When going into a store to buy a TV you really don’t need to spend a whole lot of time examining the picture because the store changes the brightness on each set to make the one they are trying to sell the most of look the best. In the store you may see a TV with a very nice bright picture and that is simply because they adjusted the brightness setting. Another TV will likely have just as good of a picture but the brightness setting has been dimmed down. A sales guy can go in and sell a bunch of the cheaper TV in large volume by talking down the more expensive set and showing you the bright TV. Most consumers will not have any idea what TV is better than another and will listen to the sales person and believe whatever they tell them.
I walked into one Tyler Texas TV store that will remain anonymous and the sales guy there told me the reason why one TV was better than the other one had to do with the fact that it had “better parts”. Beyond “better parts” he could not explain why the TV was better. He was trying to sell me the cheaper model that likely had a better chance of getting out the door. I decided to go back home and research and what I found out was that there were actually a lot of good reasons to go pay a little more for the nicer model television. Things like more HDMI slots for things like playstation, satellite TV, DVD player and other hook ups allow for never having to fiddle with cables behind the TV every time you want to play a DVD, video game, or use your satellite TV.
When choosing a time of the year to buy your TV you will always save the most money by camping out in front of Best Buy the day before Thanksgiving. Last year I discovered that these professional appliance parking lot campers are now being sponsored by major brands. Simply by camping out in the front parking lot and placing a company logo on your canvas tent or couch you might get a little money for your effort. Many times the news stations come out and film and take pictures of the campers and place these pictures on their newspapers front page or nightly news cast. This allows for free publicity to Best Buy as well as whatever logos are on the canvas tents.
BY buying your TV on the day before Thanksgiving sale you will likely save anywhere from $200 – $500 on your TV. It is a very smart thing if you can wait to give yourself time to think and research your purchase. Than on the day before thanksgiving go to a place like Don’s TV’s and Appliances, Best Buy, Sam’s, or Walmart and buy yourself a TV. Our favorite place to go is Don’s TV and Appliances because they are the “Get More Store” and will usually throw in an item or two for buying your TV from them. Don’s prices are very good as well.
