Iphone 4S To Be Released Today as Market Tanks

October 4th, 2011

Iphone 5 isn’t really coming out today but what is coming out is being called iphone 4S and it is the latest iphone available now. For those of you who think the iPhone is a frenzy about nothing and simply a bunch of Apple fanatics I must tell you this is not completely right. The Iphone offers superior battery life compared to all other phones and you can access the internet while your talking to someone on the phone at the same time. There are several exclusive apps that are only available on the iPhone such as instagram that offer a really phone user experience.I am not an iPhone fanatic but I do appreciate the iPhone benefits compared to Android phones. One last positive not is simply that the iPhone has less security vulnerabilities compared to Android devices that constantly get infected by Malware.

The negatives regarding the iPhone would be the $100 plus a month service charges the crappy ability of itunes when installed on a PC and how expensive these things are…it is like carrying around a bar of gold or something. For a quick summary of the iphone please look at the nifty infographic below. Keep in mind that the iPhone 5 will likely come flying off the shelves making Apple billions even though American Airlines is talking about bankruptcy today, the market has crashed for several days now, and Bernanke gets ready to announce just how long he expects we will have to wait for the economy to recover.

Facebook Places set to Skyrocket past Foursquare

August 19th, 2010

So I have been thinking about this Facebook Places feature on Facebook. This thing is about to get my friends and family doing what I have been doing for months now on Foursquare. What is this I talk about?

I’m talking about a social app that let’s you check in and geo locate your position using GPS or cellular triangulation on the IPhone or Android.

Although many people use these types of services like Gowalla and Foursquare Facebook is playing the all too successful wait and copy game.

We saw the wait and copy happen with TiVo when Dish and Direct TV network and cable TV basically stole the idea but made it much better with what everybody now knows to be DVR.

So Facebook Places vrs Foursquare and Gowalla, who will win?

We all know Facebook Places will skyrocket past Foursquare literally overnight even though Foursquare is huge itself.

An interesting development may be the need for Foursquare to have to become a more broad social network like Facebook to compete.

Also it is rumored that Gowalla partnered with Facebook on their Facebook Places. With no mention of a “powered by Gowalla” anywhere it would seem that Facebook may have eaten Gowalla for lunch and spit out the bones.

I for one am looking forward to more Facebook friends and family geo tagging their favorite places. I will be more likely to go somewhere upon hearing about via a Places status update from a friend.

This my friends is going to be huge. Basically no restaurants and bars in
my small town of Tyler Texas have encouraged people to login to Foursquare and post their review of the food and simply that they ate there.

This will all soon be changing and Facebook will now be much
more about what we have been trying to do with local Tyler business already through our reviews and posts submitted on Facebook. Now however it won’t just be me and a few other people but thousands of Tylerites.

Facebook Places has officially gone live although I can only see it on the IPhone app after deleting the app and re-adding it. Once the IPhone Facebook application was reinstalled I was able to see the “Places” feature.

It is not working here in Tyler Texas yet and has a message that it will soon be rolled out in our area.

Facebook is trying to do it in phases to not overload the system.

I can no longer see the need of Foursquare when this goes live? Am I missing something that Foursquare will do for me to make me want to log in to two different check in apps?

An interesting note is that Facebook Places currently has made their logo a square with the number 4 in it? Wow!!, What a blatant rip off of the Foursquare brand? I thought Facebook was a big enough company to not stoop so low to do something like this.

Facebook Places has basically made something way better than Foursquare, effectively body slamming them on the ground and has then stomped on their face while they have them down with the whole logo rip-off.

VirnetX of Tyler TX wins $106 Million Dollar Lawsuit Against Microsoft

March 17th, 2010
Microsoft Patents

Microsoft

VirnetX has just won a $106 million patent infringement judgement against Microsoft. At issue? Virtual Private Networks.

A jury in the patent holder-friendly district of Tyler, Texas, has found Microsoft Corporation guilty of willful infringement on virtual private network (VPN) patents held by VirnetX, and ordered the company to pay $105.6 million in damages. Because the court found the infringement to be willful, the judge in the case could treble the damage award.

VirnetX brought the suit against Microsoft in 2007, and was originally seeking some $242 million in damages and an injunction against Microsoft’s continued use of the technology. The suit centered around two patents related to virtual private network (VPN) technology, that enables users to set up secure encrypted links between networks that are carried over an unsecure network—like the Internet—and be treated as if they were a member of a local secure-and-trusted network. The patents in question were originally developed by SAIC as part of work the company did for the Central Intelligence Agency; SAIC transferred the patents to VirnetX in 2006 in exchange for a share of royalties VirnetX generated from licensing the technology.

Microsoft is expected to appeal the ruling, and previously said that it believes that its VPN technology was developed independently does not infringe on VirnetX’s patents.

If the penalty holds, it’ll mark the second recent significant infringement loss for Microsoft: last year, jurors awarded some $290 million to i4i for Microsoft Office infringing on patents covering custom XML technology, and Microsoft has been forced to remove the technology from Microsoft Office while appealing the case. (So far, that isn’t going well.)
