The Fed Ex Office in Tyler TX

April 8th, 2010

FED EX OFFICE

4522 S Broadway Avenue
Tyler TX 75703
Phone: 903 509 1090

In the shopping district opposite the mall on S Broadway you will find FedEx Office. Don’t be confused, this was once called Kinkos and offers the same services as before, but has now been re-branded.

Fed Ex Office is a chain of stores that provide a retail outlet for Fed Ex shipping, primarily geared towards small business and home office use. However, they also provide a wider service such as copy and printing services, signs, banners, and office supplies. They will make booklets for you, brochures, flyers and business cards. For family use they can make cards and personalized invitations, plus calendars and photo gifts. In the shop there is a quite a good range of office products for sale and I liked the greeting cards they stocked which were a bit out of the ordinary.

We went to Fed Ex in Tyler TX for our passport photos. They were pricey – $15 for two – but the photographer seemed to know what she was doing and exactly how the pictures needed to be for official documents. There is also a notary service provided in store which is quite handy.

There is an online service so you can download your documents to be printed and go in store for the pickup. They will also direct mail your documents. In addition, they will pack and post almost anything legal! And they have internet services and computer rental in case you should need it.

The staff at Tyler Fed Ex were friendly and helpful. I would say that the services provided are quite expensive but if you don’t want to do it yourself, then Fed Ex is a great option. The attention to detail is satisfying and they will re-do any thing that doesn’t print exactly as you want it.

Fire Mountain Amusements in Tyler Texas

FIRE MOUNTAIN AMUSEMENTS

14722 Highway 155 S
Tyler 75703
903 561 2670

Open at weekends – opening times vary according to season – see www.firemountainamusements.com for details.

Located 3 1/2 miles south of Tyler on Highway 155 is Tyler’s amusement park – Fire Mountain – you can’t miss the volcano shape!

This is a children’s amusement park – not the best in the world, but still a lot of fun for small kids. They have mini golf, bumper boats, scrambler bikes, go-karts and minikarts and inside arcade-style amusement games. We have been there twice with our kids for parties and each time they have come home desperate to go back!

One advantage to Fire Mountain is that there is no charge for entry to the facility (or for parking). This means that parents can supervise their own kids if needed at no extra cost. I loved watching my kids playing golf and bumping on the boats and it was good to see them playing the video games so enthusiastically. My son loved winning tokens and exchanging them for tiny treats at the end of the day.

The party package at Fire Mountain includes the use of a room which you can decorate however you like and a drink and plate and napkin are provided plus room clean up. You are responsible for bringing in your food and cake though there are 3 -4 pizza places who make regular deliveries to Fire Mountain. They supply the invitations and each child is given a wristband which allows one ride on each attraction plus 20 tokens for use in the arcade. You have to have 10 or more party goers to use the party room.

Fire mountain is not a cheap day out for the kids. Tickets are $1 each and you need 5 tickets for the go-karts and bumper boats and 4 for the scrambler cars and mini-golf. If you buy $50 of tickets you save 10%. The best way to do it is to buy a wristband which lets you do everything once. The cost for wristbands is $18 for under 9s and $20 for over 9s.

There is little variety at Fire mountain. Unless you are a big fan of places like Chuck-E-Cheese, it is not somewhere you would want to go regularly. Also there is no food on site (as yet) which is definitely a negative point. But once or twice a year or with a party, Fire Mountain is great fun.

The owners are quick to admit that they are still developing this amusement park. Watch this space because Fire Mountain could get much bigger in years to come.

The Dollar Tree

January 13th, 2010

You know when you’re looking for something but you have no idea where to get it and then you are somewhere where you least expect to find it and poof there it is? For me that is what happens all the time at the The Dollar Tree on HWY 64 just west of loop 323 in Tyler, TX. Every time I go in there I’m hit with “Wow thats here too! Such a deal.” So many Christmas decorations, if you didn’t get yours there this year then man you missed out. Just the items being a dollar makes it so much more fun!

There is a wedding section with little trinkets, invitations, gift idea’s and bags… I know they’re cheap but come on, the point is to remember your getting married not what they get because you’re getting married. If you are looking for fake cockroaches for a practical joke Walmart does NOT have them and yes, The Dollar Tree does.

If you are cheap about the food you eat guess what! The Dollar Tree has food. Candy, canned food, bagged food and all kinds of drinks. Check out the kitchen section! So much stuff, and for only a dollar. Even while on the way out there is the option to give to the community and buy a bag that will be given to a boy or girl that may need a gift/toy, how awesome is that kind of opportunity huh?

The store closes at 9:00pm so you’ve got time to go! If you’re debating on throwing a party but don’t want to front the funds to make it look totally awesome go The Dollar Tree, it has everything. Cleaning supplies? Once again, The Dollar Tree has it. If you have never ventured into a dollar store in Tyler, TX then put it on your to-do list, at least your bucket list, because it is quite the novelty.
