Why are flags at half mast on May 15 2011?

I asked this question and looked up what day May 15th is. It is Peace Officers Memorial Day.

Government buildings and businesses fly their flags at half staff to honor fallen police officers in the line of duty.

Remember Tyler police officers today and the sacrifice they make each day.
