Confused Rudeness

January 10th, 2010

I have written a before of my distaste of the rude Wal-Mart shoppers at the Wal-Mart stores in Tyler. Now I am talking from a whole different view.

The other day I went to Wal-Mart in Lindale by myself, which is very odd because I usually am balancing two screaming children and trying to get groceries at the same time. I decided to do the most annoying thing that Wal-Mart shoppers do, I stood in the middle of the aisle and looked on my phone. I tried out different places in the store to see if I got different reactions. Since this mission was during the extremely busy holiday season, I stood between the canned yams and the canned French-cut green beans. I pulled out my phone and leaned over the cart. Soon enough a little old lady stood staring at the canned goods. She tried not to look at me and just stood there waiting for almost a minute, not saying anything to me. She tried to act like she could not decide what sweet potatoes to use to put in her candy yams. I began to feel bad, so I moved on.

My next stop was the diaper aisle. My victims were the young moms. Being placed in this category, myself, I embraced for the worse. As I stood there blocking the infant diapers, half looking at the products and half looking at my phone. As I expected it wasn’t long before a young mom walked up to me with a small child sitting in the back of the cart surrounded by groceries. She had no patience a quickly snapped at me with “um, excuse me”. This was about the reaction I would give, and have given.

Wanting to get each variety of each Wal-Mart shopper, I headed to the electronic section. I stood in front of the new release DVDs and Blu-ray discs. I had to wait a while before someone actually came and looked at the movies. My cart was blocking most of the movies on the self. As a middle aged man walked up her just asked if this was my cart, I nodded “yes” and he slowly moved it out of his way to reach for what he wanted. I felt like this reaction was appropriate, I wasn’t moving and I wasn’t moving or touching my cart.

My last stop of this experiment was the toy section. This was the section I looked the most forward, because of the crowded and insane holiday shopping. I stood in the middle of the “pink aisle” in front of the beloved holiday Barbie, and the Disney princesses. This time I did the most famous of shopping moves, I talked way too loud on the phone that everyone could hear my conversation. No one said anything to me, even though I am obviously in their way. I don’t know if it was the fact that I was on the phone and people didn’t want to interrupt my obnoxious conversation, or if it was that they were in to much of a hurry. People reached around me, I was getting hit in the back with a purse, and my car was being pushed around, and people were reaching over my cart or reaching under it. So it was as if people were being rude, pushing my cart out of the way, while trying not to be rude and interrupt my phone call.

My last act of rudeness to blend into the mold of the typical shopper, was talking on my phone and walk extremely slow down the middle of the store. People sighed in frustration loud enough for me to hear and people quickly speed-walked right past me, shooting me a bad look over their shoulder. The world of the rude shopper is very intense. The Wal-Mart shopper must be fearless, and heartless, and most importantly, oblivious to the people around you.

Through my experience of rude shopping, I realize how hard the art of rudeness is. I also realize how often rudeness is repaid with rudeness.

Target in Tyler Texas

January 4th, 2010

Target

I may be a little partial toward Target as I am writing this, because I love the Target shopping experience. When you go to Target you may not be get as good of a price as if you were shopping at Wal-Mart. I can be guaranteed to get great brand names and great quality. I am pretty frustrated that Tyler does not have a Target shopping center, and only one Target store.

Target has some of the cutest little children’s clothes. Although the baby/toddle boy clothes are very few, the boy clothes have a great and stylish selection. As the season change find all you need for this up and coming winter. Find great brand name for assurance that you are getting the best quality for your money.

Target has great selections of men’s clothes for whatever your taste is. No matter the style, Target has clothes for all events or just every day prices. Also look at for Target for great work and sporting shoes.

At some stores it seems impossible to find the style of clothing that you like in the right size, but at Target you can always find beautiful selections in your size. Target also has great designs when you are expecting. You can find maternity jackets as the weather begins to become cold and you can find cute maternity bathing suits for those extremely hot Texan days.

Though the infant boy’s clothes selection is pretty limited, Target has a rather large selection for a little girl. They have great prices and wonderful sales. Target in Tyler Texas also has brand names and beautiful styles for every season of the year. Target is a bit more expensive that its neighboring competition, Wal-Mart. Target has beautiful bedding, cribs, car seats, high chairs and anything else you could need to be ready to welcome your new baby into the world. As your kid grows find great selection for your young toddler, such as gates and a training potty. Look for the developmental toys for your young child and bedding to match your child’s themed room.

If you are expecting and love the Target baby brand names, register. Target makes the register easy and simple to read. Also out of town friends can look at your registry online and at other stores.

If your big wedding day is approaching, you can find all the needs for your new house! Wedding registry is also available online or in the store. You can find beautiful kitchen appliances. Make your first home as a married couple your own with tasteful furniture, beautiful lamps, mirrors, wall clocks and so much more. Make your bathroom show your designer tastes with Target’s large selection of bathroom appliances.

Check out the great collection on televisions, video games, movies and music. In my opinion you can always find better prices on televisions at Wal-Mart and Target selection in very limited. Though the television selection is very limited, the video selection is very organized and plentiful. So instead of going to other stores and digging elbow deep into a giant box of movies, walk through aisles and pick through the organized displays of new releases, oldies, family, and even television show seasons.

