Ulta Beauty Supply in Tyler TX

July 27th, 2011

If you are looking for the best selection of makeup, hair products, and perfumes, the best option is that you will find everything at Tyler’s new Ulta store. Once you walk through the door you are hit with the strong mixes of smells of perfumes.

At Ulta you can get lost in the many rows of perfume, and the crazy prices of brand name makeup. You will find all the makeup that you can find in a drug store of Wal-Mart, and you can find good prices on some makeup, but they also have brand name that sale eye liner for about ten dollars.

The wedding season has started and Ulta has everything you need to accessorize your wedding dress, or the dress you are wearing to a friend’s wedding. Ulta staff is there to show you how to do your make up and hair. They have cute hair accessories for a big celebration or for a date night.

It’s amazing how much make up is in this store. If you are like me and do not understand the difference between mineral makeup and natural, or if you look at price tags over looking the brand names, then you will feel really lost walking down the many aisles of make up. I later realized that on the other side of the store there were employees talking about makeup.

I do not really understand why they were all the way across the store, but that would have helped with a lot of confusion a lot sooner.

If you are about to go out for wedding or prom than you should make an appointment to get your hair styled or cut. If you like to do your hair by yourself than you should check out the hair products. They have a great selection of hair straighteners and hair curlers.

You should check out the new lines of fun colored straighteners and curlers. You can buy all the hair spray and shampoo, you can get all the products that you need that you can buy at Wal-Mart.

The smells of the store can be extremely strong and over whelming when you first walk in, but the store has some of the most popular and nicest perfumes for both men and women.

It is fun to walk around and smell all the different products, and they were very smart putting coffee beans out so that you can smell the beans after you smell a perfume so that the next perfume smells sweeter and stronger.

Ulta has all your beauty products needs and everything you need for proper grooming, but it is easy to spend a lot of money fast. I think this is a store that Tyler really needed and it is fun to go and shop for all you need or want. You will be able to find the best products there and there are a lot of employees ready to answer questions.

A Large Bookseller With Local Appeal

January 8th, 2010

While the Barnes and Noble chain is often seen as the Walmart of the bookselling world, the benefits of having one in Tyler are innumerable. Even though B&N is far from a local business, it has become something of a social and cultural center here. Not only does the store boast thousands of titles for sale, but since its opening, countless musical presentations, author signings, and other events have taken place within its doors.

The Starbucks café has served as a meeting place for book clubs, chess players, church groups, and even the occasional college student cramming over a cup of Joe. Sometimes it’s a place for prearranged meetings, and sometimes it’s just a place to kill time. And who can resist wandering the book filled aisles looking for nothing in particular, but finding some volume we can’t live without.

On-line booksellers like Amazon.com or even Barnes&Noble.com and others are useful tools for locating those hard to find or out of print books. But they cannot replace the bookstore experience. It is one of the pleasures of life to sit on the floor and read the first couple chapters of a book before deciding whether or not to make the purchase. And unlike electronic books, a hard copy will never crash or freeze up.

The sympathies of a literary purest aside, the book store turns a tidy profit, both for the company and the community, and with a sizable staff employed there a certain amount of the dollars do stay in Tyler. So even though our neighbor B&N isn’t company headquarters, and its not a mom & pop style business it is nevertheless a staple of our local community, one we are fortunate to have.

Black Friday Freak Out

December 14th, 2009

Thanksgiving night, lines out the door, why? Some deals are good, some are not worth it. Makes me wonder how many of these people actually would buy this stuff if it wasn’t on sale. One of my favorite things that I use to tell my husband when I buy something on sale is “it was 50% off, I saved you $20”. Of course he isn’t impressed and says “you could have saved me $20 if you didn’t buy it in the first place.” I don’t say that anymore. But I do admit I was in line Friday morning at 3:00 for a camcorder that I had talked myself into “needing” (60% off of original prices, it was a must have). As I stood there for two hours repeatedly asking myself why I was there with only five other people in line fighting to the death over the thirteen available camcorders, I was rather entertained by the Wal-Mart employees.

