Auto Glass Repair in Tyler Texas

July 27th, 2010

Driving around in Tyler and especially when behind dump trucks or newly paved roads you will get rock chips. I got one the other day from a newly paved road that had several loose rocks on top of some wet oily pavement.

I started thinking about the different auto glass places in Tyler Texas and some I have used before. I would have opened up the phonebook but the internet is so much easier to use.

So I searched for cheap rock chip repair in Tyler TX and found AutoGlass Express. They are in an easy to find location across from the place where you get your drivers licence in Tyler.

Keith was the guy I talked to and they ended up being the cheapest in town and did all the insurance verification for me. I ended up not paying anything for the windshield repair.

You can call them at (903) 566-2424.

If you need a completely new window for your car or truck they do that as well.

Jack O’ Diamonds in Tyler

July 2nd, 2010

When shopping for cars the most annoying thing about the shopping experience is definitely the salesmen. I hate that the moment you drive into the Jack O’ Diamonds parking lot you are immediately bombarded by men trying to get you to buy a car before you even have a chance to park.

We have been looking around for a car lately, and decided to hold our breath and deal with the annoying salesmen at Jack O’ Diamonds. They have cars in all sizes. It is a great place to look if you want a car for your family that gets more than 15 gallons of gas per a mile.

The car lot has many different makes of cars for sale. You can buy Lincoln, Mercury, Honda, and even can find a few Fords there. Personally I love the look and make of a Honda. We came looking for a car that was able to fit more than two car seats and that would not empty our wallets because of the horrible gas mileage.

Not to our surprise we were immediately approached by a salesman before we were able to park. They asked questions before we were even able to get out of the car or get our children out. Once we really explained that we wanted all these things at a price that would fit our low budget, the salesman was extremely helpful, and surprisingly was not pushing us to get way over our budget.

He showed us a few cars that were exactly what we were looking for, but we needed to discuss the purchase a little bit longer before we went ahead and bought the car. We were very impressed by how the salesman was not extremely pushing to make the decision and respected our need to sleep on it.

Although we did not purchase a car that day we will be going back in hopes that we get the same car salesman and find the car perfect for us. Finding a car is extremely stressful and I think that sales men should help you make a choice and not put more pressure on you that are unnecessary.

Sadly, usually the salesmen are more pushing and frustrating at Jack O’ Diamonds. Even as we were leaving, another salesman yelled after us, asking why we did not find what we were looking for. Hopefully if you are looking for a Tyler car you will have the luck we had!

Greater Tyler TX Auto Auction

June 17th, 2010

image1455715116.jpgThere are quite a number of businesses and or events that serve as cultural staples in our area. Some of those are educational, like the Historical Aviation Memorial Museum or the Hudnall Planetarium, others entertain but are really national draws like the Tyler Rose Garden, and still others, simply serve a function like the Greater Tyler Auto Auction (GTAA). While it’s not the kind of event one might want out of town guests to experience for dinner and cocktails, it is definitely full of local color.

When I first visited the GTAA I felt like I was observing a cultural ritual that had been taking place in this society since it’s inception. Oh sure the modes of transportation to be auctioned off are no longer of the four legged variety, but I’m fairly certain none the less, that had I been around a hundred and fifty years ago, and I needed a horse I could have found a local institution that sold repossessed quarter horses, or if I was in a financial crunch, maybe a used mule.

The Greater Tyler Auto Auction sells cars for area banks, title loan companies, and other forms of repossession. For the buyer, almost any kind of automobile can be found, often at very low prices. Sometimes the vehicles require some rudimentary repair that does little to take from the value of the vehicle but is easily repaired. Local pre-owned car dealers often shop the auction as a method of restocking their inventory. To make any purchases buyers must be a licensed motor vehicle dealer and be registered with the GTAA (forms are available on line). Individuals are welcome to attend but must work through a licensed dealer to do any bidding or make any purchases.

The auction is held every Tuesday night beginning at five. The staff operates four lanes which allows them to keep the sales going, and the flow of inventory moving. They also have a video auction beginning at five thirty, for “in-operative” vehicles. The Greater Tyler Auto Auction is located at 11654 on Highway 64 West in Tyler, Texas. For more information, visit their website at www.greatertyleraa.com. To reach their offices, call (903)597-2800, or email them at greatertylerautoauction@yahoo.com.

Jack O Diamonds Scam

May 12th, 2010

This week jack o diamonds in Tyler Texas is having some sort of repo sale. They sent out mass mail to everyone with a scratch off saying you “Win 30,000 if you match the numbers above”. To the best of my memory the numbers were 7, 9, 11, 34, 64

We scratched the ticket, and the middle scratch off said we won. We knew it had to be a scam or gimmick, so before we got all excited, we read the rules. The rule about the 30k prize said you had to be 18 and something about having scratched 6 of 30. It was very brief about the 6 of 30 and didn’t elaborate at all so I was just confused about that part. Basically the rules led you to believe all you had to do was claim your prize because you just won.

