Tyler has so many options for a great Italian dine in experience. One of my favorite places to eat is a little Italian Restaurant known as Joe’s Italian Grill. Joe’s is a quant little restaurant with walls stained with the smell of garlic and pesto that brings a true Italian culture to East Texas. Joe’s great pasta masterpieces cooked with his rich signature sauce will leave your stomachs and your wallets full. Joe has a great variety that is not found anywhere else.
Joe’s Italian Grill offers a quiet, romantic atmosphere and each of the tables has individual curtains to maintain the privacy of your dinner party. It is a great place to have a great date and a delightful peaceful meal. Not only is the food great but the prices are unbeatable. Lunch menus start at $6. And the rest of the menu is prices between six to fourteen dollars. Have a glass of wine of your choice with your meal.
Not sure what will go with your meal? Just ask your waiter and they will give you their suggestions. They have all different wines, both white and red. If you just want to enjoy a drink feel welcomed at their small bar. At this locally family owned restaurant the waiters and waitresses are very attentive and professional, expect great service. The small italian restaurant on a small shopping center, is a great place to enjoy the Italian culture here in Tyler. So come on in and let your taste buds travel around the world.

With around 1000 Mexican eateries in and around Tyler Texas ranging from the big chains to your little ‘hole in the walls’, Taqueria El Lugar is a Tyler staple. With its five locations Lugar offers everything from beef tacos to chicken burritos. And if you think a quesadilla is a thin tortilla shaped like a triangle you haven’t met Lugar’s #7. The #7 is a super quesadilla stuffed to the gills with your choice of beef, ham or chicken with cilantro, cheese and sliced avocado! Oh!-you’ll need both hands! The Super Quesadilla cost around $3.80 each
A Great Place to Bring “Out of Towners”
You have friends from out of town? You want to show them something a little less tex-mex?
Taqueria El Lugar is more authentic and will not disappoint non Tylerites. Try its newest location in the shopping center just south of The Diner in Tyler. If you hit ‘Academy Sports’ you’ve gone way too far!

McAlisters Deli
4325 Old Bullard Road
Tyler, TX 75703-1229
(903) 939-3300
If you need a good place to go to have a free wireless internet connection for your business meeting in Tyler Texas than try McAlisters Deli. They have good food like their delicous chili bowl or turkey sandwich and it is delivered fast. This deli also caters to businesses and events all the time. Next time you need to talk over some business while eating lunch it is hard to beat McAlisters in Tyler Texas.
I am not a big deli sandwich person but if I had to recommend one sandwich from McAlister’s it would be the berry Turkey sandwich. I think it goes by a slightly different name but you will be able to spot it on the menu. The chili bowl is still the best thing they have as they serve it in a home made bread bowl and the bread it is made with is some of the most delicious bread I have had. I think the bread bowl actually tastes better than most rolls I have been served at Tyler restaurants.
The chili that is served at the McAlisters in Tyler tastes homemade and not that disgusting stuff in a can. I have been to Tyler restaurants that when a customer orders chili they will break open a can of chili and heat it up in the microwave. I don’t know if anyone reading this has had chili in a can but it is very bad stuff and the meat tastes more like tofu or soggie bread than real chili. McAlister’s will not serve this type of food product and if you are a chili lover I think you are going to like my suggestion.
If chili is not your think McAlisters in Tyler also has a really good bacon chedder spud. This potato is the best on the menu and you can ask for sour cream and any additional toppings that you would like. Sometimes I will order the chili bowl and the bacon cheddar spud and eat them both.
Finally I would like to point out that they have the booths divided in a way to give each table privacy. With the privacy and free wifi internet you will find McAlisters Tyler Texas to be a very good location for any type of meeting such as a business meeting or just a place to sit down and finish some homework while eating lunch. McAlisters is right next to Office Depot and the Tyler mall. If you would like to order catering you may speak with Diana Todd who is the manager over their catering side.

Brady’s Coffee
309 W Rusk St
Tyler, TX 75701-1514
(903) 596-0508
While it is not my desire to turn this blog into a restaurant guide, there is a café in Tyler that more people need to know about. Located at 309 W. Rusk, Brady’s Coffee shop is hidden just off Broadway.
Brady's Coffee
Owner James Brady operates the shop with the help of just a couple employees. All the coffee served is provided by local roaster and distributor “Distant Lands.” Speaking of Distant Lands they are now the official coffee manufacturer for McDonalds new espresso machines. This is a remarkable credit as McDonalds is taking on Starbucks in the coffee market. This could turn Tyler TX into a serious coffee mecca like Seattle is now.
On the outside Brady’s is a plain white building, but on walking inside the visitor is met by a miniature art gallery. Paintings and photos by local and out of town artists line the walls. Most are for sale. The art aside however Brady’s is not a boutique. Its more of a classic mom and pop business, something akin to the neighborhood pub where regulars meet to debate religion and politics.
The Irish flag which hangs opposite the American, hints at Brady’s Irish Catholic roots. Theology books are stacked around the register & religious icons hang behind the bar. The owner is certainly not shy about his faith and often argues its merits good naturedly with his regular patrons.
In a town full of chain restaurants and corporate coffee shops, its refreshing to have some spots of local color. The coffee is great, the wifi free and the conversation amusing. So if you’re looking for a great cup of Joe and an escape from the heat outside, why not support a great Tyler business and keep a few more dollars here at home?

Mexican restaurants in Tyler are a lot like Churches in Tyler. Some prefer the mega churches, just like some choose the impersonal larger favs like Mercados or Jalapeño Tree. Well I no more prefer being one of a billion served than a billion saved. When it comes to Mexican or “Tex-Mex” food, why trust to a corporation what has been done better by grandmothers for centuries. Ok so that’s a bit nostalgic I admit, but Texas is blessed with some of the best cultural foods of any place in the world. This is why I visit restaurants like Don Juan’s. When I eat Mexican food in Tyler I want it taste like authentic Mexican / Texan food.
Don Juan’s is a local Tyler business with two locations; that serves the authentic food I expect to have in Texas. Their quesadillas and enchiladas are absolutely out of his world and their Chimichanga has to be the best in town. But everyone has their favorite menu item. And with an atmosphere as authentic as the food, it’s a great place to take out of town guests for a bit of local color.
Great cantaloupe juice!
So next time you’re tempted to follow the crowd to one of the mega Tex-Mex establishments, try something a bit more personal. Try Don Juan’s located at 1313 E. Erwin, or on the Square at 113 E Erwin, in Tyler. You’ll be glad you did.For a menu see their website at www.donjuantyler.com.
