Although we do have very good information on weight loss surgery and doctor’s in East TX and Tyler we can also direct you to those doctor’s that may serve your needs better within and outside the state of Texas. There are many things to consider when deciding on weight loss treatment surgery.

You want to make sure that you are not necessarily going to the weight loss surgeon in Tyler that has done the most surgeries. Many times these surgeries that are done in large volume fail to consider new technology and advances in science. Although they may have done more surgeries than anyone else there could be future complications down the road because they did not stay updated on less risky procedures.

An example of surgeries that have been done in large volume but failed to realize long lasting results are with laser eye surgery. There is a doctor in Dallas who advertised laser eye surgery for years on radio, TV, and billboards and claimed to have done the most in Texas. We have personally talked to some of these patients who have already gone back to their previous vision loss prior to the eye laser surgery.

Weight loss and lap band surgery is much more risky than eye laser surgery. Your life is at stake with a massive undertaking as weight loss surgery and so it helps to speak with a weight loss surgery consultant that has personal surgical experience with this type of thing as well as many prescreened doctors to choose from.

We have prescreened Doctor’s available to treat patients from Longview, Athens, Jacksonville, Palestine, Kilgore, Marshall, Gilmer and several other locations in East Texas.

Mercy Ships Ministry in Garden Valley TX

April 28th, 2010

Mercy Ships
PO Box 2020
Garden Valley
Texas 75771
Phone: 903 939 7000

Mercy Ships is a charity operating hospital ships to help alleviate poverty and sickness in developing nations of the world. Mercy Ships is an international organization but it has its main operations center here in East Texas.

Mercy Ships was founded in 1978 and grew out from Youth With a Mission (YWAM).

Their mission is to bring hope and healing to the world’s forgotten poor. The  reason for doing it – to follow the example of Jesus, who healed the sick, helped the lame walk, brought sight to the blind and who set the captives free. Like Jesus, Mercy Ships will help anyone, free of charge, without regard for race, gender or religion.

As the name suggests, this charity provides their services using hospital ships. There have been ships of various sizes traveling to different places in the past but now the main focus is on some of the poorest of the poor – those living in Africa.

The ship in operation now – the Africa Mercy is a 500 foot vessel with a large purpose-built hospital on board – with 6 operating rooms, intensive care, labs, Xray and CT scanner and beds for 78 patients. 480 volunteer crew can be accommodated on board. The Africa Mercy is like a little floating community – there is a bank, a laundromat, a school for children of essential workers and even a Starbucks café for crew use!

Currently the ship is in Togo, West Africa. Recent port visits have included: Sierra Leone, Liberia, Benin, Ghana and the Gambia.

The surgeries performed include cleft lip and palate repair, tumor removal, cataract surgery, facial reconstruction and various orthopedic procedures. There is also a VVF program which repairs injuries sustained in childbirth and resolves incontinence for women. The need for this is so great in West Africa – due in part to the lack of availability of Caesarean sections for women in obstructed labor, that Mercy Ships started a dedicated clinic for this problem in Sierra Leone. There is an off -ship dental team providing much needed dental care too.

In addition to the surgeries, a great deal of training and education goes on amongst the patients, local medical workers and leaders in local communities. This is primarily health and hygiene related but various ship projects aim to tackle some of the underlying causes for disease – like poverty, malnutrition and water born diseases. This has included providing wells and latrines, immunization clinics, agricultural projects and partnering with locals to build homes, schools and health facilities.

Mercy Ships needs volunteers from all walks of life to become crew on the ship. Many come for a few weeks, some stay for years. The support side of the organization just north of Tyler also needs dedicated helpers to fundraise and equip the ship for service. Some of the staff at the office are paid but others raise support from individuals and churches.