If you are clothes shopping at Target and start to feel a little hungry, Target sells snacks and some frozen meals. The Target in Tyler has very little food, so I don’t recommend doing your grocery shopping here. But you will be able to pick up all your household needs, such as dish and laundry soap, toilet paper, and diapers. Also you will be able to get all your bath soap and shampoo, and all and all brand names makeup.

So find all your wants and needs here at Target and be sure to get great quality and brand names. Even though the prices may not be as good as many of their competitor’s prices, but their quality and the neatness of the store makes the shopping experiences easy and enjoyable.

Hastings experience

January 2nd, 2010

With the many advancements in east Texas it still baffles me how a store like Hastings can stay in business. Hastings (in case you don’t know) is a multimedia store, that hosts a large selection of music, videos, books and more. Though the selection is worthy of recognition, the prices alone make me want to venture to the local walmart for my purchase and still be able to buy lunch on the way home with the money I saved.

Hastings has video renting with their very own membership card, but with redbox and netflix and for those who have still not caught up, Blockbuster, the idea of having video renting is almost irrelevant. They have a good book selection, but like the rest of the store is very overpriced. They also have a large music section which contains a great many ridiculous items such as ozzy posters and strobe lights at, you guessed it, ridiculous prices. The new movies they have for sale are pricey and the used movies are priced around the same.

On my way to the register with my Kiss dolls and Misfit monopoly in my shopping cart, I stop by and grab a movie to rent. As I wait in line I grabbed a packaged pickle and a container of popcorn to properly enjoy my movie watching experience. After my purchase I stop by to use their facilities and am shocked to find one of the vilest restrooms outside of truck stops in Mexico, that I had ever seen. I noticed on the wall there is the ‘bathroom cleanliness board’ with every hour up to and including the hour of my visit, checked and initialed.

Although my experience is not necessarily what you will encounter, it is something to watch for if you are planning on shopping there. With the advancements in video rentals and mp3 players Hastings is on the verge of becoming obsolete, but if you must have a new cd or movie I would suggest Walmart or Best Buy.

Hallmark

December 15th, 2009

As Christmas roles in my “candy” themed Christmas tree begins to crowd with ornaments. For us its tradition to get ornaments for everyone in the family. This task is much more difficult than just picking up a few balls at Wal-Mart. The ornament has to be meaningful, or remind you of that person, to show that you were thinking of them. For this reason, my first pace to shop is always Hallmark. With their walls orderly filled with all different ornaments its easy to find the perfect one. Movie themes are a big hit. It seems like every year there is a “Christmas Story” ornament in the mix. So if it’s the “Baby’s first Christmas” or if your like me and your Christmas has a sweet tooth you can always find your preference here.

I don’t think there is anywhere else that is a better shopping spot for Christmas presents for Grandparents. What do grandparents love more that pictures of their grandchildren? Or a beautiful nativity scene for the living room, and not to mention the singing booty shaking Santa that we all love. Also for those friends that you see only every once in a while, and your not sure if you should send them something or not, get them an unforgettable card from the well known, large card selection.

For the men in your family you can stuff their stocking full of school spirit. Hallmark offers a large selection items to show off your favorite college school spirit. See your husband get excited about his stocking this year!

Hallmark has what you need to throw a perfect birthday party. Now available you can order personalized plates. You can personalize with words or pictures. There is all different themes that you can use, Disney Princesses, Cars, Cowboys, First birthdays, and so much more. Also you can do personalized plates and cups for weddings. Check out their website for more information on this new product.

There are two Hallmark stores in Tyler, both are full of cards and all you need for the perfect holiday!

Black Friday Freak Out

December 14th, 2009

Thanksgiving night, lines out the door, why? Some deals are good, some are not worth it. Makes me wonder how many of these people actually would buy this stuff if it wasn’t on sale. One of my favorite things that I use to tell my husband when I buy something on sale is “it was 50% off, I saved you $20”. Of course he isn’t impressed and says “you could have saved me $20 if you didn’t buy it in the first place.” I don’t say that anymore. But I do admit I was in line Friday morning at 3:00 for a camcorder that I had talked myself into “needing” (60% off of original prices, it was a must have). As I stood there for two hours repeatedly asking myself why I was there with only five other people in line fighting to the death over the thirteen available camcorders, I was rather entertained by the Wal-Mart employees.

As you walk into the store, you could feel the fear of the employees, as if it was the quiet before the storm. The store was mapped out. Each large sale item was marked by lettered balloon and two clueless employees. The balloons were spread across the store for flat screen televisions, Playstation 3, Blueray players, and this year’s popular item, a laptop on sale for $200. As I stood alone for the first hour in “line” for the most unpopular item manager after manager asked me what line I was standing in line for. They had no idea what was going on. Employees and managers even came up to me asking where the line for some desktop computer was. I was following their map and instructions that they didn’t even understand. The smaller sale items, such as movies, video games, and popular toys, were wrapped in plastic wrap and an employee guarded them like a hawk.

Once the clock struck five the wild rumpus exploded. You could barely walk down the aisles and if you were pushing a shopping cart you were entering a death trap. Not to mention the frustrating older ladies that would stop and talk to their friends right in the middle of the traffic, while you stood behind them unable to move your cart around them as they talk about how many people are in the store.

Something surprisingly impressive happened that day, something I never have seen and probably never will see again. Wal-Mart had all of their cash registers opened at the same time. Well done Wal-Mart!

So next year as you are getting ready for the big sales I recommend Tyler TX Wal-Mart (especially on Troop hwy.) but make sure you know what you are doing because the employees are no help.
