Super Bowl Grub

January 31st, 2014

The time around Super Bowl Sunday is kind of a bitter sweet feeling. Like everybody else, I obviously love the game and seeing who finishes the year on top of the world. On the other hand however, it’s kind of a sad deal because it means football season is coming to an end.

However, there are many ways to squeeze out ever last bit of enjoyment as we possibly can out of the Super Bowl, and as always, there are places all throughout Tyler that make this easier.

I’m a strong believer that the best Super Bowl Party is with a small group of friends who want to watch the game and not necessarily the commercials, and of course a lot of food.

It’s a scientific fact that you can’t go wrong with wings, so why not stop by Wing Stop or other places in Tyler, or go pick up some from Brookshires or one of the many other grocery stores.

If you go the wings route, you can stop by Buffalo Wild Wings because you know they’ll be hosting a great Super Party there. If you prefer the comfort of your own home though, that’s more than understandable.

Super Bowl Sunday is the biggest pizza selling day of the year and there are no shortages of pizza locations. Maybe you want to consider Pappa Johns, after all, one of its spokesman will be lining up under center in the Super Bowl.

My Favorite Tyler Pizza Place

September 5th, 2012

As a big sports fan, I typically prefer to watch my teams from the comfort of my own living room. This way, I can pause and rewind the games, get up and come back as I please without missing anything and not have to worry about where I’m at and who’s around to hear and see me react when something good or bad happens.

However, there are two alternatives for places to go other than home to watch the game in Tyler. The first is at Buffalo Wild Wings and the second is Double Daves Pizzaworks.

It’s no-wonder why Double Dave’s slogan is “Wings, beer, sports.” When you go, you’re paying for good food and a great atmosphere.

The best time to go to Buffalo Wild Wings is during football season on a Sunday afternoon. Every TV (and they have many) is tuned to one of the many NFL games and you don’t have to miss a thing. When one game is one a commercial break, you can simply turn your head and watch another game since you have several options.

Another slogan for Buffalo Wild Wings is “You have to be here,” and you’re a sports fan, it’s an atmosphere you have to experience at least once. Pick a game, any game. It can be your favorite team playing or the prime time game of the week.

While you’re there try out the many flavors of wings, beer and sports (sure, sports can have a favor, you just have to be there to experience it.)

Double Dave’s is one also on my list for favorite places to go to watch the game and eat. If you’re talking favorite overall place, it comes in third, after my living room and Buffalo Wild Wings.

The best time to go to Double Dave’s is during lunch for the buffet but honestly, there’s no wrong time. The pepperoni rolls are incredible and unlike anything else you’ve ever had and they have a wide range of different types of pizza, and of course, big screen TVs showing the biggest game taking place. What’s not to like?

As football season approaches, something to consider is to go during a Sunday or Monday night game. That’ll really make you ready.

Being married to a dedicated sports fan, having young toddlers, and being a dedicated fan of pretty much any popular reality show, the arguing of what show to watch gets pretty ridiculous, and the DVR quickly fills up with shows you forget to delete.

But in my journey for answers for our issue, I came to realize that I am not the only person with this problem. Men are always forced to watch our movies and television shows. Women are annoyed at their husbands yelling at the television set and trying to chest bump the kids.

Why not send your husband somewhere that he can watch the game with other chest bumping crazed men?

At Buffalo Wild Wings the restaurant is covered wall to wall with giant television screens. I felt sorry for the company when Tyler started the smoking ban. The restaurant had a great idea for the issues of second hand smoke, two separate rooms.

People that smoke don’t have their rights taken away and people that do not smoke do not have to breathe it. But I will digress from declaring my personal opinions of human rights.

They have a great bar in the separated room. The two rooms are separated by a glass wall. The bar is great to hang out with your friends and they even have a couple arcade games.

But besides the drinks and full bar, video games, and large televisions, Buffalo Wild Wings has pretty good food. It definitely is not the best buffalo wings in town (if you are looking for the best wings in town, in my opinion, Wing Stop tops them all); but no matter they still are very satisfying and there is a great selection of sauces and meats. Have your own choice of boneless, or mild or honey barbeque.

If you are planning to go to Buffalo Wild Wings on a day that there is a big game, I recommend that you get there early because that small building gets full really fast. Also sit by the door because if you are trying to leave during the game you may have to climb over people, or at least feel like you are climbing over people.

I never have had an issue or a compliment about the service at the Tyler Buffalo Wild Wings, but I have had the worse service that I have ever had at any restaurant in my life, at the restaurant in Longview, about a year ago. Since my family and I had to endure that horrible service we are yet to return to the Longview restaurant.

I really recommend Buffalo Wild Wings in Tyler to meet up with friends and get a drink. But do not expect the best wings in the world there, but expect to make memories with your friends, and have a great time.

Buffalo Wild Wings in Tyler TX

When it comes to sports bars in the tyler area, my list starts and ends with Buffalo Wild Wings. In a dry county it is becoming increasingly harder to watch a ball game drinking a beer on my couch in my home. Beer runs on a sunday often have me coming in after the first half is already over. So I’ve adopted a new tradition of enjoying football games in the comfort of my local buffalo wild wings.

There is a variety of sauces that make a simple selection of a plate of wings an exciting new choice every trip I make, so I’ve come to enjoy the taste of their reasonably priced wings and throwing back a couple of drinks to the sound of cheers and taunts as everyone watches the cowboys game. Although there will be other games and sports showing on seperate tvs, be prepared for the Cowboys game to take precidence over say the Detroit Lions.

Do not expect to go to Buffalo Wild Wings dressed as your favorite figure skater expecting to watch the figure skating championship I’ve found that not to be a good idea. This is after all a man’s sports club. For those too cheap to pay for cable and wish to still see their favorite game this is the perfect place for it. Buffalo Wild Wings will often charge cover charges for pay per view fights and other events hosted. The food quality is good and I can’t say I’ve ever had a problem with the service, the true problem comes in the fact that it is treated like a restaurant by the employees, so delaying a 45 minute meal into two and a half hours to watch the whole game, becomes a bit of a hassle.

With the amount of beer guzzling that is often associated with football, Buffalo Wild Wings has surprisingly few drunks. If you are just in the mood for wings swing by, you may be charged just to get a table, so take caution to only go when you are certain there’s not a big fight or a bowl game going on. The quality of the wings rival that of their competitors Wing Stop and prices are even as well. Since the prices are low making the transition from your monotaneous life to a crowd that makes you feel like you are at the game can easily become a tradition. So the next time you are in the mood for a plate full of juicy wings and want to take in a relaxing boxing match or ball game, stop by Buffalo Wild Wings.
