WalMart Confusion

August 2nd, 2010

When I walk into Tyler’s Wal-Mart, on the corner of the Loop and highway 64, I am greeted by a group of strange men just hanging out by the entrance. I get sick of these groups of guys that shout at woman to get their numbers. I can not believe girls would actually give these guys their numbers.

As I walk through the dirty store that always seems like the floor is sticky, I get run into a bunch of little kids running through the store with no parents in sight. I get frustrated and walk down to get a tube of toothpaste. As I grab a tube of tooth paste, a shirt is stuffed behind it. I go to get a few groceries and grab something to eat at the Deli.

Some woman sell barbeque chicken chunks with flies flying all around. Some chicken falls on the greasy dirty counter and they just grabbed it up and threw it back in the container with all the other food. I was really grossed out and decided not to eat there. There is a McDonalds connected to this Wal-Mart. I don’t think I would ever eat there.

It always looks really dirty and really greasy. This Wal-Mart is known to be very dangerous and be very careful if you go there, especially at night, when really strange people can not find a better place to hang out at 11:00 at night.

It seems like some of the most stuck up people drive around the Wal-Mart off of Broadway. I always get cut off while walking into the store. One time a car was waiting for me to load my bags of groceries into the car put my two babies into the car seats and buckle them in and put my cart away, just so they could get my spot.

I was trying to hurry to be nice and they kept honking and when I looked up at the driver I noticed that they were signaling for me to hurry up. Excuse me? They should just go find another place. Oh, and by the way, please do not park in the pregnancy parking unless you are pregnant.

So I hate going there because of all the rude people that shop there. But there isn’t any other Wal-Mart that is so convenient. I can just go right across the street to Target, or stay in the same parking lot and enjoy a great burger at Whataburger. The store inside is a lot cleaner than the Wal-Mart I formally talked of, but it always is so crowded.

Every time I go to check out it seems like they have about twenty lanes and maybe five are open. So there will be at least ten people in front of you with their baskets over flowing with stuff. So Wal-Mart, open a few more check-outs, will you?

My very favorite Wal-Mart in Tyler is the newest one on Troop Highway. It is the furthest for me but I think it is worth the drive. It is the largest Wal-Mart in Tyler and always the most orderly. The food always seems so much cleaner and even the people are nicer. The parking lot is larger so people can find their own parking space and don’t have to be so rude to park.

They have great furniture for babies. It is easy to register here because everything so organized compared to the other ones. The people are nicer because they don’t feel cramped into and over crowded store with rude strangers. The greeter is even nicer. Which I think greeters are so funny. What a great job. They are called “greeters” but honestly,  how often do they really greet you. Its like security. Security from all those strange pathetic people that shop lift. But that is off the point I am trying to make.

Troop Wal-Mart greeters actually tell people hello. But I don’t think they deal with as much shop lifting as the Wal-Mart off of highway 64. There is always police there. So if you need to go to Wal-Mart go to Troop, even if it is out of the way. They always seem to have more lanes open so it takes a lot less time to come in and get out.

I’m not the biggest fan of Wal-Mart, not like I use to be. But it is the one stop for all your needs and the prices are amazing. I can ever leave the store with out first checking out the five dollar movie rack, or the three dollar sales in the baby clothes section. Wal-Mart has a policy that they will not be under sold, so you are sure to find what you need or want at a  great price.

You will find everything for every room in your house and for your car. If you need a new bed spread or a new rug, if you need new furniture or television, you will always find it at Wal-Mart. Keep your eyes open for the seasonal selection at great prices and when it starts to becomes out of season look for amazing sales.

Have fun shopping with your kids in their toys section, I always have to take a walk down the pink aisle just to see what is new and what is on sale. So shop Wal-Mart to find off-brand and brand names at a great price, “always”.

Jack O’ Diamonds in Tyler

July 2nd, 2010

When shopping for cars the most annoying thing about the shopping experience is definitely the salesmen. I hate that the moment you drive into the Jack O’ Diamonds parking lot you are immediately bombarded by men trying to get you to buy a car before you even have a chance to park.

We have been looking around for a car lately, and decided to hold our breath and deal with the annoying salesmen at Jack O’ Diamonds. They have cars in all sizes. It is a great place to look if you want a car for your family that gets more than 15 gallons of gas per a mile.

The car lot has many different makes of cars for sale. You can buy Lincoln, Mercury, Honda, and even can find a few Fords there. Personally I love the look and make of a Honda. We came looking for a car that was able to fit more than two car seats and that would not empty our wallets because of the horrible gas mileage.

Not to our surprise we were immediately approached by a salesman before we were able to park. They asked questions before we were even able to get out of the car or get our children out. Once we really explained that we wanted all these things at a price that would fit our low budget, the salesman was extremely helpful, and surprisingly was not pushing us to get way over our budget.

He showed us a few cars that were exactly what we were looking for, but we needed to discuss the purchase a little bit longer before we went ahead and bought the car. We were very impressed by how the salesman was not extremely pushing to make the decision and respected our need to sleep on it.

Although we did not purchase a car that day we will be going back in hopes that we get the same car salesman and find the car perfect for us. Finding a car is extremely stressful and I think that sales men should help you make a choice and not put more pressure on you that are unnecessary.

Sadly, usually the salesmen are more pushing and frustrating at Jack O’ Diamonds. Even as we were leaving, another salesman yelled after us, asking why we did not find what we were looking for. Hopefully if you are looking for a Tyler car you will have the luck we had!