Pregnancy Resource Center

April 7th, 2010

Pregnancy Advice and Free Sonogram Service

1003 South Baxter Avenue
Tyler, TX 75701-2212
Phone: (903) 592-4495

When you are a teenage girl the world of pregnancy is intimidating and lonely. I do not think that anyone can really understand that statement unless they have been there themselves. I can say this. I remember finding out that I was pregnant and only being 18 years old. I felt so alone even though so many people were around me supporting me. The truth of the matter is that no one around me had been there. I had no idea what to do, what doctor to go to how to get on insurance or Medicaid. I was like a deer caught in head lights. The world seemed so empty and I could see disappointment every time someone looked me in the eyes. I felt like there was no one to talk to about my concerns. But there was someone.

As I walked into the Pregnancy Resource Center I thought that I knew what to expect, because I have grown up having relatives work there and my Bible study group even met there at one time. As I walked in I thought I would get the looks of disappointment and condemnation. After all, I grew up in an extremely Christian home, went to a Christian school and I did and still do have a very true relationship with Jesus Christ. How could I screw up? How can I be pregnant? I figured that they would not understand that everyone sinned; I just wore the evidence of my sins under my shirt. I did not just want to be preached to, but I needed to be heard, and understood.

They handed me a couple sheets of paper to fill out, so that they understand where I am coming from. After a few minutes of waiting, they led me to the small bathroom and handed me that small cup to fill up for the pregnancy test. As I figures the test was positive and instead of words of condemnation, they offered an embrace of love. I had no idea how I was going to face the world, but right at that moment I felt loved and cared for. After they quickly talked to me about my plans of parenting, adoption and discouraging against abortion (which was never ever an option), they let me talk. They answered questions of how to break the news or where to go from here; they ended my time by praying for me. I knew I was going to raise my now two year old daughter, I just did not know where to start. Since I had no insurance they talked to me about how to get on Medicaid and where to go for the best health care. They gave me numbers and even made a few calls for me. I was great to have a little understanding of how to start my new life with this child.

After a couple months they asked me to come back in for a completely free sonogram. That day was one of the most memorable days of my life. I was preparing for my wedding that was going to take pace in a coupe weeks, through all the chaos this day seemed to slow everything down. As I was asked to lie on the padded table, I began to get anxious to see my child. The room was packed by my family and my now in-laws. This was the first day I saw my little girl. I knew she was real. I saw her hear beat, her hands moved, and her legs kicked in excitement. It was almost like she knew I was watching her. When the lady told me that my child was a girl, tears quickly filled the room. I loved her more at that point. I could not afford a sonogram at that point, but the Pregnancy Resource Center in Tyler Texas made it possible for me to see my little girl for the first time.

To this day, I am very thankful for the help that the Resource Center offered to me. I am only one of the many young girls that they support. The women that work there do not do this for a paycheck. They volunteer everyday because they want to help the young women of our society, and to make a difference. Every pregnancy test is free, and every sonogram is free, and run by professionals. They are there for you. To show the love of Christ to women of all ages. I have heard many stories of woman whose lives were changed because they decided to go to the Pregnancy Resource Center. I am just one of those women.

Robert D. Burnett DDS

Teeth Whitening Tyler Texas

210 E 5th St
Tyler, TX 75701-4223
(903) 597-7721

Robert D. Burnett DDS FA is located at 210 E. Fifth Street, Tyler, Texas 75701 If you are looking for a good dentist that is located in Tyler, then I strongly would advise you to try them. They are very professional, but most important care about the needs of the patient. I first heard about Dr. Burnett through my neighbor who goes to Glenwood church of Christ. I was in pain and did not have the funds necessary to fix my problems. I had mentioned my friends that I was in pain and was looking for someone who could help me. They told me they have a dentist at their church who might be able to help me. The next thing I knew is I had an appointment to go see a dentist.

When I went there I was planning on pulling the tooth that was giving me problems, because I had had another dentist who looked at my teeth and said that I needed root canals for these teeth or pulled. But when Dr. Burnett took a look at my teeth he told me he could fix it for me without having to pull it or a root canal. To my amazement I was shocked, I was about to get one of my teeth pulled because I had no money to do a root canal and another dentist told me its the way to go. For the same price that it would have cost me to get the tooth pulled, he was able to fix the cavity and save my tooth. One of his main concerns for me was to make sure he kept my tooth in place if he could at all.

