Like everyone else I’ve seen the television ads for the Dyson fan and wondered how the thing works without fan blades. My cousin and I were recently discussing this very thing when we decided to do a little research on the topic.
After visiting a few customer reviews we discovered that there are in fact blades contained in the fan’s base. The air is simply channeled up through the round “air foil.” A couple of days later I examined a display model at my local Home Depot. The commercials have often described the noise generated by a conventional fan as unsettling. “The blades buffet the air creating a pulse, but the Dyson fan creates a constant stream of air…” or something along those lines. Sorry to say the noise level (if that bothers you), is about the same as a conventional, less sexy, general market fan. The air put out by the Dyson fan is not too bad, also about the same as her more average cousins. The Dyson fan is not a scam. For the most part it does what the manufacturer says it does. But nor is it, in my opinion, as cool as they imply either. There’s really no new method of moving air, as the design would seem to suggest. So what’s the draw? Well obviously its aesthetics. The Dyson fan looks like something you’d see sitting on Captain Picard’s desk, particularly the mat grey model with the blue air foil. But good looks are costly. The price on most models has come down to around three hundred dollars… yes down. So you’re looking at paying more than ten times the price of a more plain Jane Wal-Mart fan.
At the end of the day the Dyson fan is a cool product, however how much is your average consumer willing to pay for cool? As for me I’ll stick to my old school oscillating fan that I paid about twenty dollars for, even if it is unsettling.

Over the past year and a half or so, we at the Tyler Directory have made a modest living writing about the energy jewelry craze. Interestingly enough despite endless criticism both on the internet as well as in some courts their popularity seems to be at an all time high. The manufacturer “irenew,” continues to wage an advertising offensive on the television audience led by pitchman Art Edmonds.
I’m finding that my animosity for this company is increasing by the minute. I’m still amazed and appalled by how it’s grown since I first became aware of it a year ago. Lately they’ve even had a label on the Suddenlink digital menu. With the advent of DVRs, viewers simply zip through traditional commercials. But by pasting an ad directly on the menu screen, company labels are always in front of an audience. Now I have actually come to like my suddenlink service, but I do wish the cable giant wouldn’t lower itself and its standards by raising irenew to the appearance of legitimacy by carrying their labels. I realize business is business, and advertisers pay good money for those slots, but I just prefer to see charlatans like these ones selling their wares from the back of a horse drawn carriage rather than marketing to a national audience.

If you have ever watched news on the East Texas local television station, you know Gillian Sheridan. Though there are many rumors of her department from ABC’s news station, she now dwells at CBS’s news station KYTX. I don’t really care why she left channel seven, and I think that channel 19 doesn’t care either since their ratings have gone up since she moved over.
She claims on commercials that CBS cares more. I mean they even have a program called CBS19 Cares. They advertise for all different opportunities to give back to the community and different programs to help the people of East Texas live happier and healthier lives.
They advertise for events for people recovering from death in the family to people trying to loose weight. It is a great way to see if there are events or groups that can be encouraging to you no matter what you are going through. It is also a great opportunity for the people of east Texas to get involved and help others out.
CBS claims to be the “eye of East Texas”. I think who ever came up with this slogan saw The Lord of the Rings a few to many times. Though this can be taken in a pretty creepy way, I guess that they mean they offer breaking news fast. In that sense, yes they do.
While the tragic burning of the churches of East Texas was happening earlier this year, I watched CBS every night to keep up with what was going on. I am very grateful to the police department that finally arrested the young boys that burning them down, due to the fact that the church I grew up in is now not much more than a pile of ashes.
I was able to know what exactly was happening to the boys while they were on trial. CBS allowed me to get accurate information that I really was interested in.
CBS news has done some weird things to get viewers, like have a ditzy blonde read the news and made a reality show about it. Which really upset me because the reality show portrayed Tyler to be dirty and the people to be not more than a bunch of hicks.
Finally they are getting more viewers thanks to the fact that CBS cares, or maybe because of a new member to the news anchor team.

As a child, I grew up watching my father try to create a production company called Glow in the Dark Creative Media. In the beginning, he and his business partner lacked personnel, social connections, and money for nice equipment. Time after time, the business was turned down for jobs due to lack of experience. I felt bad for him when he came home from a long week of work, and still had little business coming in. Some years were financially harder than others, but dad never lost hope and always worked hard. The lack of funds made hiring employees nearly impossible. Most of the time my father and his business partner had to do double, even triple the work in order to get things done, but all the hard labor and diligence slowly began to pay off.
Over the years, dad gained more and more knowledge about media, editing, and advertisement; as his knowledge grew, so did his business and clientele. Dad’s creativity and work ethic drew more clients to the business. Finally after five or six years, dad was able to hire his first employees. The workers helped to complete projects more quickly, but at times it made finances even tighter. This made yet another difficult situation, but as time progressed and through even more work, this problem was also solved. Dad taught and still teaches all of his employees how to master each job required for media production. The business’ clientele began to grow and new jobs poured in. Initially, the business only filmed football games and weddings, but they have since branched out and began filming commercials, promotional videos, music videos, and even local movies. Word has spread about the business, and the small company is currently receiving job offers from out of state. Now with nearly a decade’s worth of experience, more employees, and updated equipment, Dad’s small, yet productive, business still continues to grow to this day.

Pancakes, eggs and bacon for dinner? Or steak and fries for breakfast? At the International House Of pancakes (IHOP) you get the freedom of choice.
Most of the times I have gone to IHOP there is a line out the door. The “A” shaped building is a land mark for fresh, thick, fluffy pancakes. The obnoxious commercials stick with you, so when you are in the mood for the stuffed French toast with strawberries and cool whip, you know to go straight to your town’s IHOP.
You never quite know what kind of service you will get from IHOP. I was impressed the most resent time I visited the breakfast paradise, when our waitress remembered our table’s entire order with out writing it down. I do not think I could remember one person’s order, no less a party of six. There have been other times that I have gone there and have had terrible services, when the waiter forgot have our orders or took forever to bring the food out.
IHOP has added so many items onto their already long menu. They have been advertising the dinner items. I prefer to enjoy the wonderful breakfast items rather than the less than decent dinner items. Watch for great deals, and new delicious food. One of the most famous breakfast deals in Tyler is IHOP’s unending pancakes. On each table there is a delicious selection of fruit or hazelnut or maple syrup.
When I go to IHOP, I usually get the same thing and I am always satisfied with my meal. IHOP does not just have a long menu, great prices and good food, but you always get your money’s worth. Meals are huge served with a large side of eggs made your way, and bacon or sausage, and a huge pile of hash browns. I don’t think I have ever finished eating a meal there.
So stop by and enjoy a coffee and a huge breakfast, anytime of the day, and since it is opened 24 hours, anytime of the night.
