Tyler and Lindale Agree on How Best to Grow

August 1st, 2011

Ok admittedly this is not a terribly new story, but I’m only just now getting to writing on it, so readers will have to please bear with me as it’s an important story for our area. Representatives from Tyler and Lindale met in June and hammered out an agreement between the two cities which defined their Extra Territorial Jurisdictions (ETJ). The ETJ is the surrounding area outside the city limits into which the city anticipates it will grow. Tyler’s ETJ is obviously larger (about five miles) than that of its sister city (about one mile) due to its size. The primary reason for the agreement is that both communities anticipate good growth along highway 69 and interstate 20. The continued expansion of loop 49 is also expected to help spur growth. The “treaty” will allow both towns to grow in such away, that they can reap the maximum benefit from their proximity to the important freeways. As they grow into their ETJs the border (Tyler’s northern and Lindale’s southern), will be defined more or less permanently.

For a more detailed report on the story visit the City of Tyler’s webpage at http://www.cityoftyler.org/Home/tabid/36/ctl/NewsArticle/mid/865/CategoryID/10/NewsID/1378/Default.aspx .

K2 is Apparently a Synthetic Marijuana

September 28th, 2010

Da Hippie

This new thing called K2 has something in it that makes it a synthetic form of marijuana.

It supposedly can create the same types of effects as smoking a joint and because of this it has been banned in the city limits of cities like Tyler and Bullard Texas.

K2 is being sold outside the city limits of Tyler in gas stations and hippie type shops, hmmm…cough… Da Hippie.

When questioning if this leafy like substance can be smoked like pot you will likely be told, “It’s an incense for smelling but not for smoking, but off the record you can smoke this sh$&.

So right here in the Bible belt pot is somewhat legal in our backyard. Sure it has kind of snuck in through a sidedoor called incense but it’s here.

There are many knock offs out there called K2 that do nothing more for you than if you smoked oregano.

So we have this substance available while pot is illegal. It seems odd but pot is here in Tyler Texas and people are smoking it legally.

What is your opinion on this incense known as K2? Leave comments below.

Pets and Friends, LLC – Pet Funeral Home, Crematory

February 1st, 2010

Pets and Friends

They also have a Gym and Post Office
Monday – Friday 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

2979 Highway 110 North
Tyler, TX 75704
903-526-7400

I think this small family-owned and operated business deserves an award for how many different services they offer. You were probably thinking that you misread the title of this post. It is no joke.

Pets and Friends in Tyler Texas

Pets and Friends Store

They are truly a pet funeral home and crematory that also sells pet food and supplies. They have a work out gym for women, and they are a fully functioning United States Post Office. And on top of it all, they are amazing.

Pets and Friends is a clear example of the beauty of East Texas culture. It is located just one mile outside of Loop 323 on 110 North right outside the Tyler city limits. With warm smiles and cheerful words you are essentially embraced the moment you walk into the door of this local business. You might even be greeted by one of their friendly and well behaved pets that stay behind the counter. It seems that even their other customers are all infected by the niceness. The workers really create the feeling of an old timey general store or even that of a family.

Their main service is one that I haven’t witnessed or experienced in anyway. That is, they do cremations of your pets. They are really focused on taking care of the people who face a real loss when their pet dies as though they lost a family member. They really care for individuals and their pets, and it is obvious from the first time you meet them. These cremations range from about fifty dollars to two hundred and seventy dollars depending mostly on the size of the animal and then on whether or not you’ll bring the pet home in an urn. They also offer a fairly large variety of more special wooden or porcelain chests and urns for additional cost.

The gym is a workout center for women. It appears to be a similar setup to Curves. It has several cardio machines as opposed to weights and strength building machines. There are usually a few women there, so it seems that it must be useful. They also have nice happy music playing always in there.

The business does have a decent sized retail area. It is all pet supplies. They have dog and cat food. I think I even saw sugar glider food. They have a huge section of collars and leashes of all sizes and colors. They can make customized name tags. All around the walls there are tons of t-shirts with animals on them, so you can wear a shirt to support your love for beagles or even your favorite breed of horse. They also have some of the most impressive looking dog and cat fur removers that run about seventy dollars a piece.

Pets and Friends Store Hours

As for price, it seems that the prices on some items can be a little higher than the big stores, but the service, atmosphere and convenience make up for it completely.

