Estes in Tyler TX

January 12th, 2010

If you are a farmer, rancher, nurseryman, tree grower or pest control professional in east Texas, Estes Inc. should be your supplier for all your pesticide and fertilizer needs. Dennis and the staff are very well informed of all the latest products and application techniques. Not only does Estes carry a full line of insecticides, herbicides, fungicides, rodenticides, termiticides and fertilizers they also sell tanks, pumps, spreaders and other equipment. They can even repair and clean your tank and application equipment.

Estes is conveniently located about 2.5 miles west of loop 323 at 12570 Hwy. 64 West in Tyler, Texas. Estes also delivers to your farm, ranch or place of business. You can call Estes at (903) 531-9304.

As a licensed pest control professional for the last 20 years I have always had a good experience dealing with Estes. Estes always has what I need, whether it is pesticides, parts for my equipment, animal traps or advice on controlling anything from Armadillos to Bed Bugs.

Estes also offers classes for the licensed operator and applicator at which you can receive CEUs to maintain your TDA or SPC license.

If you are a do it yourself homeowner and have some pests that you want to eliminate, Estes is not the place to go. Estes only caters to farmers, ranchers, commercial growers and pest control professionals. Home Owners may want to check out Center Chemical on the southeast loop in Tyler or your favorite home improvement store. A home improvement store has a wide variety of products but nearly no professional advice. You may pay a little more at Center Chemical but when it comes to applying pesticides safely, professional advice may be priceless.

Villa Montez, A Tyler Latin Restaurant Style Mansion On The Hill

January 12th, 2010

Villa Montez has now expanded their patio to wrap around some of their amazing old growth trees that are some of the largest trees of their type in the East Texas area. Since Villa Montez sits up on a mansion on the hill they have trees that grow down in the valley up past the top of their mansions roof. With the new porch wrapping around two of their large post oak trees they have one of the best views and outdoor patios in East Texas. When you order something from Villa Montez you consistently get one of the nicest food presentations that any Tyler Texas restaurant can dish out. I honestly have not seen anything quite like the food presentation that Villa Montez offers their customers. The closest thing to it is Kiepersol restaurant which is another fabulous Tyler restaurant. Kiepersol is located in Bullard and is a bit of a vacation to travel to but the experience is on par with Villa Montez. The difference between the two is price. You will pay an arm and a leg when visiting the Kiepersol winery and restaurant while you will be able to get away with an affordable classy meal and view when at Villa Montez. I recommend asking to be seated on the patio as long as the weather permits as you just can’t beat the fan misters, the view, and the trees while eating a delicous meal presented in a truly remarkable way.

My wife ordered a pork tenderloin dinner at Villa Montez and there were these white crispy things that I had no idea as to what they were but made the overall presentation just right and the little things tasted pretty good as well. I ordered the Sea Bass after many requests by the owner on several different occassions and although I am not one to normally order fish on a menu I was pleasantly surprised. The Sea Bass is now one of my new favorite menu items at Villa Montez and I think you will find it fresh and filling if you order it for yourself. If you are not a fish person and especially do not like the “fishy” taste that most fish give off than the Sea Bass is just right as there is no fishy after taste. If you like to order an appetizer before your meals then please take a look at the Chino rolls. They are basically southwestern egg rolls that come with a jalepeno jelly. These egg rolls are delicious and I order them almost every time. My father in law ordered the steak salad and unlike other restaurants, Villa Montez does not have you asking, “Where’s the beef!” He loved the salad from what I could tell and everyone liked sitting out on the patio.

After dinner, my wife and I shared a creme brule. Villa Montez gets the creme Brule right and not all places do. The creaminess was just the right amount. It was not too sweet and the caramalized sugar on top really hit it over the top. They usually put a couple of berries on top with a dab of whipped cream to make this the top desert in my list on their menu. After you get up I recommend taking astroll around their grounds. They have a very nice fountain and cement bench as well as an herb garden and water fall. The whole facility is truly amazing and I always wonder just how much it cost for the facility and refurbishing it to the degree that Villa Montez has done. The whole experience is remarkable and I really don’t have many complaints. The service there has always been spot on and you will usually see that the waiters participate as a team helping each other with making sure glasses are kept full and the food is delivered on time and to the right table. I assume tips are split up among everyone as the team participation in providing service is always consistently the same unlike most Tyler restaurants who seem to get this major part of the dining experience wrong.

The only thing I don’t like about Villa Montez is their pasta meat combinations. It is only personal preference but I just don’t like the combination and recipe of some of their pasta dishes. I think as long as you order anything else you will be more than happy and you may even like the pasta I am just an italian only type of person when it comes to pasta. Having a latin blend with pasta just doesn’t do anything for my taste buds. Do not be surprised to find one of the chefs or the owner coming by to personally meet you and shake your hand while you are here. When you first arrive you will have a large room with tables to wait before you are seated. You can order an appetizer or drink while waiting for your table and may end up meeting someone new in this little hangout. Expect Thursday – Saturday at Villa Montex to be packed but also expect a wait time for a table at a convenient 20 – 30 minutes at the most. This Tyler Texas restaurant truly gets it right on verey level. Come to Villa Montez and expect to have a 5 star dinner without the 5 star price.

