Tyler Texas Conservative Voter Guide 2012 – Grassroots America We The People

May 16th, 2012

Printer friendly conservative voter guide – click here

Update: GAWTP endorsed Ted Cruz as the Republican nominee for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Kay Bailey Hutchinson ….by a vote of 7 of 9 Board Members

Thanks for requesting information about voter information and voter guides for the Smith County Primary election on May 29th …and for Early Voting which began Monday, May 14th and runs through Friday, May 25th.

The link below will allow you to get as comprehensive as you wish to get (the first two sub-sites listed) ….or it can give you a quick, handy guide (the third sub-site) which very concisely shows you the 11-races for which GAWTP has issued endorsements (based on the very high bar of requiring agreement by at least of 7 of the 9 Board members).

Click on www.gawtp.com and go to the second tab at the top entitled 2012 One Stop Voter Information. There you can drop down and bring up the following recommended sub-sites:

Then go down and click on Races. Use this section to get a comprehensive bio for each candidate for which GAWTP has endorsed and why GAWTP made the endorsements

Conservative Voter Guides

Here you will find six (6) conservative voter guides. Pick one or more to get a flavor of the most conservative candidates in each race

Handy Reference

Here you will get brief but pertinent information about early voting dates, times and locations as well as a handy guide on the 11-races for which the Board of Directors of GAWTP has issued endorsements

Please note, GAWTP has not yet made an endorsement for the Republican primary race for U.S. Senator because the GAWTP sponsored Senate Debate/Forum will take place Wednesday evening, May 16th  from 6:30 until 8:00 PM at Lakeview Church of the Nazarene, and we wish to wait for the conclusion of this debate before making a decision on an endorsement. Following the debate GAWTP is expected to vote on if indeed we wish to make an endorsement, and, if so, for whom the Board feels would be the best candidate to take the nomination. Incidentally, please attend this debate if at all possible. There is no doubt this will be a very informative forum. Next to the Presidency, the various races around the country for Senate nominations are the important races facing the voters of this (still) great country! Committed attendees to the Debate/Forum are: Lela Pittenger, Ted Cruz, Glenn Addison, Craig James and Tom Leppert (the staff of David Dewhurst has been notified, but we’ve not yet received word on whether or not he will be in attendance). If indeed we make an endorsement of a candidate at the conclusion of the Debate, I will forward that information to each after the vote Wednesday evening.

Hope this information helps, and please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me if you have questions or need additional information. Remember it’s very important to vote, but even more important than simply voting is the need to be an informed voter!

How Mastic Can Solve Your Energy Bill Problem

With home construction and home repair problems I constantly experience at my house I can get really frustrated as I have no construction back ground and cannot really fix too many of these things myself. I love to try but I usually screw something up along the way.

What I love to get is a helpful tip along the way that shows me a quick way to fix one of the many problems you often see in an older built house like mine. Many old houses have air conditioning ducts that have never been wrapped with insulation or had the cracks painted with a paint substance called mastic.

If you have been in your homes attic and have noticed that your ducts are not wrapped in insulation than you can almost bet that mastic has not been applied either. What mastic does is to seal the duct which typically reduces the air leakage coming out of those duct systems around the size of a large pizza.

Just imagine having a a whole the size of a pizza on the side of your house where your cool AC air just blows right out of. This is what is happening if you have not had your duct work sealed using mastic. This job can easily be done by a home owner and requires two very easy to get things and nothing more. You simply go to the hardware store and buy a can of mastic and a paint brush.

mastic ac duct paintingNext go up into your attic and paint the mastic around where each duct piece connects to the next one. You will be up in your attic awhile so be sure to wait until the sun goes down to do this work.

By doing this small construction job that requires little construction knowledge you can reduce your monthly electric bill dramatically.

If you would like an AC contractor to come to your Tyler home and check out this possibility for you I recommend giving Smith County Aire Serv a call at (903) 592-7773.

What is one of the cheapest ways to go green in Tyler Texas?