My single reason for frequently visiting this place is for their small version of a post office. This is definitely Tyler’s best kept secret! I almost don’t want to tell you, because I don’t want it to become overwhelmed with business. But if you’ve read this far, you deserve it. Pets and Friends is a full functioning postal service. They can ship letters and packages of all sizes to anywhere in the world. And the experience is absolutely nothing like a standard government run post office. There is never a line more than one or two people. I think I may have once waited for five minutes while they finished mailing someone’s package. The employees are beyond nice and helpful. I recently had to mail out over three hundred and fifty large envelope letters to countries all around the world. They worked it out for me so that I could drop them off in the morning and come back and pay later after they had weighed and stamped each one. They trusted me with what would be a bill of almost six hundred dollars. They sell packaging materials and all kinds of seasonal and forever stamps. This business really does amaze me. I have several close friends who will only use this small company to ship, and it’s because of the same reason. No one wants to wait in line at a traditional post office, and these people win our loyalty through their kindness and warm personalities.

If you want to make your life easier and a little happier, do your shipping at Pets and Friends. Or don’t, and just leave the convenience to my friends and me. I’ll keep going as long as I live in Smith County.

East Texas Wifi Internet Service Provider

Choices Among Internet Providers in Tyler Texas

If you are like me and live out in the country you don’t have as many choices as someone living in the city limits of Tyler. There are a lot of things that I don’t have the privilege of doing without paying more money such as having a fast internet connection and going to the Tyler Public Library. Both of these things I will end up paying much more for than the average Tyler Texas joe living in the city limits. For those inside the city you can go with Suddenlink cable internet or AT&T highspeed internet service.

There are now even more internet options available for those in and outside the city of Tyler Texas than there has been for many years. There are these highspeed wireless PC cards offered by all the major cell phone carriers that allow you to plug a PC card into your laptop or desktop computer and have a fairly fast wireless internet service. The downside to the PC card wireless access is if you go over your usage limit you could be charged as high as 25 cents per megabyte. Those megabytes go pretty quick especially if you watch Youtube videos or download software.

Best Deal On Wireless Internet PC Card Service In Tyler

As far as cell phone wireless internet PC card service the best deal in Tyler is probably with Sprint although their coverage is spotty out in the country. The fastest and pretty good coverage in and outside the city of Tyler is with Verizon. Verizon will charge you 25 cents per megabyte if you go over your usage limit which is why I no longer use this company. Sprint only charges 5 cents per megabyte if you go over their limit however they also have an unlimited usage plan for a little more money.

Which Wireless Internet PC Card I Prefer The Most

AT&T’s wireless internet PC card goes by the name aircard and offers great speeds and coverage in the city of Tyler although the coverage gets a little spotty depending on where in the country you may be living in Smith County. Overall I prefer the speed of Verizon wireless internet PC card, the price and coverage of the Sprint wireless PC card, and enjoy the speed and coverage of AT&T’s aircard provided you use it within the city of Tyler and not out in the country.

Best Choice For Wireless Internet in Tyler Texas

For an even faster wireless internet outside the city limits of Tyler I recommend going with a wifi service that broadcasts from tower antennas. There is a company by the name of East Texas Wifi that I use and I love the service, low latency and internet speed they offer. There is another wireless internet company that competes with them called DCTexas Internet and they also boast some very fast speeds and low latency. Low latency simply means that any downloads you do will be very quick. If you were to compare the latency of a satellite internet service as you would get with Hughes net it would be a night and day difference. For instance, if you attempted to watch a funny youtube video with Hughes net you might as well queue it up and go eat a sandwich before it will be ready. With East Texas Wifi you will be able to watch the movie immediately almost as if you turned on TV to watch a show you like.

Stay Away From Hughes.net Satelite Internet Service!

WARNING!!! If you live in Tyler Texas or around the area avoid Hughes net at all costs! They will have you commit to a contract while wireless internet service companies like East Texas wifi will put you on a month to month plan. Once you are locked into the Hughes net contract you will quickly discover that the internet service is very slow and reminiscent of old dial up service back in the olden days. You will pay a high price for this lousy internet service too. It simply is not worth it and everyone I have spoken with about Hughesnet in Tyler have told me just how much they hate their internet service.
