Based on the current state of my lawn, one would never believe that I really do enjoy gardening and yard work, particularly at this time of year. I the past I have learned a lot from the experimentation process, seeing what grows best where, when and in what soil. Unfortunately, the busyness of my life as it currently stands makes it impossible for me to keep up with any major outdoor projects. For those like me, who enjoy a walk in the garden but don’t have the time to grow one for themselves, allow me to suggest a visit to the Smith County Master Gardener’s Home Garden Tour.
The Smith County Master Gardener’s Garden Tour is an annual event that features master gardeners displaying their own hard work and dispensing ideas and advise to visiting Tylerites. Each gardener has developed their own space in their own style. And their work is not limited to gardening. The yards on display are complete landscaping projects. The locations are spread around Tyler including; Mobile Dr., W. Sixth, FM 724, Harvey Rd, and the Cascades. Admission is ten dollars for advance tickets and ten dollars at the door. For more information on this beautiful and fascinating event, visit the following website: http://scmg.tamu.edu/mg-projects/home-garden-tour/ , or call Keith Hanson at (903) 590-2980.

Pioneer Day in Lindale TX was yesterday and a lot of fun. We brought my son and nephews and ended up seeing a lot of old timey tools, barns, devices, blacksmith shop, and people dressed up from that time period.
The tour of antique tractors, tools and farm buildings was super cool for all of us but the crystal clear pond full of fish and turtles was awesome!
We got some fish food and fed perch, catfish, and turtles for quite awhile. You could see right through the water. The fish feeding part of the tour was the last thing we did there and then headed off to Andy’s frozen custard in Tyler TX to close out the day.
Next year plan on coming to Pioneer Day at Old Mill Pond. The park and museum is free and is right off Hwy 69 as you enter Lindale.

We made our way back to Aren’t Kids Cute in Lindale.
This is a kids resale shop and they have tons of clothes, toys, cribs,
jumpers, strollers, and a heck of a lot more.
They also have the added benefit of believing as do I that kids are cute, especially my kid.

There have been a lot of issues on the Tyler Junior College campus when it comes to gang related fights and robberies. The school campus is finally doing something about it. All students are required to wear their school identification card around their neck while they are on the school property. The security has also put up small fences on walls that gangs sat on and many fights broke out due to what gang sat where. All these fights seemed petty and pretty childish for college students. A lot of times guys would sit around the campus that are not students of Tyler Junior College, and many complaints have been made that these groups f guys would harass girls coming out of classes.
The rule of having to wear your identification bag has brought up some different feelings in students. I, personally, think that it is a great idea. I am sick of all the fights that break out by people hanging out around the school, only because they have no where better to be, and they are not students or involved with the school. The only complaints that I have heard about this rule is that people do not want to wear the identification cards because it does not match their clothes. You can pick out the apache freshmen when you walk into Wal-Mart and see them proudly wearing their id.
Another rule that Tyler Junior College has recently started to enforce is that the college campus has become smoke free. Although many times you can find students hiding behind buildings and in bushes, you now have to take the time to walk across the street to smoke.
Many students and staff have different opinions about these rules, but I think that the school is on their way to making the property a safer and cleaner campus.