August 2nd, 2011

Aire Serv of Smith County
As in most of the country we are in what the weather men are calling the heat dome. This dome of heat has kept temperatures above 100 degrees going on over 30 days now. At this time many peoples air conditioning bills are doubling in price.

The Texas ERCOT electric grid is experiencing record breaking demand which means if you are not locked into a fixed electric rate you will likely get a pretty nasty looking bill.

When it comes down to it it doesn’t matter a whole lot what your electric rate is if your home is not energy efficient. Regardless of your electric rate you will likely see your bill double in price as you use twice as much electricity usage.

The main way your home uses this additional energy is by the energy your air conditioning system uses. In East Texas we spend most of our money on the electricity bill on air conditioning charges.

In places like Seattle Washington they go year round without ever turning on an AC unit. Since we do not have the luxury of that it is important that you insulate your attic and look into upgrading to a high efficiency air conditioner.

A high efficiency unit can reduce our electricity bill by about 1/3rd. You may spend a couple thousand more on a high efficiency unit but the money comes back to you right away which makes it a very smart low cost money saving option.

Of course insulating your attic is one of the cheapest ways but upgrading your AC unit is right behind that. Aire Serv of Smith County can help you with looking at high efficiency air conditioner options. They offer financing as well so you don’t have to pay for all of the cost right away.

Now is a good time to look into the small cost involved in significantly reducing your electric bill in Tyler Texas.

Tyler TX Assisted Living Choices

June 26th, 2011

Tyler Texas Assisted LivingWhen choosing among the many Tyler Texas assisted living facilities it helps to know what value each facility offers.

Some elder care facilities in Smith County focus on the cafeteria menu as their primary selling point. You will find some facilities offer mainly heart healthy meals and others have primarly good home cooking menus that aren’t so stricked on “healthy”.

The niches within the elder care industry are independent living, memory care, heart dialisys care, and several care levels in between.

A new trend in assisted and independent living that allows residence an extended stay is to hire outside help for helping your loved one keep track and take their medication.

For many elderly people that would normally go over to a Tyler nursing home because of their memory issues regarding taking their meds they can now stay a little longer in independent or assisted living with the added help.

The costs associated with Tyler Texas assisted living can be handled by the staff that move your loved one in to their facility. They can help you fill out the required paper work so you get things done stress free and timely.

Going over details of benefits offered at each Tyler facility as well as failures regarding code of conduct will assist in you choosing the best facility.

With any elderly care community in Tyler it is always recommended that you go by during the day and night to meet the care workers that will be the ones primarily responsible for taking care of your loved one.

A big smile and strong handshake while looking at them in the eye will usually tell you all you need to know. If none of the care workers seem to give your surprise visit and greeting the time of day you can usually assume they are hiding something if the very least a guilty conscious.

Many of the questions and concerns surrounding elder care choices in Tyler Texas can be answered by an assisted living consultant. We recommend speaking to a consultant to get started today.

The Annual Master Gardener’s Garden Tour

April 17th, 2011

Based on the current state of my lawn, one would never believe that I really do enjoy gardening and yard work, particularly at this time of year. I the past I have learned a lot from the experimentation process, seeing what grows best where, when and in what soil. Unfortunately, the busyness of my life as it currently stands makes it impossible for me to keep up with any major outdoor projects. For those like me, who enjoy a walk in the garden but don’t have the time to grow one for themselves, allow me to suggest a visit to the Smith County Master Gardener’s Home Garden Tour.

The Smith County Master Gardener’s Garden Tour is an annual event that features master gardeners displaying their own hard work and dispensing ideas and advise to visiting Tylerites. Each gardener has developed their own space in their own style. And their work is not limited to gardening. The yards on display are complete landscaping projects. The locations are spread around Tyler including; Mobile Dr., W. Sixth, FM 724, Harvey Rd, and the Cascades. Admission is ten dollars for advance tickets and ten dollars at the door. For more information on this beautiful and fascinating event, visit the following website: http://scmg.tamu.edu/mg-projects/home-garden-tour/ , or call Keith Hanson at (903) 590-2980.