My girlfriend called jack o diamonds and asked if it was just some sort of scam or gimmick to get us to come to their event. A woman answered back saying no it was not a scam or gimmick, you just had to come claim your prize. We went up there and a gentleman from Dallas greeted us, he sat us down in his office, after we went by the numerous tables in the front where everyone was sitting and had the same scratch off thing I did. I tried to see if it said they won too, but I couldn’t tell. The salesman gave us his spill about the deals that they had going today and asked if we were interested in buying a car, I said “Well if a car is our prize I will be fine with that. Do we have to enter again get our prize today?” He told me I didn’t have to enter, but before we went any further that he needed some information. It was the information that the dealer always gets from you when he tries to make a sale, details about your vehicle, information to get your credit score, your phone number so they can call and bug you, etc. I never did smile because I had a feeling they were trying to just sell me a vehicle. The guy jokingly tried to get me to smile and was all “Cmon man you haven’t smiled once since you’ve been here.” I said, “Yea, because I’m late to work.”. So I asked if I could fill out the information sheet for him, and he told me how they preferred he did it, but I eventually ended up filling it out, I know he would have taken forever. While I was filling it out he was asking about our vehicles, seeing if we wanted to trade them in. Neither of us wanted to trade in our vehicles and at this point were being rather rude. Then I realized, I bet we have to scratch another card to get 6 of 30, so I asked him. He said yes, but we don’t have anymore 6 of 30 cards, we wont have those until tomorrow. (I assume they are told to say this in case you actually want to try for the

30,000.) I told him whatever just give us the chance for the $100 or 3 gold coins. (The prizes were – 3 gold coins, $100, some hybrid car, and 30,000, The rules say you have 1 in 540,000 chance of getting the 30,000, but I assume this is if everyone scratches off the cards and they don’t lie to you and say they don’t have them right now.) We scratched it, and it said we won 3 gold coins(value of $3). He gave us the gold coins and we left.

-Note to self, jack o diamonds in Tyler is a shady dealership with gimmicky tactics. It is sad they have to go this low to get business.

How Can Car and Automobile Shopping Be Different For You?

March 4th, 2010

Most people are comfortable with driving around town randomly looking at auto’s for sale in Tyler Texas without ever taking the time to consider if this is an efficient use of your time. There is an online shopping phenomenon that has taken over the automobile industry all over the US. Many people now find and purchase their used and new cars online.

Dodge ChargerI have an interesting story about how my very own brother purchased his last two automobiles online. One of them was a Z71 Tahoe and the other was a Nissan sports car. He had a reason for his unconventional shopping behavior. He discovered that online sales departments will quickly offer you the very bottom dollar they will take for a particular car they have for sale on their lot. Why is this?

People shopping for cars online are price shopping and are conscientious about getting a good value. These types of shoppers have likely price matched a few times and have been to multiple car dealer websites. The fact that a car dealer gets a call from a potential buyer simply means they have price compared a car that you have and are likely very interested in that exact car.

Once an online shopper calls you on the phone they may be willing to accept your offer even if it is a couple hundred dollars more than the cheapest offer simply because of proximity. As a car dealer you may be asked if you will let the car go for a few hundred dollars less. Of course, you have probably listed your car for sale at a deep discount since you have it in your online inventory but you need to keep in mind that the buyer probably has a good reason for asking for a cheaper price.

As a car buyer it is good to understand how the psychology of this works. The dealer may or may not come down anymore if a dealership in Houston has the car listed for $200 cheaper. The reason is that the Houston car dealer probably has a much larger inventory and moves cars much quicker. A Houston car dealer can afford to come down further or price their cars the cheapest initially. A Tyler Texas car dealer may be a few hundred dollars more expensive but you can’t beat the convenience of proximity.

It doesn’t hurt to try and talk the car dealer into moving the price down to match the dealer in Houston but keep in mind their margins online are thin and they aren’t moving cars as fast as in a big city. At this point you need to weigh the risk reward of buying it local in Tyler or taking the trek to Houston to save $100 after gas money and time wasted.

Rather than driving around town looking for a Tyler Texas car we recommend Googling “Tyler Texas Cars” and searching through online inventories of cars for sale in Tyler. You will find this process to save you a lot of time and it will be easy to price compare. You can get on Ebay and try and find similar cars and see how the prices compare as well.

A Tyler car dealer will be much more willing to come down on the price if you can bring in evidence of what prices you have found on similar cars. The negotiation process of purchasing a car in Tyler is much easier when utilizing the Internet. The only other problem you will have is working out financing. The dealer may attempt to recover any lose in price reduction by working your interest rate up.

I recommend in most cases using your bank in obtaining financing when purchasing a car in Tyler. This will help build your relationship up with your bank and offer additional loan opportunities through your bank in the future.