Tyler State Park

January 12th, 2010

It’s hard to believe, but summer is winding down already. We all want to squeeze the last drops of rest and relaxation out of the season, (regardless of whether or not we’ve had much of that previously). Well I would suggest a trip to a favorite East Texas stop. As Texans we are blessed with a wonderful system of State Parks. Tyler State Park puts the Texas Piney Woods on display both for locals and out of towners. The park is centered around a sixty four acre lake and offers a full array of activities including: swimming, hiking, boating, fishing and camping. There are bike trails of varying difficulty and campgrounds fully equipped with water, electricity, tables and fire pits. If a customer enjoys the outdoors but prefers the comforts of the indoors, there are screened shelters and cabins.

For day trips the swimming and boating area of the park is very convenient. There is a great beach with restrooms and a concession and gift shop close by. But East Texans need not worry about trying to cram a visit into a busy summer. In Texas some of the best out door time comes in the fall. What could be better than sitting by a fire on a cool autumn night? The Park is open all year although a few activities, (like swimming for instance) may be closed for the season. This is still one of the best times to camp however, due to a lack of bugs and the cooler weather.

The cost of an outing T.S.P. is quite reasonable. A day pass is just three dollars a day for those over thirteen years of age. For primitive campsites, (meaning sites with water but no electricity) the cost is just thirteen dollars a night. For campsites with water and electric, the cost is slightly higher at seventeen dollars a night. For campsites offering water, electric and sewer hook ups, (designated primarily for recreational vehicles) the cost is twenty dollars a night. If you desire all of these functions and spot by the lake, the cost is twenty two dollars a night, (tents are permitted in this area). Lastly, screened in areas are for rent as well at a rate of twenty five dollars a night.

For businesses, church groups, or others, there are numerous programs and venues for their organized events. The park periodically holds educational events for the public as well. For more information on these opportunities see the parks webpage at www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/findadest/parks/tyler, or call (903)597-5338. Tyler State park is located on highway fourteen just off Interstate twenty.

Whether you want to close your summer with a bang, or are already planning for a fall getaway this area park has a lot to offer at a reasonable rate. Consider maximizing your play time, minimizing your travel time, and spending that vacation money close to home.

Tyler Energy Companies, Recession Proof

January 12th, 2010

Call Our Preferred Energy and Electric Service Company At 1-800-971-4020 To Compare Electricity Rates

Tyler Texas is home to a large amount of oil and drilling companies, machine shops, natural gas, and oil refining companies. Tyler and the East Texas area actually did great even during the depression because of our reliance upon the energy field as our primary income source for our economy. Now Tyler and East Texas is also known for being a strong medical center having some of the top facilities and doctors in the country for certain procedures. Even if the energy sector were to decline the medical area in Tyler would still thrive as everyone needs medical care. Everyone also needs oil, natural gas, and gasoline but sometimes the price of oil or natural gas goes down and so the need to extract more from the ground is not needed. When there is enough natural gas and oil in storage and the price is too low there is not as much drilling that is done. People in the energy field get laid off when the prices are low because drilling companies are holding off on drilling until it is cost effective to start up again.

Most of the drilling that you see in Tyler Texas is actually natural gas drilling. Natural gas is the fastest growing energy commodity being used right now. It has quickly surpassed all other energy commodities because of its ease of storage and how cheap it is. Many companies in the past and even now have burned off natural gas when pumping oil and this is still being done in several Asian countries. The natural gas that is being burned off is potential billions of dollars in additional profit to these energy companies although East Texas has been profiting from natural gas for several decades. The local refining plant here in Tyler actually burns off energy from one of their stacks as of July 2009 which is counter productive and a little archaic in this day in age. We know how to store and transport natural gas and it could mean several hundred thousand dollars if not millions of dollars simply by capping it and storing it to sell to other companies.

Since natural gas is one of the primary energy fuels in East Texas and because the world is quickly utilizing this fuel as the fuel of choice for things like electricity generation power plants we see a bright future a head for the Tyler and East Texas area. Historically when the stock market’s drop in price things like US currency and energy commodities go up in price. Energy and currency many times acts as a hedge against recessionary behaviors in the US economy. I have talked to some hair brained loonies in Tyler who have suggested investing in oil and natural gas drilling companies because of this. I strongly suggest staying away from investing in small cap stocks held by small time energy drilling companies. Oil and natural gas drilling is extremely speculative and trying to sell your small cap stock for a profit can be quite difficult when it goes up because there is not enough volume from other people wanting to buy.

