Pine Cove

January 4th, 2010

Pine Cove started as nothing more than just a dream of four men sitting on a boat in 1964. The first Pine Cove summer camp was in 1968, started by Bill McKenzie. Over 800,000 people have gone through the Pine Cove camps. Pine Cove has six different locations that camps are held at; Towers, Ranch, Timbers, Shores, Woods, and Bluffs.

These summer camps are much more than just a group of kids sitting around a fire and singing and telling ghost’s stories. The camps inspire kids to dig deep into God’s Word. Pine Cove has camps for youth, young kids, adults and families. For kids and youth Pine Cove inspires to kids to focus on God and His will in there life. They will enjoy the adventures and excitement everyday. For family and the adult camps, Pine Cove tries to make an environment to allow a great away from your everyday life. Families will be able to reconnect and build stronger relationships.

Pine Cove is founded on the scripture verse, Matthew 28:19 “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations…” Pine Cove sends out groups of youth and adults every year to different places around the world to spread the Word of God. These trips are called “One:8 Trips” and last about one to two weeks during the spring and summer breaks. Many more trips are available for summer and year-round staff.

There is always a need for summer staff. They offer positions as musicians, counselors, lifeguards and so much more. Other positions are available through the year, in the kitchen, and serving meals during conferences and retreats, and much more.

Pine Cove puts on many conferences. Some of the conferences that are put on are Scrapbooking, “dads and dudes” (dads and sons in grades K-6), father/son (junior high boys and their dads), mother daughter retreats, Men’s conferences, women’s conferences, and conferences for each holiday; “New Years Family” and “Valentines Couples”/ “Romance Me”. Each conference has a special speaker, either a known speaker or a member of the Pine Cove staff. Check out their website for times and information on retreats and speakers.

There are four different retreat centers in the Tyler Texas area. They are great places to get away from the chaos and busyness of everyday life. The four center, Towers, Ranch, Timbers, and shores, all have newly built bunk bed cabins. If you enjoy the relaxing sunset over the lake or the excitement of zip lines and adventure, each facility has what you need according to the ages and size of your group.

Pine Cove offers an outdoor education programs. These programs are opened for group events and school field trips. Also allow your students corporate in the “Team Building” activities. Let your junior high and high school students enjoy the zip lines, high rope elements and much more.

Things To Do In Tyler Texas

December 16th, 2009

This will be a reoccurring topic in the Tyler TX Directory as one of the most common things you hear in any non-metropolitan city is that there is nothing to do in this town. I usually hear this from those obviously too cool to be living in Tyler with their facial piercings and angry Mohawk syndrome. Let’s face it there are some cool people in Tyler and I see them hanging out all the time over at Starbucks. From what I hear they all want to go to New York to experience life because this town is just not that cool and never was.

Well I like Tyler Texas and have found some interesting things to do here quite frequently. About half of making this town fun and enjoyable is to get yourself connected with some local friends. These friends will make things more fun in general regardless of what you do and will be able to hook you up with some places you would not normally have access to. For instance, I get to fish at this private lake from time to time with my father n’ law that I never knew about before. I won’t say where exactly but there are about 7 different camps, Christian camps, and retreats in the Tyler area that have everything from ziplines, pools, private lakes, to mountain bike trails. These little areas represent some extras that most Tyler people do not have access to but with a few connections you could very easily be able to have a little fun at one of these places. You may already have access to one of these places but have taken it for granted.
