Pizza by Double Daves in Tyler TX

March 31st, 2011

Double Daves Pizza

Double Dave’s is one part pizza parlor one part sports bar and one part arcade. Double Dave’s in Tyler is located in the Time Square shopping center on Broadway. Double Dave’s does it’s best to create an appealing atmosphere.

The massive size of the main room feels like an arena for eating, drinking, sports, and video games all under the canopy of a ridiculously big screen TV constantly tuned to the sports channel as per Double Dave’s pre-established theme. Double Dave’s has a wide variety of imported and domestic beers and in fact is probably one of the cheapest places to get a drink in Tyler.

The menu contains the traditional pizza options while offering several original choices such as their line of specialty pizzas or the pepperoni roll that Double Dave’s claims to be known for. Double Dave’s has a high opinion of their food, which is hard to dispute considering the amount of care put into using fresh ingredients, for example making the crust twice a day as well as remaking the sauce from scratch every day along with cutting new and fresh vegetables for the ingredients daily.

The attention paid to freshness shows the dedication to well made food that is held simultaneously with a functioning sports bar and arcade style gaming business model. The defining characteristics of Double Dave’s service such as cheap alcohol, sports on a big screen television, pizza, and arcade games full fill the predictable desires of the American majority that make such businesses a dependable and thriving success.

Double Dave’s is a culmination of popular entertainment forms loved Americans internationally while America’s favorite food supports the entertainment through freshly made Italian style nourishment. Double Dave’s statistically fun styled atmosphere is open for party rental in a separated party room next to the arcade area, this confinement ensures that no strangers happen to wander through your party and that the background restaurant noise is reduced to allow for a more casual private gathering.

Double Dave’s has exceptionally good quality hand made pizza and has been praised for it’s one of a kind crust. There’s plenty of room and plenty of fun things to do, including racing arcade games hunting arcade games and even a prize crane among other forms of entertainment. Even the pizza making is entertainment, placed behind a large window the cooks toss the spinning dough in the air as they prepare the crust for your pizza. Double Dave’s is an above average quality pizza restaurant that I highly recommend.

Andys Frozen Custard in Tyler Texas

Andy's Frozen Custard in Tyler TX

Andy’s Frozen Custard in Tyler Texas is not your typical ice cream parlor. This retro styled frozen custard kiosk has become a quick favorite of local Tyler residents since it’s opening a few years ago.

A good ice cream shop is always appreciated, however as appreciated Andy’s has been they do not serve ice cream per se. Andy’s makes a similar yet distinct dessert called frozen custard which shares the same ingredients with ice cream while adding eggs to the formula, giving the frozen concoction a more dense, thicker alternative to traditional plain ice cream.

The custard at Andy’s is made every hour using Andy’s custom design custard machines in order to ensure absolute quality and freshness. Andy’s has a extensive selection of toppings and combinations to improve and customize your frozen custard. Feel free to build your own specific custard creation or simply order one of Andy’s favorites from the menu of thoughtfully constructed custard combo’s of complimentary confections collected carefully conflating cream and garnish.

Traditional treats such as banana splits and chocolate malts are readily available along with original Andy’s innovations like the James Brownie Funky Jackhammer which has no choice but to live up to the all mighty name of James Brown through grandma’s homemade brownies, peanut butter and hot fudge just how Andy’s imagines the god of funk might possibly like his frozen custard. Andy’s is the perfect refreshing and decadent frozen dessert for the scorching summer months in Tyler.

Andy’s is open extended hours during the summer so you can grab sweet frozen relaxation any time from 11:00 am to 11:30am Sunday through Thursday or until 12:00am Fridays and Saturdays, providing a innocent and accessible location to enjoy some time out with your friends or family during the peak of the weekend. Although Andy’s does not have an indoor dining area, there is a large concrete patio for you to eat concretes on while socializing.

A few benches surround their patio which are often occupied making the Andy’s sign a popular resort for sitting when most busy. Andy’s also offers a drive through to all those who need custard on the go, while many simply choose to remain in the comfort of their vehicle while staying at Andy’s simply to get out of the house and essentially relive the age old custom of drive in restaurants. Andy’s has brought a unique dessert to Tyler and we could not be more grateful for it’s soft melting goodness.

Jersey Mike’s in Tyler TX

March 24th, 2011

Jersey Mikes came to Tyler a few years back bringing high quality New Jersey style sandwiches with them. It did not take long for Tyler to welcome these uncharacteristically decent quality subs into the mouths of it’s small town. After years of picking through soggy string lettuce and Lunchable grade deli meats a consumer can all together forget the joy of basic well made ingredients and fresh vegetables.

At Jersey Mikes you can watch as fine selections of meat and cheese are sliced to your preference in a sanitary and efficient manner. When Jersey Mikes started in 1956 it was known for it’s friendly and genuine customer service making a point of mentioning the persistence of this attitude in the employment of their staff. Although the experience of my service at Jersey Mikes was in every way adequate and nonabrasive I did not notice any exceptional level of customer service.