Finding a good dentist is usually an easy task as most people are referred to a dentist by someone they know living in Tyler Texas. For those relocating to Tyler who don’t really know anyone who can refer you to a dentist it helps to find a business directory like this. I personally use Dr. Hammond in South Tyler for general dentistry. I am happy to refer others to him and you just have no clue as he does an excellent job.

If you need more of a cosmetic dentistry referral I recommend first trying a good teeth whitening system. Funny as it may be the Kardashian Sisters recommend a great teeth whitening product and there is a free trial offer with it. Click below to learn more.
I was so glad to see that there are still dentists out there who don’t just want to rip you off and say that you need the most expensive thing done just so they can have more money. I am glad I got a second opinion and God provided someone who was willing to go the extra mile and help someone out. Dr. Burnett has been able to save several of my teeth which means he saved me lots of money along with my teeth. This took place about 6 weeks ago and I do not have pain at this time. They were willing to work with my financial situation which has enabled me to just about get them paid off.

Dr. Burnett was so kind in doing the procedures. Anytime I was in pain, he would stop and make sure I was numb enough to finish the work. He was very gentle when giving the shots in my gum. I am always afraid before, but later on I realized it was not that bad. It was worth a little pain to get all the teeth taken care of, and get rid of the throbbing pain I had previously. Unfortunately I waited too long to take care of my dental needs, but you don’t have to.

If you go every six months to have them cleaned like you should, then you won’t suddenly have pain and need to pay more than what you should. If you make regular visits to the dentist it will run around $100-$150. If you put things off, then it will cost hundreds of dollars later from the fact that you did not go when it was time. Not worth doing things the wrong way thinking you save money by not going at all. Teeth are very important to us and require care in order to last. Trust me I am learning my lesson the hard way.

Dr. Burnett is amazing and worth the time and money. You can tell he cares for you. His office can help you with all your dental needs. They do have a card that you can apply to help you with your needs. Most dentist offices take a credit card that is specifically designed for your health needs. Going to their website will tell you more about their offers and the office times. Check them out, I am sure you will like them as much as I do.

Tyler, TX Hospitals

February 8th, 2010

Tyler Texas HospitalsIf you are looking for a hospital in Tyler, TX, you have come to the right place. For a city of just around 100,000 people, Tyler has excellent medical resources. Not only is the specialty Spine & Joint hospital one of the best in the nation, but the 3 major general hospitals in the city are very competitive, and offer a wide variety of services. But even if you live one of Tyler’s many outlying towns, you are still in good shape.Tyler’s major hospitals are incredibly well connected with general and specialty clinics all over East Texas.

Here is a brief rundown of the three major Tyler Hospitals:

UT Health Science Center at Tyler

UT Health Center is located North of Tyler on Highway 271 has more than 20 outpatient clinics scattered around Tyler and the surrounding towns, and a 109-bed academic hospital, and an Emergency Care Center. This hospital employs more than 90 full-time registered nurses. Trinity Mother Francis Hospital

Mother Frances Hospital merged with Trinity Clinics in 1995. The result was Trinity Mother Frances Hospitals and Clinics. In the outlying East Texas communities like Minneola, Jacksonville, Athens and Quitman, Trinity Clinics offer a wide array of health services, and because they are linked with the hospital, there are virtually endless treatment options.

Trinity Mother Frances Hospital is the most celebrated hospital in the entire East Texas region. It is a faith based and non-profit hospital which has served east Texas for ore than seventy years. East Texas Medical Center

These clinics offer a variety of services. In all, ETMC employs more than six thousand workers in its fifteen hospitals. ETMC aims to make health care more local for East Texans. That means they don’t focus the bulk of their resources on their central Tyler hospital, but on these smaller hospitals and clinics.

Tyler is also home to a specialty hospital

The Texas Spine & Joint Hospital

Texas Spine & Joint Hospital is a for-profit, 20 bed hospital that employs more than sixty full-time registered nurses. Their physicians specialize in all varieties of spinal care and surgery.
