Joe’s Promise

October 20th, 2010

It was a few years ago that we first started to eat at the small Italian restaurant in Tyler TX, Joe’s Italian Grill. We liked the pasta, pizzas, and prices. When I was in high school a big group of us went to Joe’s Italian Grill. One person from our group wanted to order a salad and asked if they had Thousand Island salad dressing, because they did not he asked to the manager, and the waitress said that Joe, himself, was there. He came out and talked to him.

When person told him that he would love to see Joe’s restaurant offer Thousand Island, and if they did he would recommend the restaurant and would give them a lot of his business. Joe promised him that the next time he came to the restaurant he would be able to order his salad the way he wanted it. People through out the restaurant cheered and clapped for the owner. A couple weeks passed and we revisited, when someone once again ordered a salad with Thousand Island, I was surprised that they did not offer the salad dressing.

Even months later, they did not offer the dressing. Having the salad dressing was not the issue in this situation. If an owner promises his costumers to their faces and shake their hands they should keep to their word. Because of the broken promise people did not return to the restaurant.

Recently Joe’s Italian Grill opened a second restaurant just across the road. I do not really understand how they have two restaurants since every time I have gone to the original one there was hardly anyone there. I do like the food at Joe’s grill. I like how you can make your table private by letting down a curtain to exclude you from the rest of the restaurant. The shrimp tortellini is one of Joe’s best dishes, and one of the best tortellini dishes I have ever had.

I do understand why people hold this strange grudge towards Joe’s Italian Grill. If you are not going to keep your promises than do not make a guarantee that you can not keep. I will keep eating there because of the great food and I never felt like they did wrong towards me.

Tyler Movie Theaters

January 12th, 2010

Timesquare Cinema in Tyler TX
Tyler has three movie theaters. Each one differs in price, quality, cleanness, and sizes. Hollywood Theatre has 14 screens. They have not made the changes to the digital technology. I am constantly disappointed in how dirty each theater is. When I go spend $7 to go see a movie I don’t want to think what I am sitting in and why the arm rest in so greasy. I have worked back in the kitchen and it is really dirty and properly cleaned. I have been there a few times when the movie has broke and I had to sit in the theater and wait for the projectionist to get it started again. Hollywood theater is not very family friendly atmosphere. Most of the time there are people who just hangout around the building and start fights and cause trouble.

The quality of the movies are not up to date, the theaters and lobby are always dirty, and it is not a family friendly environment, although it is cheaper, I much rather prefer Carmike. Carmike theater also has 14 screens. Movies there are much more expensive than the other two theaters in Tyler Texas. All of their movies are projected digitally and not through the old film projectors that break easily and are the pictures are not as clear. The theaters are not always the cleanest, but at least I can somewhat relax, the kitchen is in sight of the costumers and seems to be kept somewhat clean. Although you have to fight the large crowds, I think Carmike is worth it for its quality alone. I think it is more family friendly than Hollywood but the large crowds does make it harder to balance the drinks, popcorn, and kids.

Carmike’s movies tend to have about 20 minutes of advertisement and previews before the actual movie starts, which can be frustrating.

If the price is a bigger issue than the quality there is the smaller theater, Times Square. It only has a few screens, so the movie that you want to see may not be playing there. Times Square’s small crowds makes the viewing experience less stressful and more personal. Time Square still gives a student discount on the price of certain show times. It keeps the previews to a minimum of a couple minutes, and gets to the movie. The quality has began to change over to the digital projection and even some of the movies are in 3D, but it still does not compare to the size and clarity of Carmike. The screens are smaller than the other two theater’s, and the rooms sit less. Times Square is usually very clean, and from a resent report, it’s seats were the cleanest under a “black light” test. It’s easy to relax when you know that the theater is being properly cleaned.

So next time you want to have a good night and go see a movie, think about what is important to you to have a fun and relaxing experience.

Wendy’s Headache

January 4th, 2010

Fast food is good for one thing, fast cheap food for the person on the go. You think that it would be very important to be accurate filling a costumer’s full order. Rarely has Wendy’s  in Tyler Texas gotten my order right with out me having to go into the store to correct their mistakes. Even if you clearly state your simple order, they still seem to not understand.

One day I went out to eat with my dad to Wendy’s as I walked up to the counter I asked a simple question, “what dressing do you have for your salads?” The question was simple enough but it was even more simple since the young man had the list of dressings right in front of him. He stumbled through every word. Not to critisize the young man but I have never heard of a dressing called “veng…van…whatever that is”. If an employee cannot read the menu leave them to flip the patties.

One of the best things about Wendy’s is the famous frosty. Being such a popular menu item you would think that it would be available, at the Lindale Wendy’s (right off the interstate) seems like it’s ice cream machine is always out of order. But this little issue is just one of the many things wrong with this fast food store. The employees are extremely rude. More accounts than one have I been gripped at because they did not get my order right. I have worked at places that I did not want to work, and dreaded going to work as much as the next guy, but you smile and be polite, and don’t take your issues out on costumers.

I have found that every once in awhile you can get something that tastes somewhat like food at Wendy’s. I despise the service and attitude at this fast food chain its ridiculous! I know each store should be different with a different attitude, but some how it’s the over-all attitude of the food chain.

If you are trying to get your food and go on your way, I would skip Wendy’s. If you want what you ordered without headache and without having to go into the store to correct their mistakes about three different times, Wendy’s is not your restaurant.