A smarter way to invest in the global trend and Tyler strong hold in natural gas is to buy what is known as an ETF from a stock or commodities broker in Tyler. There are ETF’s for stock indexes, energy commodities, Gold, Silver, and many other popular items. There is no diamond ETF because diamonds have no commodity index that they are traded on. Diamonds are basically run by a monopoly company that sets their prices without interference from any type of index or market. We recommend avoiding any type of scheme related to buying diamonds or diamond stock in a small cap company. An ETF is like a mutual fund because it is a composite of several different companies in a related field but without the fees you would pay to buy a mutual fund. By saving money in fees an ETF diversifies your holdings in your preferred commodity as well as save you money you would pay a brokerage in fees to continually invest in a mutual fund. An ETF is a little more risky than investing in a mutual fund but a lot less risky than putting all your money in only one stock or commodity. Instead of investing in a small cap oil or natural gas drilling company in Tyler Texas we recommend buying an ETF. You will save yourself a lot of heartache and will likely still have something to show for your investing efforts several years down the road.

Next time you are driving down an East Texas road and see a drilling pump and get the desire of wanting to invest in drilling yourself just consider looking into ETF’s to satisfy such a risky endeavor and still participate in the East Texas and global trend towards natural gas energy. There is actually a 90% correlation with the price of natural gas and electricity in East Texas and Tyler because most of our electricity power is generated using natural gas. When picking a natural gas power company for your home you only have one choice which is Centerpoint Energy. When picking an electricity power company in Tyler and East Texas you have up to 50 different choices in electricity service companies. All of these Tyler electricity companies get their energy off of the ERCOT grid which also goes by the name Electric Reliability Council of Texas electric grid. This Texas grid operator approves a bidding system called the balancing energy market that lets power wholesalers, marketers, and generation companies to bid their power price on this enclosed Texas electric grid.

Most of the power generation companies are producing their electricity through natural gas or coal fired power plants. These generation companies then sell this electricity power on the ERCOT balancing energy market. Retail electric companies in Tyler can then buy natural gas commodities in a paper transaction in order to create a fixed retail electricity price they can sell to the Tyler or East Texas energy consumer. Whenever you buy a fixed electricity price you are actually buying a variable electricity rate that was hedged through a paper transaction over a natural gas commodities exchange. The Tyler electricity companies selling retail electric service usually has an agreement with a company who specializes in hedging energy in order to be resold as a fixed electricity rate. This allows a Texas electricity provider and consumer to avoid any risk or exposure when power prices go up.

Tyler Commercial Real Estate

January 12th, 2010

When moving your company to East Texas and the Tyler area it is important to work with a real estate agent you can get along with and who doesn’t have that creepy fake smile thing going on. You want to have a real estate agent that is experienced but also makes you feel comfortable. I had this experience with Matthew Marshall. At the time Matthew Marshall worked as a real estate agent for Perry B. Hall but since then it appears he has moved over to a new company. Finding the right Tyler commercial real estate company allows you to take some of the stress off of the rest of the business relocation process. I was not even aware that he was a principle partner now with a new compnay. I am not surprised that he has moved up because of the great experience both me and my brother had while working with him.

Matthew is one of those agents that stays very busy but he also understands the need to go through the extra effort to look for the details his clients ask for. Some real estate agents will listen to the details you ask for and then when it comes time to delivering they just don’t come through for you. Matthew is not one of these Tyler real estate agents that only appears to deliver on his promises. Matthew Marshall will listen, research and continue to look for the details you require.

When Matthew starts to work for you in finding the right commercial property in Tyler to meet your needs he manages your requirements in with his other clients in a way that each customer gets the treatment they require in the area of, time, in person, on the phone, and in his own time researching what you need. I think everyone has run in to a used car salesman or real estate agent that just seemed to be starring blank with a fake grin and you wondered if they were even listening to what you had to say. I think you will be happy to know that Matthew is not one of these real estate agents and he will actually give you value by using him because he will be able to accomplish what you cannot by filtering through multiple listings in order to find what your looking for. He goes further by finding you the best deal on a commercial real estate building whether you plan to buy the facility or just want to lease it for a a year or more.

His real estate business is called Landbridge Commercial Properties and I think you will be very happy with his work and commercial real estate experience in the Tyler area. If you need more information my brother or I would be happy to explain over the phone some of the things he has done to go above and beyond in helping us out with our Tyler Texas commercial real estate space.

Some of the services Landbridge Commercial Properties Commercial real estate brokerage handles are, the tenant as well as the landlord side of lease transactions, brokering purchases with land, retail, commercial, industrial and investment properties. They represent the buyer or seller for commercial buildings and investment properties. They have designated people that handle land, office, retail, industrial, and multi-family investments. You can contact Matthew Marshall, CCIM at (903) 561-9527.
