Find or Refer a Contractor in Tyler

Jack O’ Diamonds in Tyler

July 2nd, 2010

When shopping for cars the most annoying thing about the shopping experience is definitely the salesmen. I hate that the moment you drive into the Jack O’ Diamonds parking lot you are immediately bombarded by men trying to get you to buy a car before you even have a chance to park.

We have been looking around for a car lately, and decided to hold our breath and deal with the annoying salesmen at Jack O’ Diamonds. They have cars in all sizes. It is a great place to look if you want a car for your family that gets more than 15 gallons of gas per a mile.

The car lot has many different makes of cars for sale. You can buy Lincoln, Mercury, Honda, and even can find a few Fords there. Personally I love the look and make of a Honda. We came looking for a car that was able to fit more than two car seats and that would not empty our wallets because of the horrible gas mileage.

Not to our surprise we were immediately approached by a salesman before we were able to park. They asked questions before we were even able to get out of the car or get our children out. Once we really explained that we wanted all these things at a price that would fit our low budget, the salesman was extremely helpful, and surprisingly was not pushing us to get way over our budget.

He showed us a few cars that were exactly what we were looking for, but we needed to discuss the purchase a little bit longer before we went ahead and bought the car. We were very impressed by how the salesman was not extremely pushing to make the decision and respected our need to sleep on it.

Although we did not purchase a car that day we will be going back in hopes that we get the same car salesman and find the car perfect for us. Finding a car is extremely stressful and I think that sales men should help you make a choice and not put more pressure on you that are unnecessary.

Sadly, usually the salesmen are more pushing and frustrating at Jack O’ Diamonds. Even as we were leaving, another salesman yelled after us, asking why we did not find what we were looking for. Hopefully if you are looking for a Tyler car you will have the luck we had!

Jack O Diamonds Scam

May 12th, 2010

This week jack o diamonds in Tyler Texas is having some sort of repo sale. They sent out mass mail to everyone with a scratch off saying you “Win 30,000 if you match the numbers above”. To the best of my memory the numbers were 7, 9, 11, 34, 64

We scratched the ticket, and the middle scratch off said we won. We knew it had to be a scam or gimmick, so before we got all excited, we read the rules. The rule about the 30k prize said you had to be 18 and something about having scratched 6 of 30. It was very brief about the 6 of 30 and didn’t elaborate at all so I was just confused about that part. Basically the rules led you to believe all you had to do was claim your prize because you just won.

My girlfriend called jack o diamonds and asked if it was just some sort of scam or gimmick to get us to come to their event. A woman answered back saying no it was not a scam or gimmick, you just had to come claim your prize. We went up there and a gentleman from Dallas greeted us, he sat us down in his office, after we went by the numerous tables in the front where everyone was sitting and had the same scratch off thing I did. I tried to see if it said they won too, but I couldn’t tell. The salesman gave us his spill about the deals that they had going today and asked if we were interested in buying a car, I said “Well if a car is our prize I will be fine with that. Do we have to enter again get our prize today?” He told me I didn’t have to enter, but before we went any further that he needed some information. It was the information that the dealer always gets from you when he tries to make a sale, details about your vehicle, information to get your credit score, your phone number so they can call and bug you, etc. I never did smile because I had a feeling they were trying to just sell me a vehicle. The guy jokingly tried to get me to smile and was all “Cmon man you haven’t smiled once since you’ve been here.” I said, “Yea, because I’m late to work.”. So I asked if I could fill out the information sheet for him, and he told me how they preferred he did it, but I eventually ended up filling it out, I know he would have taken forever. While I was filling it out he was asking about our vehicles, seeing if we wanted to trade them in. Neither of us wanted to trade in our vehicles and at this point were being rather rude. Then I realized, I bet we have to scratch another card to get 6 of 30, so I asked him. He said yes, but we don’t have anymore 6 of 30 cards, we wont have those until tomorrow. (I assume they are told to say this in case you actually want to try for the

30,000.) I told him whatever just give us the chance for the $100 or 3 gold coins. (The prizes were – 3 gold coins, $100, some hybrid car, and 30,000, The rules say you have 1 in 540,000 chance of getting the 30,000, but I assume this is if everyone scratches off the cards and they don’t lie to you and say they don’t have them right now.) We scratched it, and it said we won 3 gold coins(value of $3). He gave us the gold coins and we left.

-Note to self, jack o diamonds in Tyler is a shady dealership with gimmicky tactics. It is sad they have to go this low to get business.

Exotic Fish in Tyler

January 8th, 2010

Exotic Fish

2501 Loop 323
Tyler, TX 75701-9210
(903) 509-0105

Well, it seems I may have a new favorite business in Tyler. Walking into the Exotic Fish store is almost like visiting a scuba shop where the reef is brought indoors. This new store seems like something one might find in a costal Texas town rather than somewhere this far from the Gulf. They have an incredibly beautiful selection of fish in the most vibrant colors found this side of the beach. Tyler’s Exotic Fish carries an amazingly diverse selection of species; including all the usual fresh water varieties, as well as specialty fish like rays, eels and even, (from time to time) small sharks.

As someone who has enjoyed owning aquariums off and on for years, I know a little about the hobby; the people at E.F. in Tyler know a lot. They offer a tremendous selection of all things aquarium related. They sell fish tanks of nearly every shape and size and can help the customer install either a salt or fresh water aquarium in his or her home or office. The store also sells accessories like coral, stone and various plants. And fish are not the only interest here. The Tyler Texas store has a section for exotic reptiles as well including lizards, snakes and more.

Due to the fact that this is a specialty shop, expect to pay more. These are not the four for a dollar variety one might find at Walmart, but the fish won’t be dead by the time you get them home either. The folks at the Exotic Fish store are actually experts who can offer help and advice to anyone with just about any question about up keep of their tanks.

A visit to this store is an event whether or not you intent to buy and it’s actually an educational experience for the kids who will be mesmerized by all the fish. Check out Tyler’s Exotic Fish store at their new location on the loop across from Jack O’ Diamonds.

Quick Lane Tire & Auto

November 27th, 2009

Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center (Formerly called Super Pit Crew Oil Change) is a business that is based solely on the premise that men wish they were race car drivers. Why? Because race car drivers get to hang out where the action is, have their hands on really, really expensive toys, and get to wait on other people to do all the work on their cars. Fifty years ago, Quick Lane probably wouldn’t have succeeded. Men were men then, and knew how to change their own oil, align their tires, and pop in a new transmission all before breakfast! At least, that’s what they tell us. But for the would be Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s of the world, Quick Lane is the perfect place to bring your car.

Why? Because Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center lets customers hang out in their huge lobby, watch ESPN on their huge Hight Definition TV, enjoy a helping of popcorn, and salivate over their real race car. All while their own car is receiving a clean dose of oil, a wax, and maybe a brake job.[ad#large-blog-block]

Quick Lane specializes in on oil changes and tire issues. They have a broad selection of tires, especially Goodyear. They also are very good with alignments, brakes, shocks, struts, and inspections. I usually brought my car to Quick Lane for oil changes and general inspections, and they always did a good. Their customer service is excellent. They kept me, the customer, well informed, and were always thorough in giving me my options. Plus, watching sports in the middle of the day was always terrific!

Quick Lane is not so good for bigger jobs. Maybe it’s because they have a high overhead, but their prices are going to be higher than you will want to pay. Don’t go there for an A/C replacement or engine work. Let them stick to the basics: Tire, oil, and car wash. They’ll do a good job, and you will enjoy the pit stop.

Quick Lane is located on the West Loop next to the Jack-O-Diamonds Car Dealership. They accept all major credit cards.
