Foster Adopt Walkathon in Tyler Texas

November 6th, 2010

The Tyler Texas Foster Adopt Walkathon happened today.

There weren’t very many people there at Rose Rudman Park where the walk started.

There were a couple good speeches encouraging those in Tyler to foster and adopt children from the state.

The walk was around 1 1/2 miles and afterwards there was a bouncy house for children and some fruits and drinks for the walkers.

They also had a fund raising raffle where you could win a Wii game console.

Channel 19 was there so even though there was not a lot of people at the walkathon there was still a good get out the word publicity opportunity for fostering and adoption in Tyler Texas.

Crown Kia Tyler TX

January 17th, 2010

Crown Kia

4818 Troup Highway
Tyler TX 75703
903 581 7688

On a search for a minivan in Tyler and very much on a budget, we headed to Crown Kia in Tyler. We had previous experience with Kias, having owned a Sorrento. We had been initially impressed with all it’s features but very soon realized that quantity doesn’t equal quality. Interior paint peeled, the CD player got stuck and all sorts of bits of plastic broke off over time. But we were tempted at the thought of being able to buy a newer vehicle and attracted by special offers we had seen in the media, so found ourselves at Crown.

As soon as we pulled up, a salesman approached us. He was helpful but kept pressing us for details of our budget which we weren’t prepared to discuss. On test-driving the van we just weren’t sure. It didn’t feel as ‘solid’ as others we had seen. However, the salesman was really keen to take us into the office and after filling in some paperwork about our trade-in vehicle he left us to get the ‘best price’ from the boss. It was then that we began to feel trapped! Hard sell and lots of techniques to get us to buy the car followed. As we didn’t appear to be susceptible to these tricks of the trade, our salesman worked harder and harder. Our trade-in vehicle even doubled in value during the 10 minute discussion! We left the dealership with the salesman shaking his head in sympathy and disbelief at us for passing up an opportunity of a lifetime.

To be honest, I am very glad that I was not at Crown without my husband as I don’t like conflict and probably would have given in to the hard sell in order to stop it.

So, if you want a Kia (and are you sure you do?) be prepared when you visit Crown. The salesman will work hard for you to get you a good deal for sure but you may feel really pressured like we did, into making a purchase you are not sure about.

And by the way, in the end, we bought an older Toyota – it’s great!

Tyler Big Lots

January 12th, 2010

We have two locations in Tyler TX for Big Lots, one is off of Beckham and the other towards the mall. I love going to Big Lots because they have everything you could possibly need or want and the prices for the most part are reasonable, especially if you are looking for movies. Big Lots is the place because it’s the cheapest I have ever seen anywhere. They have movies ranging anywhere from $3 to $10 dollars. The new releases are the ones that cost a little more or if you find a series, that usually costs a little more. I once bought the series, Life Goes On, and I paid $4 dollars for it. That is just an example of the things that you can find there.

I also found little Christmas ornaments for a little tree that I have. They have food, clothes, personal needs, bedding, some furniture and many more things. I could not even start to list everything at Big Lots even if I wanted to because they have so many categories of things to buy there. The service for the most part is good. It is a place where if you are looking for a store where you could find some inexpensive gifts for someone, then I would suggest going to Big Lots. It is always a convenient thing to have a Big Lots around. Big Lots is usually surrounding other stores.

The store off of Beckham is next to the General Dollar Store and the Shoe Warehouse. The other one that is close to the mall on the South side is located by Michael’s, Pet Land, Dollar Store, and a Chinese Restaurant. You could definitely take a whole day to experience the bargains available at Big Lots. You would have your shopping, entertaining and food done all in one place.

Great Service And Low Prices At The Tire Barn

January 8th, 2010

They say that cars are character builders, and I can personally attest to the truth of this statement. And even though its not a major repair, a blowout can still set you back a pretty penny.

The Tire Barn, located just off thirty one, behind the what used to be the Goodyear plant, is sort of an open secret in Tyler. They offer a complete list of maintenance services for your car’s tires, including tire rotation, plugging holes, etc. If the tire is damaged beyond repair, they keep an inventory of used tires.

The prices at the Tire Barn are very low and the employees are honest, and very helpful. So if you’re in need of some tire maintenance and or a repair, and if you want to save some coin; try this local business. You can’t beat their services or their prices.

Wendy’s Headache

January 4th, 2010

Fast food is good for one thing, fast cheap food for the person on the go. You think that it would be very important to be accurate filling a costumer’s full order. Rarely has Wendy’s  in Tyler Texas gotten my order right with out me having to go into the store to correct their mistakes. Even if you clearly state your simple order, they still seem to not understand.

One day I went out to eat with my dad to Wendy’s as I walked up to the counter I asked a simple question, “what dressing do you have for your salads?” The question was simple enough but it was even more simple since the young man had the list of dressings right in front of him. He stumbled through every word. Not to critisize the young man but I have never heard of a dressing called “veng…van…whatever that is”. If an employee cannot read the menu leave them to flip the patties.

One of the best things about Wendy’s is the famous frosty. Being such a popular menu item you would think that it would be available, at the Lindale Wendy’s (right off the interstate) seems like it’s ice cream machine is always out of order. But this little issue is just one of the many things wrong with this fast food store. The employees are extremely rude. More accounts than one have I been gripped at because they did not get my order right. I have worked at places that I did not want to work, and dreaded going to work as much as the next guy, but you smile and be polite, and don’t take your issues out on costumers.

I have found that every once in awhile you can get something that tastes somewhat like food at Wendy’s. I despise the service and attitude at this fast food chain its ridiculous! I know each store should be different with a different attitude, but some how it’s the over-all attitude of the food chain.

If you are trying to get your food and go on your way, I would skip Wendy’s. If you want what you ordered without headache and without having to go into the store to correct their mistakes about three different times, Wendy’s is not your restaurant.
