April 26th, 2011

I found this old mask in my closet I got at a Dallas Texas parade way back when I was a kid.

Guess who it is?

BJ’s restaurant coming soon!

January 31st, 2011

BJ's Restaurant in Tyler TX
I have gone to Houston quite a few times over the last couple years. Every time we have gone to Houston we eat at the BJ’s restaurant. I am excited to see that BJ’s is being built in Tyler. Tyler really does not need another restaurant, since there are basically only restaurants in Tyler, but I am very excited about BJ’s being built. The BJ’s restaurants in Houston are both restaurant and a brewery. Because of the fact that Tyler is a “dry county” this restaurant will not have a brewery and will just is a restaurant. I guess this fact will be a let down for some people, but the great variety and quality of food more than makes up for that fact. As you browse the large menu your mouth can not help but water from the great selection of food. The restaurant serves some of the best foods made with the perfect twist, no matter what your favorite food is (pasta, salad, sandwiches, steak, pizza, burgers, or giant stuffed potatoes) you will most likely find a dish at BJ’s restaurant that you will love. Just because they will not have the brewery does not mean that the restaurant will not be serving any alcohol. BJ’s restaurant will have their full wine, beer, cocktail, and specialty drinks.
BJ's in Tyler
The BJ’s restaurants also have ordering online! If you are like me, the only reason you really do not like to order take out, is because you have to sit in the restaurant for so long waiting for your food to be ready. By the time you food is done, you may as well ordered and ate at the restaurant; you would of got home around the same time. With the ordering online, you just go to the website and click on a location, browse the whole menu and put in your order. By the time you leave your home and get to the restaurant your food will be ready to take home. This is such a great and easy idea.

I can not wait for this restaurant to open. The construction is going up fast. I know that it will be a huge hit in Tyler, but even Tyler crowds will not keep from enjoying the great food at BJ’s.

What to do about Willie?

November 27th, 2010

What to do about Willie? And of course I’m referring to Willie Nelson. The iconic country singer was arrested in the west Texas town of Sierra Blanca, for what? Marijuana possession of course! The arrest took place Friday morning just over two weeks prior to his stop here in Tyler on December eleventh. Of course he posted a twenty- five hundred dollar bail and went on his way, but I doubt the incident will serve as any kind of wake- up call for the seventy seven year old musician.

The arrest brought a lot of criticism to our state, by readers and bloggers, who found Nelson’s arrest ridiculous and harassing. It’s my guess they must have been California readers. Look I’ll admit I’m torn. Telling Willie not to smoke pot is akin to telling a Kennedy to remain monogamous. It’s really for the best, but will he do it? Please… I have this vision of the country legend lighting up about a mile down the road from the police station after his release. That may be cynical, but it’s also very possible.

So what to do with Willie? According the article I read his arrest took place about nine in the morning when the office in question smelled smoke coming off the bus. Of course that particular bus is probably so saturated that the relatively uninitiated like myself, could get high on the preexisting fumes. Listen California. Please allow me to explain since many of you don’t seem to understand. We Texans are very much into personal liberties like keeping what we make, living where we want or protecting ourselves, our families and what we own. We’re generally not comfortable with widespread chemical addiction. I know Austin… I know… but for the most part we are generally conservative folks.

In the case of Willie Nelson I suggest that he spend the majority of his time in an atmosphere that allows him to pursue his… hobbies and interests, and only really venture out for concert appearances etc. When outside the commune participating in those aforementioned activities is taking chances but those are his to take. Just don’t get mad at us if he lands in hot water from time to time.

This whole story and subsequent discussion, coincides with Mr. Nelson’s visit to Tyler, which is rapidly approaching. I actually really enjoy his music and would certainly attend the concert given the opportunity. Here’s to hoping he can stay out of trouble long enough make it here. The Reappearing King

March 23rd, 2010

There are not many things more annoying than turning on the television and seeing the obnoxious masked man with ghetto gold chains creepily looking into women’s bedroom windows, or lying in bed with another grown man. The “King” has completely turned me off towards the fast food chain restaurant. Even though the king has surpassed in successfully creeping out the country, they had to throw in the whopper man and his son Jr. (Jr. whopper), and the newest spokesman. The newest spokesman looks normal but he cant hold Burger King’s burger because his hands are too small. Just to let the fast food companies know, creepy is NOT funny.

Tyler’s Burger King population has been growing this past year. They built one off the loop near Vine. And a second one is being built in front of the popular Carmike movie theatre. I was sad to hear of the closing of Italian fast food restaurant, Fazoli’s; but I was even sadder that the building was a new home of Burger King. I guess I did not know that so many people liked Burger King.

I guess I should look pass the crown and try Burger King again but it might take a little while before the nightmares end.

The Dollar Tree

January 13th, 2010

You know when you’re looking for something but you have no idea where to get it and then you are somewhere where you least expect to find it and poof there it is? For me that is what happens all the time at the The Dollar Tree on HWY 64 just west of loop 323 in Tyler, TX. Every time I go in there I’m hit with “Wow thats here too! Such a deal.” So many Christmas decorations, if you didn’t get yours there this year then man you missed out. Just the items being a dollar makes it so much more fun!

There is a wedding section with little trinkets, invitations, gift idea’s and bags… I know they’re cheap but come on, the point is to remember your getting married not what they get because you’re getting married. If you are looking for fake cockroaches for a practical joke Walmart does NOT have them and yes, The Dollar Tree does.

If you are cheap about the food you eat guess what! The Dollar Tree has food. Candy, canned food, bagged food and all kinds of drinks. Check out the kitchen section! So much stuff, and for only a dollar. Even while on the way out there is the option to give to the community and buy a bag that will be given to a boy or girl that may need a gift/toy, how awesome is that kind of opportunity huh?

The store closes at 9:00pm so you’ve got time to go! If you’re debating on throwing a party but don’t want to front the funds to make it look totally awesome go The Dollar Tree, it has everything. Cleaning supplies? Once again, The Dollar Tree has it. If you have never ventured into a dollar store in Tyler, TX then put it on your to-do list, at least your bucket list, because it is quite the novelty.
