Chuy's in Tyler TX

Tyler Texas keeps getting these new and great restaurants coming to town. When will it ever stop? Not that I care for it to stop but it just seems like restaurant overkill.

Chuy’s Tex-Mex Restaurant is one of those Austin Texas restaurants I remember as a kid that had a type of 1980’s flare about it.

Chuy’s opened in downtown Dallas but it didn’t last and was eventually closed. I think they found some better locations in the Dallas area since over by SMU off of I75

Chuys in my mind is better than On the Border but then again I was a kid when I ate there. I never really thought they would one day be in Tyler.

That old Brass Lion building by Lowes and Spring Creek Barbeque will be torn down and Chuys will be built in it’s place. This will give Chuys a prime location in Tyler.

I thought I would slip in this Tyler restaurant coupon discount email list you can join. We send you good solid valuable Tyler restaurant coupons and offers right to your email. Type in your email and click “Submit” and your done!

Chuys in Dallas is kind of a cool hang out place for university students and people with really colorful Cowboy boots. I am not sure what type of crowd it will attract in Tyler.

Tyler Cattle Barons Gala

June 1st, 2010

As the summer kicks off, the American Cancer Society (ACS), is kicking off its national gala season. All over the country this summer they will be holding balls, auctions and soirées to raise money for cancer research and education. Each community that holds an event picks a theme that reflects its local culture. There are luaus, crawfish boils and costume parties. Some events are formal, while others are more casual.

Every year, for twenty three years now, the ACS puts on the Tyler Cattle Barons Gala. The event has become a prestigious function in Tyler TX, one attended by much of the area glitterati. The evening’s agenda includes a silent auction, with merchandise donated by area businesses and individuals, and a concert. This year air conditioned tents will be available for those looking to duck out of the heat for a while. Previous year’s musical guests include some pretty impressive names, including Miranda Lambert, Randy Travis and Jack Ingram. This year’s musical guest is country music star Lee Ann Womack.  The Tyler Gala is the third largest of its type in Texas and is widely considered one of the best

The event will be held on June twelfth at the new Park of East Texas, also the future home of the East Texas State Fair. Tickets to the Gala are not cheap, although the proceeds go to a great cause. A pair of general admission tickets will run three hundred fifty dollars. For those who can afford them the barons couple tickets are six hundred and include early entrance to a reception with an open bar and food catered by Eddie Deen. Dress is said to include “Pearlsnap Shirts and Cowboy Boots.” For a more complete list of ticket prices, or to donate to the American Cancer Society visit the following webpage:  http://main.acsevents.org/site/TR/Gala/GalaFY10HighPlains?pg=entry&fr_id=24934. Cavenders Boot City

February 26th, 2010

Cavenders

2025 W SW Loop 323
Tyler Texas
903 561 2510

Cavenders is a Western store for men, women and children selling hats, cowboy boots, clothing and some jewellery and accessories. Cavenders is a wonderful Texas experience for the tourist and a great place to shop for the local.

As you go in, you will probably be greeted with a ‘howdy’ from the friendly staff at the checkout. The store is well laid out. On the right is the kid’s section and the men’s boots and hats. There is a huge variety and all sizes are available. Helpful assistants will find the right size for you – you have to get hat size right otherwise it will look or feel weird! Then there are shelf after shelf of boots, from the inexpensive but long lasting Justin boots to the more expensive Luccheses and others. There are boots with round toes, square toes and pointy toes, flat boots, heels, and all different colors and some different materials and trims. You will find something you like for sure.

On the front left side of the store is the ladies section – boots and clothes. You can find lots of pretty tops as well as jeans and beaded flipflops as well as cowboy boots. Behind that is the men’s clothing section – lots of Wranglers and checked shirts but a good deal of other stuff too – both work quality and going out stuff. The clothes at Cavenders in general are fairly expensive but the quality of the items stocked is really good and they will last and last.

In the middle of the store are the belts and buckles, jewellery, billfolds and so on. I love the silver jewellery they sell at Cavenders. They also have some Texas memorabilia, cards, key rings and Western style home decor items.

Service at Cavenders is polite and helpful. They will return any unworn item with a receipt and will issue giftcards if you need to exchange but haven’t time to shop. A Cavenders gift card is always a great gift by the way.

Occasionally Cavenders will have a ‘Round-up’ sale with $10 or $20 off certain brands of cowboy boots or something similar but on the whole there are not many ‘bargains’ to be found as Western fashions don’t change a great deal so the stock stays pretty consistent.

Finally, Cavenders is open until 8pm so you can shop after work. They also have a great website and you can order online. This is great for guys that wear out their clothes and just want repeat orders of the same thing!