However, customer service and serving the customer can be very different, Jersey Mikes has made a tremendous effort to benefit the local people to whom they offer fresh food through the marvelous community outreach projects that have been a part of the company ever since the present CEO Peter Cancro claimed ownership in 1972 as an ambitious seventeen year old high school student.

Motivation to support the local communities of jersey Mikes has only grown to take such considerate measures from giving to all of the extra-curricular programs of the recently effected school districts in his city, to teaming up with Wipe Out Kids Cancer to support pediatric cancer research. Jersey Mikes subs are well prepared and come from a supply of what I would call mid grade ingredients but better than subway.

From the way Jersey Mikes describes thier own sandwiches you would think they had discovered the essence of pure flavor through the paragon design of the sub sandwich. I’m not sure if I would go so far as to say such things as “it’s the best sub sandwich in the industry” quite a pretentious attitude for any restaraunt but it exemplifies a shallower and extremely common approach to self promotion held by businesses today who demand a flawless reputation before they have even made a good one.

Jersey Mikes may have a good reputation as humanitarians but sandwich wise they are in no place to honk their own sub horn, objective tasting judgement will easily designate these sandwiches as merely good tasting and well proportioned as opposed to the all powerful sandwich adonis tauted by Jersey Mikes marketing staff.

Papa Murphy’s Take and Bake Pizza in Tyler

March 20th, 2011

Papa Murphy's in Tyler Texas
Papa Murphy’s holds claim to what many consider the best pizza in Tyler. Although it is true you have to bake it yourself they are unmatched in the quality and quantity of ingredients in their pizza. Regardless of a minor requirement such as baking Papa Murphy’s outdoes conventional pizza places with ease, the take N bake business model lowers the over head of the franchise allowing more funding and care to go to the food.

Papa Murphy’s even ventures outside the pizza realm and offers take and bake lasagna, cookie dough or even cinnamon wheels. You can conveniently throw a batch of cookies into your already heated oven while you eat your pizza, giving you a perfectly timed sequence of freshly baked pizza followed by delicious warm cookies.

Papa Murphy’s has a menu that is truly exceptional, pizza is hardly the same once you’ve experience the glory of what its potential in Papa Murphy’s selections. To begin with the signature pizzas such as The Cowboy with olives, mushrooms, sausage and pepperoni will win the heart of any pizza lover, it’s simple and classic ingredients make for a perfect pizza.

But Papa Murphy’s gets a lot better when you consider their many other menus. For instance a common favorite is the Herb Chicken Mediterranean DeLite which in addition to being low calorie has spinach, sun dried tomatoes and feta cheese which in my opinion could possibly make the most delicious thing ever tasted.

But Papa Murphy’s isn’t done yet, not even close, prepare yourself for the ability to create stuffed pizzas, not only can you get any pizza in a stuffed version, you can customize every part of your desired pizza. Change the crust, change the sauce, combine two pizza types or make a completely new one. And if the mood strikes why not put that pizza inside another pizza.

You can hardly imagine a pizza you can’t get made. And when your pizza is made you receive it wrapped and ready to bake with instructions and a menu for future orders which comes with a coupon and occasionally a free item.

And remember just because Papa Murphy’s is a take and bake restaurant  doesn’t mean you can’t call ahead of time to request an order, this way it will be fresh and ready right when you get there avoiding any potential crowd that has resulted from demand for wonderful pizza.

The staff work in an orderly team line, each handling one aspect of the pizza making. The employees are very understanding and polite so feel free to ask a question or make a suggestion for your pizza and they will happily oblige you within their ability.

Little Italy Italian Food in Tyler

March 16th, 2011

Little Italy in Tyler Texas
Little Italy is a staple of Tyler cuisine. Little Italy has brought authentic and delicious Italian food to East Texas and Tyler has been hooked ever since.

This small white building on Broadway appears understated in comparison to the quality of food served inside. The staff will serve you promptly and politely, bringing out warm buttery bread while you make your selections and checking back attentively throughout the entire meal to be sure your needs are met.

Browsing the menu will assuredly spark your appetite but if you are unsure of what to try I suggest the Chicken Florentine or my favorite the Fettuccine Alfredo both of which come with a crisp yet simple salad to warm up your pallet for the incoming fine food.

Lasagna is definitely a specialty of Little Italy, every time I have it I am surprised by the robust flavor and general taste of authenticity that Little Italy is known for. For such a genuine Italian experience it makes you wonder why Little Italy doesn’t serve wine, a well known tradition in Italin food and fine dining.

But in spite of the restaurant being dry Little Italy considers and understands the enjoyment of wine with a fine Italian meal and so the customers are welcome to bring in their own bottles to enjoy with their meal. After your entree you might take into account the selection of fine desserts available for your delectation. Little Italy is a Tyler gem that brings culture and extraordinary food all the way from Italy and into are small grateful town.
