find over the last couple year under the guise “economic stimulus,” and now suddenly when a state which happens to be in political opposition to the president, finds itself in dire straits, the money dries up? I find it impossible to believe that there’s not a bit of quid-pro-quo happening here! You can call me a conspiracy hack if you want, I’d rather owe the feds as little as possible anyway, but when I see the administration in Washington investigating the possibility of bailing out blue states like California, and in turn refusing to help a red state like Texas with disaster relief, I can’t help but conclude that political bias is at play! Say what you want about President Bush, but he was much more even handed in helping any state recover from disaster, red or blue.

Having lived in the frozen Midwest for a number of years I can testify to the fact that seasonal effectiveness disorder is a real thing. It’s easy to get cabin fever, and generally depressed during the winter months in St. Paul. The sky is perpetually grey and as you drive through the city you can observe the steam pouring from any number of large buildings. The trick to living in those types of cold environments is to find winter hobbies and things to do that get you out of the house and keep you from becoming sedentary. One of the favorite hobbies up north is bowling. The first time I ever went was while living in that northern metropolis.
Growing up in East Texas the weather (even during the winter months) was never that bad. As such, my brothers and I were nearly always outside. Indoor “sports,” like bowling, were just not on our radar; consequently I’m a lousy bowler. Well thankfully, our uncharacteristically cold winter is over and spring is in full effect. But just because it’s beautiful outside doesn’t mean I can’t sacrifice a few spring morning hours to compete in King’s Academy’s third annual Bowl-a-thon.
Every year the staff, students and families of King’s Academy Christian School participate in a fundraiser to help with the School’s expenses and to provide scholarships to potential students who require financial aid. Participants seek pledges and sponsorships from individuals and area businesses. Each student has as their goal to raise one hundred fifty dollars in pledges. Sponsors usually promise a certain amount per pin that the participant can knock over, in three games. The event takes place on May 7th at Green Acres Bowling, and runs from nine to noon. Some of this year’s sponsors include: Primerica, Tech Serve Consulting, Townley Engineering, Write Way, UBS, and Jireh Sanitation. For more information on how to participate or for information on King’s Academy, visit the school’s webpage at www.kacs.net , or contact the office at (903)534-9992.

Another school year is wrapping up and on most of our minds is the hoopla surrounding graduation, summer vacation, higher electric bills due to cooling costs, etc. etc. But for most area students, the fall semester is just around the corner. I realize that for some, its sacrilege to bring that up now, but it will be here before we know it. For those of us who teach, the cycles of the school year are the unending patterns that govern our lives… but I digress. At least in private schools, every fall there’s a mad rush to recruit as many new students at the last minute as possible. This is especially true for jr. high and high schoolers, who are notorious for waiting to the last, minute to register. Elementary parents are typically far more conscientious about early registration. I can assure the reader, that your children’s school appreciates the fore thought.
Another great concern for area private educators is the tendency many families have to save money in tough financial times, by pulling their students out of private education and enrolling them in public schools. While I certainly understand the need to pare back on monthly expenses, as a parent there is very little I wouldn’t sacrifice to keep my son in a solid academic environment and out of the government schools! A solid education (particularly a religious one) is an investment in a child’s future, which will pay dividends in an ever- changing world. For families who find themselves in a tough financial bind, but who are committed to their children’s private academic excellence, I recommend looking at other (hopefully more inexpensive) options in our area this summer, before placing their students in public schools.
Tyler is blessed with just about every conceivable kind of private school, from pre-K to twelfth grade. In fact I can think of a couple small start-up schools that opened last semester and another is preparing to open in the fall! Schools are becoming more and more like churches in our town (not surprising I guess since many are actually housed in and operated by local congregations). In actuality, we don’t need any more of either here. We have some tremendous, churches and some great schools, Rather than opening new ones we need to participate in and support those we already have. Certainly we can all find a place with an approach and a philosophy with whom we can at least mostly agree!
We here at Tyler Directory have written about nearly all the private schools and educational models available in our area. To read about specific schools and or, their philosophies of education, look to the bottom right of this page, and click the education tab for a list of articles.

Primelending: 903-939-3220
A few short years ago there were quite a few sub-prime mortgage lenders. At that time my credit score was just starting to look somewhat decent and for me a sub-prime lender made the most since. I ended up being ready to get a home mortgage right as the sub-prime bubble burst and was unable to score the loan I wanted based on my credit score and work history.
I eventually was able to get a loan for a Tyler Texas home but it took a lot of shopping around and talking to different lenders. When trying to get a loan through a bank they usually like to have some type of established relationship with you but there are other choices such as lenders who specialize in home mortgage loans.
Today I took a look at a couple Tyler Texas home mortgage lenders and found some details for those who may be shopping for a place to give them a home loan. Primelending specializes in offering all different types of loans and even home loans most others do not even try to get for their customers. For instance, I found out Primelending of Tyler routinely helps veterans with VA loans while most other mortgage lenders simply do not want to deal with the hassle of these because the money just isn’t there.
Primelending also does FHA and USDA home mortgage loans and quite a few other options. If you are looking for choices regarding your home loan in Tyler Texas I recommend checking out this place as it may speed up the process of trying to get that loan you have been wanting. I need to mention that I have not been paid to mention Primelending as a home mortgage company I like and so this is strictly my own opinion from the research I have done. I hope it helps.
I also stopped by and took a look at another home loan company in Tyler Texas called Professional Mortgage Associates. This company also specializes in finding multiple loan options for those relocating to a new Tyler home. This company handles shopping for USDA rural housing loans, VA Texas vet loans, conventional loans, and FHA loans.
Professional Mortgage Associates mentions that they will help you avoid the pitfall of falling for a teaser home mortgage rate. Their website has a few great resources that may help you such as testimonials, the loan process, mortgage calculators, and a loan application right online.
Feel free to give either company a call if you need to begin shopping for a home loan in Tyler Texas.
If you think you need help on improving your credit first please call a credit repair company first. You can call Lexington Law: Call Now: 877-223-9585