As you walk into the store, you could feel the fear of the employees, as if it was the quiet before the storm. The store was mapped out. Each large sale item was marked by lettered balloon and two clueless employees. The balloons were spread across the store for flat screen televisions, Playstation 3, Blueray players, and this year’s popular item, a laptop on sale for $200. As I stood alone for the first hour in “line” for the most unpopular item manager after manager asked me what line I was standing in line for. They had no idea what was going on. Employees and managers even came up to me asking where the line for some desktop computer was. I was following their map and instructions that they didn’t even understand. The smaller sale items, such as movies, video games, and popular toys, were wrapped in plastic wrap and an employee guarded them like a hawk.

Once the clock struck five the wild rumpus exploded. You could barely walk down the aisles and if you were pushing a shopping cart you were entering a death trap. Not to mention the frustrating older ladies that would stop and talk to their friends right in the middle of the traffic, while you stood behind them unable to move your cart around them as they talk about how many people are in the store.

Something surprisingly impressive happened that day, something I never have seen and probably never will see again. Wal-Mart had all of their cash registers opened at the same time. Well done Wal-Mart!

So next year as you are getting ready for the big sales I recommend Tyler TX Wal-Mart (especially on Troop hwy.) but make sure you know what you are doing because the employees are no help.

On Target in Tyler

November 11th, 2009

As a traditional male, I hate shopping. While they do have the advantage of offering a huge variety, department stores can be a source of frustration. Service is often bad, the stores become disorganized quickly, and I often find it necessary to sift through a lot of low quality merchandise before finding what I want. Of all the major department store chains however, I do have my favorite.

Target is not only a great department store, but as huge corporations go, it’s a good Tyler neighbor. Between the distribution center, located just south of Lindale, and the area stores, the company employs thousands of East Texans. It is also very involved in community affairs and local charities. The store itself is always neat and clean which for me can make or break the department store experience. I find there is almost nothing worse than wandering the aisles of a dirty disorganized store looking for the one thing I came to buy. Target usually does a great job keeping the store attractive and easy to navigate.

Another of the store’s strengths is its staff. The employees of Target’s biggest competitor in Tyler are often disheveled and unhelpful. Those of Target are always attractive, neat and knowledgeable.

I will concede that the store’s prices can be slightly higher, but I remind the reader that you tend to get what you pay for. And with the Christmas season just around the corner, I trust there will be a lot of sales to bring in even the thriftiest customers. The quality of products like clothing is definitely higher than the competition’s, and I should mention the selection is better, particularly for business casual attire.

So if you’re looking for a better shopping experience and better quality goods overall, I suggest giving Target a try. While it’s admittedly not a local business a good portion of the dollars spent there do stay home in Tyler Texas. Target is located at 7003 on South Broadway, next to Wal-Mart. For more on Tyler area department stores, see the Tyler blog section of this site and look for the title “Wal-Marts in Tyler.”

David’s Bridal Wedding Dresses in Tyler Texas

September 28th, 2009

David’s Bridal is the most popular store for your special day. As I walked into Tyler’s popular wedding dress center, overwhelmed with white dresses and thousand dollar price tags, I take my first step to prepare for the most important day of a young girl’s life. The purchase of a wedding dress, is not like any other purchase. The wedding day is the time a woman is truly pampered. The girdle, the slip, the shoes, the veil, the layers and layers of lacy material, brings out the inner princess in us all. Woman gather around you parading choices to make your day just as you have always dreamed.

Walking down the crowded aisles displaying wedding dress after wedding dress, dresses grab at your ankles. The loud chatter of over enthusiastic brides-to-be fills the air. Bridesmaids’ griping about their disdain of their dresses rings in your ears. Its everything you dreamed, people waiting on you, friends awing, until you see the five guys sitting on the couches watching you and the other brides changing. Why are they there? Women are running around in their underwear and slips. There should be a rule against this kind of weird perversion. Do these guys even really want to be there, or were they dragged by their super controlling girlfriends that need their opinion for the new prom dress?

For the most part I love David’s Bridal in Tyler Texas. I love the butterflies that you get in your stomach when you find that perfect dress. I love the little sticker that makes your feet dance that reads “50 percent off”. I love standing on that pedestal dressed in the most memorable thing a girl can put on her body. I love the online access that makes it easy for your fiancé’s sister that lives in Alaska to get the same dress as your other bridesmaids in her size.

So after you get asked the question you waited so long for, make David’s Bridal your next step. But girls leave your men at home, they don’t want to be there anyway!