Target in Tyler Texas

January 4th, 2010

Target

I may be a little partial toward Target as I am writing this, because I love the Target shopping experience. When you go to Target you may not be get as good of a price as if you were shopping at Wal-Mart. I can be guaranteed to get great brand names and great quality. I am pretty frustrated that Tyler does not have a Target shopping center, and only one Target store.

Target has some of the cutest little children’s clothes. Although the baby/toddle boy clothes are very few, the boy clothes have a great and stylish selection. As the season change find all you need for this up and coming winter. Find great brand name for assurance that you are getting the best quality for your money.

Target has great selections of men’s clothes for whatever your taste is. No matter the style, Target has clothes for all events or just every day prices. Also look at for Target for great work and sporting shoes.

At some stores it seems impossible to find the style of clothing that you like in the right size, but at Target you can always find beautiful selections in your size. Target also has great designs when you are expecting. You can find maternity jackets as the weather begins to become cold and you can find cute maternity bathing suits for those extremely hot Texan days.

Though the infant boy’s clothes selection is pretty limited, Target has a rather large selection for a little girl. They have great prices and wonderful sales. Target in Tyler Texas also has brand names and beautiful styles for every season of the year. Target is a bit more expensive that its neighboring competition, Wal-Mart. Target has beautiful bedding, cribs, car seats, high chairs and anything else you could need to be ready to welcome your new baby into the world. As your kid grows find great selection for your young toddler, such as gates and a training potty. Look for the developmental toys for your young child and bedding to match your child’s themed room.

If you are expecting and love the Target baby brand names, register. Target makes the register easy and simple to read. Also out of town friends can look at your registry online and at other stores.

If your big wedding day is approaching, you can find all the needs for your new house! Wedding registry is also available online or in the store. You can find beautiful kitchen appliances. Make your first home as a married couple your own with tasteful furniture, beautiful lamps, mirrors, wall clocks and so much more. Make your bathroom show your designer tastes with Target’s large selection of bathroom appliances.

Check out the great collection on televisions, video games, movies and music. In my opinion you can always find better prices on televisions at Wal-Mart and Target selection in very limited. Though the television selection is very limited, the video selection is very organized and plentiful. So instead of going to other stores and digging elbow deep into a giant box of movies, walk through aisles and pick through the organized displays of new releases, oldies, family, and even television show seasons.

If you are clothes shopping at Target and start to feel a little hungry, Target sells snacks and some frozen meals. The Target in Tyler has very little food, so I don’t recommend doing your grocery shopping here. But you will be able to pick up all your household needs, such as dish and laundry soap, toilet paper, and diapers. Also you will be able to get all your bath soap and shampoo, and all and all brand names makeup.

So find all your wants and needs here at Target and be sure to get great quality and brand names. Even though the prices may not be as good as many of their competitor’s prices, but their quality and the neatness of the store makes the shopping experiences easy and enjoyable.

Child Seat Safety Laws in Tyler Texas

December 8th, 2009

There have been new changes in the car seat safety laws. Most citizens from Tyler know about the old law of having to be at least 5 years or at least 36 inches tall. But there has not been too much information given out to Tyler parents about the new law of a child being at least 8 years old to ride in a car without a car seat or booster seat.

If your child is under age 8, then yes he or she needs to be in a car seat. This is the Texas State Law now, not just a recommendation but the law. Violation of this law is a misdemeanor and you can receive a fine of up to $250. The child needs to be restrained in the car seat during operation of the vehicle.

There are different types of car seats for different stages that your child grows through. First of all there’s the infant car seat, which is for infants from birth to 22 pounds. The infant car seat should be at a 45 degree angle and is rear facing only. The next stage is the toddler car seat. This car seat is usually for children up to 65 pounds. The toddler car seats are forward facing with a harness. There is a transition car seat that can be used for an infant and a toddler car seat which may be more affordable. The next car seat, which may be what you need to go buy for your older child that is not quite 8 yet, is the booster seat. The booster seat is for school aged children up to about 90 pounds.  The booster seat raises the child up so he or she fits properly in the seat belt. If the seat belt does not fit properly your child can be severely harmed in a car crash from the seat belt itself, which is probably why the Texas law changed to children under age 8 being in a car seat. Remember that a car seat should always be in the backseat which is the safest place for children.

An infant carrier should never be used as a bed. A recent study has shown that when newborns sleep in a car seat that it can cause mild repertory problems (in one out of five newborns) and they don’t receive the proper amount of oxygen.  So only use the car seat while traveling and never use it for your infant’s bed all night long.

Check to make sure there hasn’t been a recall on your car seat. Many companies have been manufacturing car seats so that they are more affordable to the average family. But I think as a result some of the car seats were not made very sturdy. For an example Evenflo recalled one of their car seats after 679 reports were filed, because it wasn’t manufactured correctly resulting in infants skulls being fractured, concussions, wrongful death etc.  Evenflo has many safe car seats as well as Graco (I use both of these brands) but be sure your car seat has not been recalled or expired. Expired, you ask? Yes, every car seat has an expiration date (should be on the bottom) and should not be used after the expiration date.

If your child has been killed or injured as a result of a malfunctioned car seat then call a Tyler attorney. You may have grounds for filing a products liability lawsuit. Tyler has some of the best attorneys in Texas and they work hard for you. I’m sure no parent wants to go through a lawsuit after their child has been hurt but it is important that the truth be revealed about unsafe car seats and a Tyler attorney will help you all the way.
