What to do about Willie?

November 27th, 2010

What to do about Willie? And of course I’m referring to Willie Nelson. The iconic country singer was arrested in the west Texas town of Sierra Blanca, for what? Marijuana possession of course! The arrest took place Friday morning just over two weeks prior to his stop here in Tyler on December eleventh. Of course he posted a twenty- five hundred dollar bail and went on his way, but I doubt the incident will serve as any kind of wake- up call for the seventy seven year old musician.

The arrest brought a lot of criticism to our state, by readers and bloggers, who found Nelson’s arrest ridiculous and harassing. It’s my guess they must have been California readers. Look I’ll admit I’m torn. Telling Willie not to smoke pot is akin to telling a Kennedy to remain monogamous. It’s really for the best, but will he do it? Please… I have this vision of the country legend lighting up about a mile down the road from the police station after his release. That may be cynical, but it’s also very possible.

So what to do with Willie? According the article I read his arrest took place about nine in the morning when the office in question smelled smoke coming off the bus. Of course that particular bus is probably so saturated that the relatively uninitiated like myself, could get high on the preexisting fumes. Listen California. Please allow me to explain since many of you don’t seem to understand. We Texans are very much into personal liberties like keeping what we make, living where we want or protecting ourselves, our families and what we own. We’re generally not comfortable with widespread chemical addiction. I know Austin… I know… but for the most part we are generally conservative folks.

In the case of Willie Nelson I suggest that he spend the majority of his time in an atmosphere that allows him to pursue his… hobbies and interests, and only really venture out for concert appearances etc. When outside the commune participating in those aforementioned activities is taking chances but those are his to take. Just don’t get mad at us if he lands in hot water from time to time.

This whole story and subsequent discussion, coincides with Mr. Nelson’s visit to Tyler, which is rapidly approaching. I actually really enjoy his music and would certainly attend the concert given the opportunity. Here’s to hoping he can stay out of trouble long enough make it here. Best Buy Day After Thanksgiving Day Sale, Black Friday Line

November 24th, 2010

For the last few years I see this line that develops outside of Best Buy each year because Best Buy offers some pretty ridiculous deals on game consoles, TV’s and other such items.

Well this year I happened to spot the very first person setting up his tent outside Best Buy for this sale.

Hi name is Jacob Johnson and I was able to talk to him for a little bit as well as a grand tour of his tent setup outside Best Buy.

He has a flat screen TV, gaming consoles, tethering devices to play video games with all his friends and family that are hanging out with him.

Best Buy in Tyler TX Black Friday Sale First in Line

He plans to break up his time in the tent in shifts with the rest of his family. Last year he was in line for the Best Buy black Friday sale but he was all the way back near Petsmart.

This year being first in line he will be able to get some amazing deals. Best Buy has been known to give TV’s, game consoles, laptops and other high priced items away for $25 – $50 bucks that may originally go for $500 – $1500.

Jacob plans to spend about $2500 and likes getting in line at Best Buy because of the orderly way the store employees let people come in.

Each person in line ends up getting a number and certain rules are in place to prevent mob like behavior during the holidays from erupting.

I remember when mom’s, dad’s, grandmothers and others would fight to the death over cabbage patch kid dolls back when I was a kid.

I am thankful that my parents never bought me a doll like this as a kid but instead gave me GI Joes and Heman figures.

Let’s all hope and pray that this black Friday in Tyler Texas is safe for everyone and offers an orderly fair and safe way to purchase amazing deals at places like Best Buy, Wal-Mart, Sears, Game Stop, the Mall and other great shopping centers in Tyler.

Best Buy Day After Thanksgiving Day Sale

November 26th, 2009

Best Buy Day After Thanksgiving Day Sale Line
My mom and dad live very close to Best Buy in Tyler TX so I will definitely be driving by there and will have to make a drive by to see just how many people will be camped outside the store this year. A few years ago my dad bought some emachines and wii’s from Best Buy and made a handsome $800 profit on everything he resold on Ebay. My dad did not get in line right after Thanksgiving dinner but he did get in line around 4 a.m. People are now getting in line at Best Buy as early as right now. You heard me right. There are probably people already in line, sitting on a couch, camping in a tent at Best Buy at 10:20 AM Nov 26 2009. Can you imagine being in line this long to buy a TV or Wii? I couldn’t handle it but the fact of the matter is that is no longer what most of these people do. There are shifts in which a few people will go in together to buy a lot of merchandise. They will stay in line in shifts and trade out every few hours. This way everyone gets their sleep and no one completely wastes their Thanksgiving day.

I asked the Best Buy security guy in the Tyler TX location if there were any rules when getting in line for the day after Thanksgiving day sale. He said the only rule was to, “be nice”. If ever there was a day to be nice I would think Thanksgiving day would be that day. I hope everyone behaves and is kind while nudging themselves in line, it is Thanksgiving don’t you know?

So I will not be at the Day After Thanksgiving sale at Best Buy this year which is my normal tradition but I will be driving by with my camera to take pictures of the phenomenon which is my weird traditional thing to do on Thanksgiving along with eating Turkey and watching football.

I wonder if people will be able to sell Playstations and Wii game consoles on ebay this year at inflated prices. So far it has been done for the last 3 – 5 years so I don’t see why it will not be the same this year. This type of profiteering reminds me of that “The Office” episode when Dwight bus up all the unicorn toys and sells them at 500 % above retail.

I will be posting my picture of the Best Buy line later on tonight after I have settled down from a big Thanksgiving day feast.
